Item #: SCP-5443
Object Class: Euclid
Special Containment Procedures: SCP-5443 should be contained in a vertical pool, similar to a pool used for the containment of a nuclear reactor, at Site-19. Said pool must be at a minimum depth of 6m with a 2m diameter to prevent large doses of high-frequency (gamma) ionizing radiation and high-decibel sounds to affect Foundation personnel.
Long exposure to emitted radiation can be fatal to human subjects. To prevent fatal doses of ionizing radiation, all personnel must wear lead jackets and hazardous material suits when in a radius of 10m from the pool.
All personnel must wear ear protection rated for 160 dB or higher. It has been noted that personnel, who do not wear said ear protection, will hear sounds described as an incurable constant train-braking.
SCP-5443 must be under constant surveillance to monitor radiation surges. Surges can last from 30 seconds to 5 minutes and occur 2 times every day. These surges cause SCP-5443 to create SCP-5443-2 which will temporarily disable power. SCP-5443-2 is the byproduct of the charged particles produced passing the speed of light in the medium that it is traveling through, creating a visible cyan-colored luminescence. This luminescence is more properly known as Cherenkov radiation1. In an instance where a surge has commenced, follow the procedures listed:
- Evacuate all personnel in the vicinity of the containment pool
- Activate the containment unit’s emergency generator
- Deactivate master caution
- Reactivate auxiliary power
Description: SCP-5443 is a JBL brand portable Bluetooth speaker (Charge 3 black) found by 2 Foundation staff, Agent Conrad ██████ and Agent Jayla █████████ running a routine exploration and maintenance check in the Chernobyl Exclusion Zone, Ukraine on 7/27/20██. This anomaly was found in an abandoned school in the Exclusion Zone premises. SCP-5443 was found during its radiation surge and was photographed. In this instance, SCP-5443 was producing SCP-5443-2 in a gaseous medium. SCP-5443 can produce SCP-5443-1, a mixture of pulsing frequencies ranging from 2,000 Hz to 5,700 Hz and a consistent volume of 150 decibels, which was heard by the agents at the site where the object was recovered. During a surge, maximum radiation levels reach 8,700 mSv.
SCP-5443 has been known to respond to questions asked by Foundation researchers by producing specific frequencies that correspond to yes or no. SCP-5443 can only be heard by a playback program to lower decibel rate to allow personnel to listen to responses. Researchers have determined that SCP-5443 has the intelligence of an average human 7 years of age. SCP-5443 agrees that it was placed by a being that is imperceivable to humans as it is a being from a separate dimension of which SCP-5443 does not know the details. The object cannot control surges and agrees to the fact that its surges are being controlled by the being.
Test 1: At 2:44 PM on 9/21/20██ a human male subject was placed within close vicinity of the pool during a surge. The subject was exposed to high levels of radiation and sound without any protective equipment to test the dangers of SCP-5443. The subject was exposed for 2 minutes and made no attempt to communicate with SCP-5443. The test caused major hearing damage, brain damage, 1 cancerous tumor in his pancreas, and severe burns to the subject. An interview after the test with the human subject took place. The subject stated that he could not process his situation during the test. The test resulted in the increased regulations and procedures on surges.
