Item #: SCP-4356
Object Class: Safe
Special Containment Procedures: SCP-4356 must be kept in a 2x2x2.5 meter room at Site-38. A 4-legged table is necessary to support SCP-4356. Table must be level with no other items on it. SCP-4356’s containment space must not contain any security cameras, windows, one way mirrors, or other sorts of surveillance equipment allowing prolonged viewing of SCP-4356. As SCP-4356 poses no threat to a containment breach, no constant surveillance of SCP-4356 is required as signed by Dr. ███. Foundation personnel must enter SCP-4356’s containment to level check the surface that SCP-4356 rests on per daily basis. Personnel attempting to communicate with SCP-4356 must undergo a psychological test before and after entering SCP-4356’s containment, however, no documented changes in psychological health from researchers have occurred. Only personnel with Level 2 clearance or higher may communicate with SCP-4356, and must be accompanied by a staff member of equal or greater clearance.

Description: SCP-4356 is a 33 centimeter wide by 20 centimeter tall sketchbook. Most of the corners of SCP-4356's pages are burnt, with traces of ash from an unknown location. Lab studies overseen by Dr. ███ reveal ash left on SCP-4356’s pages may originally have been from materials used to manufacture suburban homes, including but not limited to: wood, drywall, insulation, and [DATA EXPUNGED].

SCP-4356 can be found closed, opened to a blank page, or opened to a page containing SCP-4356-1 (See Addendum-4356-1). Any attempt to flip through SCP-4356’s pages or move SCP-4356 will cause SCP-4356 to abruptly shut until the personnel who is responsible of contact is removed from the immediate area. Said event causes no harm to personnel.

SCP-4356 is believed to be sentient, yet docile, and is notably able to understand when it is being addressed and what is being asked of it. SCP-4356 communicates to Foundation Personnel through well-composed sketches, comprised of a graphite compound most commonly found in No.2 pencils. SCP-4356 will only produce sketches while it is not being directly viewed. While SCP-4356 is not viewed, faint sounds can be heard coming from SCP-4356, resembling a pencil writing on paper. If SCP-4356 is viewed during this process, it will appear shut, and the sound will stop until the personnel is removed from SCP-4356’s containment.

SCP-4356 often depicts events that have not yet happened, with a timestamp in the upper right corner of the illustration indicating when said event will take place. These illustrations are often made to forewarn researchers, and SCP-4356 portrays no bad intent for the Foundation. SCP-4356 has often acknowledged the existence of other SCPs, illustrating SCPs on command with accuracy, regardless of never having been in the presence of other SCPs. SCP-4356 is also aware of researchers, doctors, and foundation personnel, often drawing those who have last visited SCP-4356, or those who have not yet entered the room, but will according to the timestamp.

SCP-4356 is cooperative and obedient, however easily distracted. While drawing SCP-4356 will frequently forget what it was prompted to illustrate, and instead produce variant depictions of SCP-4356-1. If asked about the same prompt again, SCP-4356 will attempt to draw the prompt again, this time finishing the correct composition accurately.

Addendum (SCP-4356-1): SCP-4356-1 is an illustration made by SCP-4356 that depicts a one story ranch-style house with a farm-field in the background. The house appears to be a pastel yellow color, with 2 windows on either side of the front door, and 3 windows on the sides of the “L” shaped house. SCP-4356-1 can be illustrated by SCP-4356 in multiple different ways, often having small details changed, such as the size of different trees in the background, the amount of hay-bales stacked next to the house, or the time of day, however, the timestamp always reads “August 15th, [DATA REDACTED]”.

SCP-4356 has once illustrated SCP-4356-1 with flames engulfing the house, and the timestamp reading “THE END”. This was shown to researchers during interview 4356-1, (carried out by Research Team ████, on [DATA EXPUNGED]), which was then officially titled SCP-4356-1-A. After the appearance of SCP-4356-1-A, researchers have concluded the house depicted belonged to the [DATA REDACTED] Family, which was burned down in a fire on April 16th, [DATA REDACTED], and killed all inhabitants of the house. The house depicted is believed to be where SCP-4356 originated, however, it is not where the foundation recovered SCP-4356. There has only been one occurrence of SCP-4356-1-A since SCP-4356’s inception at the foundation.
