The Symphony Of The Unknown

General Description: This SCP is a standard grand piano which excretes a transparent mucus textured substance (XXXX-2) from its keys. The substance seems to be in infinite supply, as no matter how much is removed, more always emerges from the keys. Attempts to remove individual keys have successfully carried out, however, the keys don't stop secreting the substance once removed, making the keys the true anomaly.

XXXX-2 isn't harmful on its own and evaporates within a few seconds of being removed from the keys or not being in contact with human skin. Studies of XXXX-2 are often hindered by this, however, it was discovered that it could remain on lab-grown skin without evaporating. This was a big step forward and researchers finally could get to work on finding out what the substance really was.

It turns out that the substance was actually comprised of a type of mutated staphylococcus bacteria.1

Effects On Humans: Once directly exposed to human skin, XXXX-2 will begin to spread, until it covers a surface area of roughly 3cm2. Once this has occurred, XXXX-2 will turn a pale blue colour and begin to seep through the skin of the human.

This will happen over the course of 24 hours, and the human will feel a mild itching sensation on the affected area. Making direct contact with any area contaminated with XXXX-2 will result in it spreading to the area in which contact was made.

When XXXX-2 has fully permeated the skin, the now 'infected' human will develop a severe case of anaemia over an 8 hour period. It has been discovered that XXXX-2 replaces or 'consumes' the haemoglobin in red blood cells. The lack of oxygen passing through the infected's bloodstream will eventually cause them to suffocate.

After initial contact with XXXX-2, the infected will experience death within an average of 36 hours.

The Aftermath: XXXX-2 can exist within a dead human's body for an indefinite amount of time. This shows that XXXX-2 does not require human blood to sustain itself.2
