Special Containment Procedures:
SCP-XXXX must be contained in 15x15 clear boxes inside a specially built lunarium in Bio-Research Area 12. Armed members of MTF-Theta-4 (“The Gardeners”) must be on site to supervise the handling of SCP-XXXX. SCP-XXXX must be placed in the clear box, using hazmat suites and gloves that cannot be punctured by hypodermic needles. Only security level 3 class D personnel are permitted to handle SCP-XXXX, with the assistance of heavily protected and experienced members of MTF-Theta-4 in case a plant is dropped, or difficult to place in 15x15 clear box. If a new plant is being dug up, it is important that the whole roots and original soil covering the roots, are placed gently in the box to prevent any sort of complications. MTF-Theta-4 members must inspect any and all plants being placed in boxes before and after replanting to make sure that the stem is intact, and roots untangled. Every box will be placed evenly inside a lunarium on the ground for another replanting.

After the first stage has been completed, Class D personnel will take SCP-XXXX out of the boxes, and gently placed the roots in the box’s corresponding hole on the ground. MTF-Theta-4 staff, will watch carefully. If any Class D personnel becomes inebriated by SCP-XXXX, MTF-Theta-4 is responsible for disposing of them.

If outside temperatures exceed 125 degrees Fahrenheit or stoop below 15 degrees Fahrenheit, the lunarium must be insulated to maintain temperatures of 75 degrees Fahrenheit.

The glass on top of the lunarium must be bullet proof, to keep hail from damaging SCP-XXXX and must be cleaned at all times. If the glass on the lunarium need replacing, then Class D personnel are responsible for it.

SCP-XXXX does not need to be watered or be applied with insecticides.

Description:
SCP-XXXX, or Datura Tenebris is a species of powerful deliriant flowers. Due to its black petals, SCP-XXXX has been dubbed as The New Moon Flower. Unlike normal Datura flowers, SCP-XXXX is a much larger plant. On average, SCP-XXXX is 7 centimeters taller than normal Datura. SCP-XXXX has a pitch black corolla that is perfectly circular, with a trumpet like shape. The branches and leaves also have a very fine and smooth surface of hairs, which on closer inspection, function as hypodermic needles. Surprisingly, the seed pods of SCP-XXXX do not have any sort of spines or other defense mechanisms protecting what’s inside, and are very delicate. The seeds of SCP-XXXX are dark and spherical. Reportedly very sweet to taste.

SCP-XXXX is a vespertine flower. During the day, the flower will close a droop towards the ground. In the evening, flower will begin to slowly rise towards the sky. At night, the flower of SCP-XXXX will face the sky, blooming. If it happens to be a moonless night, the flower will fully open, and its anthers and stigma will be revealed. The reproductive parts of the flower are small and white.. SCP-XXXX’s effects are at its strongest during this time when it is ingested during the new moon. After pollination, SCP-XXXX will keep its corolla. The reason why it pollenates during this lunar period is currently unknown. SCP-XXXX will never wilt, unless the stem is severed.

Datura Tenebris, much like other plants of its genus contain volatile psychoactive properties. The main compounds within Datura are: atropine, hyoscamine, and scopolamine. These chemicals can cause very intense intoxication, and nightmarish delirium. However, Datura Tenebris will physically manifest one’s delirium. This has caused SCP-XXXX to be considered incredibly dangerous.

SCP-XXXX’s effects are widely unexplored due to its immense potential to wreak havoc on reality, and kill its user. According to the limited information we learned upon retrieving SCP-XXXX, the effects are said to last six days, and most potent under the new moon. The foundation conducted s tests with the plant but the subject died before the second day.

Upon taking a dose of SCP-XXXX, a subject felt the onset in approximately 25 minutes. From what information we have gathered, the delirium doesn’t manifest until after the peak. The come up lasts between 1-2 hours. The subjects described the come up as an “insufferable discomfort” or as a “crippling sickness. After the come up, changes in perception and body would occur. At this point, SCP-XXXX mimics the effects of the Datura Stramonium, Inoxia, and Wrightii strains. For an example, the subject reported being incredibly thirsty but needing to urinate urgently. The subject also reported having cigarettes that would disappear when dropped. Both are very common stories with Datura in general. At the time of the reports, distortions in reality would occur thirty minutes later. Camera footage captured small ripples that would move around the area of the subject. Ripples in reality. Light would swirl and fold in the air. This only lasted ten minutes on all footages though.

When a person reaches the peak of a dosage from SCP-XXXX, the area around them will twist. It can span for miles, or be confined in one space, with the person under its influence acting as the epicenter for activity. Whatever a user sees will be manifested into reality around them. Most commonly manifested anomalies are hallucinations of entities, places, people, events, and sound. All of them being mostly grotesque and frightening. Any entity that is manifested can in fact interact with objects and other people. Events manifested, can also effect objects and other people as well. During the test with two subjects, footage of the test show demonic entities and even people the subject has known are knows were manifested. The cameras also show the subjects with cigarettes that would disappear when they dropped them.

