Item #: SCP-XXXX
Object Class: Safe
Special Containment Procedures: The castle ruins that make up SCP-XXXX and its contents were acquired by the foundation under the cover story of an ancestor of the original owner of the castle wishing to purchase their ancestral home.
The entire site consists of a 1.7km2 area around the castle, and a perimeter of 2.5 metre tall security fencing is to be maintained around this area, with a public entrance and ticket booth at the north end of the site.
The castle and grounds, which is publicly maintained as Yigley Castle, is open to the public every Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday. While open, a number of low-level foundation personnel dressed in medieval clothing are to be present within the site, who are tasked with monitoring the site for anomalous activity and also running the front company of Yigley Castle, through things such as market stalls, traditional crafts and battle re-enactments. Non-SCP personnel are permitted to visit and explore a small portion of the castle, consisting of the courtyard, gatehouse and forge. Any attempts by non-SCP personnel to enter off limits areas of the castle should be stopped, and the individual should be escorted back to the nearest permitted area.
SCP-XXXX-1, which is the crown worn by the king, is not to be removed from the kings head unless at the orders of the head researcher assigned to this site, which is currently researcher Harkstead. However, due to the effects of SCP-XXXX-1 when not being worn, SCP-XXXX-2's desire to wear the crown at all times, and a general lack of useful or productive tests that have been proposed to perform on the crown, it is extremely unlikely that such a request will be made.
SCP-XXXX-2, often referred to as the "King", is to be contained within an enlarged humanoid containment cell, with three rooms; a throneroom, a bedroom and a feast hall. All rooms are to be decorated in a medieval fashion. Once a month, SCP-XXXX-2 is permitted to make a public appearance for no longer than 2 hours, during which he will deliver a speech to the crowd and then meet and talk with his "subjects", both civilians and foundation personnel. Any deviations from this usual schedule should be monitored and if these deviations present a threat to containment or civilian safety, such as SCP-XXXX-2 attempting to leave the site, SCP-XXXX-2 should be taken back to their containment cell under the guise of reports of an assassin sent by a rival kingdom being spotted in the crowd.
Once a month, usually within a week after SCP-XXXX-2 has made their public appearance, demolition work is carried out on SCP-XXXX to maintain a satisfactory state of disrepair, which is between 50 to 60% destroyed. The anomalous repair of the castle is slow, and carrying out demolition monthly means that the small amount of new material can be easily destroyed with siege equipment like trebuchets and ballistae, rarely requiring removal of material by hand.
Description: SCP-XXXX is a ruined castle located in ██████ █████, England. Superficially, the structure appears consistent with other 15th century castle ruins for the area, but closer inspection of the architecture reveals a number of features and design elements that are unlike any other castle in existence. The shape of the outer wall is not a uniform polygon, instead having a mixture of both curves and sharp angles. Secondly, much of the stonework is formed from tall, rod-like pieces of basalt-like stone as oppose to the traditional castle brick. In areas where the walls are complete enough to see them, the arrow slits are horizontal instead of vertical.
Attempts to carbon date the stone have produced inconsistent and unreliable results; ranging from 130 to 1.27 million years old. Genetic and molecular analysis of pieces of timber present in SCP-XXXX show no relation to any known species of tree, though there are some genetic similarities with orchids in the genus Vanilla.
SCP-XXXX has two distinct anomalous properties. The first is that when there is an instance of SCP-XXXX-2 present in the castle, it will gradually repair itself over time. Close observation of this phenomenon has shown that the structure appears to "grow" back into it's repaired state by slowly accumulating new matter, though how this is achieved and where the castle gets the material for this growth is currently unknown.
The second anomalous property of SCP-XXXX is its effect on post renaissance technology, and also the way in which it is affected by such technology. Any object which would not have been present in England earlier than the 15th century ceases to function entirely. This area of effect has also been observed to block radiation and emissions caused by modern technology, including lasers, radio waves and even fumes from the combustion of refined fossil fuels.
SCP-XXXX-1 is a golden crown which features intricate detailing and iconography depicting some kind of civil war. Closer examination of the crown has shown that the gold is incredibly pure, and thus does not tarnish. When SCP-XXXX-1 is not worn by a host, it is considered to be in its active state. In this state, the crown releases powerful psychic signals that affect any male humans over the age of 16. While under the crowns influence, affected individuals will move towards the crown and attempt to wear it. Should multiple influenced individuals attempt to take the crown for themselves, they will become aggressive and attempt to subdue one another until a final victor can claim the crown for himself. Once worn, SCP-XXXX-1 enters it's dormant state, and ceases to release any major psychic signals, and a new instance of SCP-XXXX-2, or "king" is created.
SCP-XXXX-2 is the designation given to the current host of SCP-XXXX-1, who is usually referred to as the "King" of Yigley Castle. DNA analysis has shown that the current instance of SCP-XXXX-2 is an exact match for ███ ███████, an unresolved missing persons case from 19██. In the interest of containment, this discovery has been withheld from the relevant authorities.
