Special Containment Procedures: SCP-5978 is to remain inside a double wall cylinder with a diameter of 60 cm and a height of 40 cm and a spacing between walls of 20 cm made with boron nitride nanocomposite or any other non-carbon based materials able to withstand at least 85 GPa and stable up to 1600 Kelvin, this containment unit must have access to a geothermal well for security reasons.
In case of any breach in the containment unit, a negative air pressure is to be kept at all times to avoid further damage to the unit, if maintaining the negative pressure is not possible, due to damage on the second wall of the unit or electrical outage, the geothermal well is to be opened and the facility is to be closed and the immediate area evacuated. Once negative pressure is restored the well is to be closed and repairs done during the twenty-four (24)-hour hibernation state of SCP-5978.
In case of a facility breach, SCP-5987 is to be tracked and re-captured by MTF Beta-7 using a negative pressure gun as the preferred capture method.
No personnel below Level 4 security clearance is allowed to interact with SCP-5978 and interaction is to be monitored by the Site Director and a Containment Specialist. Personnel who enter SCP-5978's containment area must first wear a positive pressure hazmat suit and proceed to apply an Alkaline Powder for removing carbon from the suit.
Following contact, all personnel involved will be escorted at least 5 km from SCP-5978 to undergo a seventy-two (72)-hour quarantine and psychological evaluation, in case of exposure to SCP-5978 all exposed personnel must undergo quarantine of four (4)-days, if deemed fit for return to duty by psych staff, rank and security clearance may be restored when quarantine expires.
Description: SCP-5978 is a gaseous sentient entity composed of various noble gases and other crystalline solids.
Psychological and physical examination shows SCP-5978 to be extremely aggressive to any carbon-life forms that are not sentient, according to interviews. It appears to be extremely intelligent, and was observed to engage in complex communication. (See Addendum 5978-A)
SCP-5978's biology has been the subject of extensive study. Significant elements have been identified in different proportions, analysis shows that SCP-5978 is able to control the proportion of the different elements in the entity composition and regulate internal pressure. To date, no convincing analysis has been put forward which satisfactorily explains SCP-5978 body, geometry and composition.
SCP-5978 nutrition is based of different crystalline solids, the entity shows a preference for diamond and quartz. After a digestion period of two (2)-hours SCP-5978 will excrete an unknown material classified as SCP-5978-1, according to SCP-5978 it is the result of the digestion process and the composition of SCP-5978-1 is a mixture of citonynocal and klonitorium in equal proportions, classified accordingly as SCP-5978-1-A and SCP-5978-1-B.
Composition of SCP-5978-1-A and SCP-5978-1-B is unknown, further research and interview with SCP-5978 is required.
Discovery: SCP-5978 was discovered in Ecuador (-2.84,-80.17) on 15/02/2020. Air traffic control reported an unusual appearance in radar, emergency teams where dispatched and security officers reported sounds comparable to television static and unintelligible words, according to police officer Martínez José SCP-5978 was emanating blue lighting that turned plants to crystal, in-site research revealed that all the statements given by the police officer Martínez José where true.
After twelve (12) police officers where K.I.A., lieutenant Gerardo Manuel ordered an evacuation and coastal guard closed access to the island, up to that point communications where intercepted by Agent Green and a capture team dispatched on site. (See Addendum 5978-A)