As SCP-XXXX’s effects escalate, more manifestations occur until the area around the user became completely unrecognizable and the subjects themselves had manifested changes to themselves as well. The rooms we had the subjects had turned into caves, forests, homes, etc. At the peak of the experience, the subjects would find themselves in very surreal surroundings. This would seldom last despite the effects lasting up to six days. Most people will die on the first day

It is unknown if anybody has ever survived a full Datura Tenebris experience.

Addendum:
Discovery: SCP-XXXX or New Moon Flower was retrieved from The New Moon Grove. A cave in Iraq. The SCP Foundation was alerted of catastrophic events happening in a nearby town. The events came to an abrupt end, when a young girl from this town, had dropped dead in the middle of it all. Local governments told the town that they had apprehended a terrorist that had poisoned the water with hallucinogens. SCP Foundation agents were dispatched to the location, promptly after the town had settled. The girl’s autopsy detailed everything in her body, including what was in her bloodstream. What showed up were tropane alkaloids.

When undercover agents went to go visit the girl’s family, they stated that she leaves home often to visit a forest to the north. They also said that she had brought a lot of food with her when she came back that day. Fruits, herbs, bugs…etc. Apparently the girl went out to forage often. When asked what sort of food it was, the family had shown the agents. They looked like some sort of seeds. They were in a cloth sack that had belonged to the girl.

The agents then confiscated them, and sent them to Bio-Research Site 103 for testing. The results concluded that it was a plant in the nightshade family. After more testing, it was discovered to be a Datura, but the genus was new. There was not a single match between already existing Datura plants. Faculty of Bio-Research Site 103 had requested more information regarding the location of this plant, and had been told that it was from a forest north from [REDACTED] in Iraq. They then notified MTF-Theta-4, The Gardeners, of the situation. The Mobile Task Force then traveled to [REDACTED] and entered the forest at the north. They were there for two weeks before finding the source. A MTF-Theta-4 agent was tasked with scouting the area along with six other members. He came back to the rest of the task force and reported a large, grassy cave where light pierced through a large gash in the cave. He said it was full of black flowers.

Leading the group back to the cave, they began to set up base in front of the opening. The task force set up camps and small testing facilities near the entrance, and spent three months studying. What they did during the first week there, was verify that the seeds had come from this plant. Results came up positive. During the first week, they explored the cave. It was an ancient place. The ceiling had many holes and cracks. This allowed light from the sun to enter the cave. As they explored a few days later, MTF-Theta-4 had discovered a shrine at the very end of the broken cave. This is where all the flowers were the most abundant. Above the shrine, were holes in the cave ceiling, however this holes were man made. The placement and shapes of these holes were too deliberate and perfectly shaped to be natural. How they stayed in pristine condition is not known.

The holes above are moon cycles. Two full moons on each side, and in the middle. Each hole was designed to let the let of the moon enter the cave in any phase. The shrine also had a statue of a woman, and an enormous mural painted on the wall behind it. The mural outdated everything in the country, and written in glyphs.

The Mobile Task Force dedicated the second week studying the shrine with a little help from the foundation. Soon, they were able to decipher it. Through this, they learned that what was surrounding them was called New Moon Flowers and the effects of it would last six days. They also realized, from reading this text on the wall, which the middle phase above the shrine, was for the new moon. However, the function of the carved moon phases, remained unknown. The last week was spent on collecting samples, and transferring them to the SCP Foundation.]

Ashley Kalm [Subject? How are you feeling?]
Subject [I saw my father. He just read “Where The Wild Things Are” to me. My father died six years ago. It felt so real though.]
Ashley Kalm [I’m so sorry, Subject.]
Subject [You put me in here! You do not get to apologise! Ugh, I gotta piss.]
<T+ 4:00>
Ashley Kalm [(Looking at the camera feed, she sees multiple twists and distortions in the room. She turns to get her recorder, but looked back at the screen when she heard screaming.)]
<There was an oak tree in the room now, and Ashley saw it too. The ends of the tree’s branches, where fruit would grow, started to engorge. She looked closer at the screen, as the subject desperately moved away. There were crows just on the floor next to the tree. Ashley watched, as dead crows grew and fell from the branches of the tree.>
Ashley Kalm [We have… a tree, with crows falling out of it…]
Subject [Wait, you see this shit too?! This is actually happening?]
Ashley Kalm [(Muting her microphone) What the fuck?]
**<Ashley silently watched the screen, and quickly writing down on a clip board. Constantly looking up to get every detail.

Ashley’s Report

[MTF-Theta-4 had assisted me in this experiment. They helped me create tea out of a SCP-XXXX plant. We used the petals of the New Moon, and even crushed up some leaves. Afterwards, we set up the testing chamber. We provided a chair, table, and toilet for the subject. I took my position on the other side of the camera, and had the subject brought into the room. He drank the tea.
After 25 minutes, the subject had complaints of dry mouth and needing to urinate. He reported back that nothing came out. This is actually quite common with normal Datura plants. He even experienced the phantom cigarette effect. This is where SCP-XXXX starts taking effect of the subject. To me, he was basically just twiddling his fingers. When I asked him what he was doing, he told me he was rolling a cannabis cigarette. It was a strange perspective to see someone perfectly pantomime rolling a cigarette, then pantomime smoking it. According to him, it was real. Even go so far to say, he felt the paper bend in his finger, and he could taste it when he was smoking. This still common among all Datura plants. More importantly, he was hallucinating. Usually, when people consume psychoactive drugs, they can still tell that they’re seeing things which do not exist. Common hallucinogens such as psilocybin and lysergic acid diethylamide, don’t send users into such a state.

Datura, isn’t a hallucinogen though. It’s a deliriant. Having hallucinations in all five senses makes them inseparable from reality. That’s just how Datura works. Not Datura Tenebris, however. Looking at the subject’s file, he had a phobia of crows. So during SCP-XXXX’s peak period, crows manifested. Specifically, a tree growing dead crows instead of fruit, manifested. The tree itself, looked like a crow too. It was a very mangled and twisted oak tree. The bark was black, but the leaves were those of an oak. The subject, began to panic. Ironically, not panicking is the first rule of taking mind altering compounds, precisely because it’s all the head. Well, it usually is anyway. After the crow incident, the Subject hid in a corner, shaking and crying. It all fell apart at that moment. What happened to him next, is only short of ineffable.

Reality was twisting a distorting all around the test chamber. Distorting so much, which the space actually expanded to enormous scale. He was in a house that would not stop twisting. The room he is now, was much bigger than originally, but I was still connected to it somehow. By the time the new room had coalesced, it was like a mixed up rubix cube of furniture. There was a couch on the ceiling, a bed smashed into a corner, and a sink on the ceiling. There was some sort of nest on the floor. The subject was sitting in the middle of the wall, staring at the object onto the floor. The nest expanded and opened. The bottom of the nest began to crumble away into nothing. There was a bottomless hole in the floor now, and the nest around began to decay rapidly. The subject was muttering frightfully to himself at this point.

The pit in the middle of the floor, began to hiss. This viscus orange liquid began to rise out of the hole and over flowed onto the nest. The room began to rapidly decay. It was a fungal forest now. I couldn’t believe I was still seeing any of this because there were no walls or ceiling. The objects around the subject, had turned into dirt and massive mushrooms dominated the land and began snowing spores. The subject, covered his mouth at this nest, eyes bloodshot. The liquid continued to flow out onto the ground but this time, something else was coming out too.

It looked like a snake, yet, it wasn’t. This long figure of myelin and toxin spilled out of the nest like smoke, and looked at the subject. It had a really long, sharp and pointed nose, with eyes on the bottom of its jaw. It was floating in the air like a humming bird though. The subject was on the brink of a psychotic break. Head twitching, speaking gibberish, but he was also frozen. The entity revealed pores all long its body. Then…human tongues, horrifically elongated drooped out. The subject made no resistance when the entity began coiling itself around him and sliding its tongues all over him. Contact from the tongues caused his flesh to rot. Then I noticed the subject’s eyes. I suppose he accepted what was happening, considering he couldn’t do anything about this. The entity had him tightly constricted. But everything began to shift again. The fungal forest had churned into a lake of fire. A lake of merciless blue fire, and people screaming in it. Impaled by giant swords, spears, and arrows. He was standing on a cliff above it. He said something.

“Looking into the face of punishment. Having squandered everything. I now fall into the azure inferno, and now I drink fire, forever.”

Then jumped off.

As soon as his flesh made contact with the blue flame, he began to blaze while the impaled fed on him. Before I could blink, the room was back. Nothing was left. The only thing that remained was the toilet, but it had imploded.

Conclusion: SCP-XXXX is a mind and reality altering drug. Delirium, tangible and corporeal. After the experiment had ended. I alerted The Gardeners and sent them the footage. Soon, other agents entered the room to inspect, and take measurements of anomalous energies. Results showed that the test chamber was perfectly normal, despite its appearance. SCP-XXXX is boundless and volatile. Capable of turning a room into a house, a forest, and then a hellscape.
