Special Containment Procedures: SCP-XXXX is to be stored in a standard Anomalous Object Locker at Site-56. Access to SCP-XXXX is to be denied except in the case of approved testing. SCP-XXXX is to be placed in a foam-lined case within the locker to prevent damage to its mirror surface. If transportation is necessary, SCP-XXXX is to be transported by 2 (two) personnel at all times, with no exception. If research is to be performed, it will be tested in a standard Anomalous Object Testing Chamber, and will be kept in its case until the test is to begin. When testing, SCP-XXXX should be leaned backwards against a vertical surface and supported at its base to prevent the object from falling over and becoming damaged.
Description: SCP-XXXX is a mirror, approximately 60 cm tall by 35 cm wide, and 2.5 cm thick. It has a white plastic bezel, covering 2 cm of the edge of the mirror, as well as the sides and back.
Anything reflected by the mirror is not reflected, but copied, in the sense that direction is preserved when reflecting. While a normal mirror will show a left hand when a right hand is reflected, SCP-XXXX will show a right hand when a right hand is reflected.
//Revision as of 7/7/20Occasionally, SCP-XXXX's reflection will not correspond to reality. These incidences are known as Discrepancy Events. During Discrepancy Events, reflected figures may act differently to their real-world counterpart, and may be seen to speak. Discrepancy Events can also manifest as different decorations in the reflected room, figures appearing who have no counterpart in real life, and different rooms entirely being reflected in the mirror.
Addendum: Experiment Log
Note: This is a short observational log intended to illustrate the effects of SCP-XXXX. This test was simultaneously recorded. The video file can be accessed by request at the Site-56 Records Office.
Subject: D-XXXX, who will be performing actions in front of the mirror, and Dr. Wynn, who will be issuing instructions.
Instruction: D-XXXX was instructed to raise their right hand.
Result: The reflection of D-XXXX raises its right hand. D-XXXX expresses surprise.
Instruction: D-XXXX was instructed to hold up a sign with their left hand. The sign reads "Lorem ipsum".
Result: The reflection of D-XXXX holds up the same sign with its left hand. The text is unreflected.
[Redacted for brevity]
Instruction: D-XXXX was instructed to face the exit of the chamber and look over their right shoulder.
Result: The reflection of D-XXXX faces the exit of the chamber and looks over its right shoulder. It appears to speak, but no sound is heard. D-XXXX is frightened. The test is concluded.
Closing Statement: It appears that the reflections on the other side of the mirror may not be just be "weird reflections" as we initially thought. More testing is advised. - Dr. Wynn
Addendum: Incident Report XXXX-02
Prior to a routine test, SCP-XXXX was mounted in a standard Anomalous Object Testing Chamber. Reflected in the mirror was Dr. Wynn, who was not present in the testing chamber, standing next to the room's exit door. The test continued normally, with the Dr. Wynn reflected in the mirror visibly issuing commands.
Addendum: Memorandum
Since testing on SCP-XXXX has commenced, it has come to my attention that certain incidents are becoming more and more common over time. I have decided to classify these incidents as Discrepancy Events - events during which what is reflected in SCP-XXXX does not correspond to what is occurring in reality.
Since our first test, Discrepancy Events have been occurring with increasing regularity. We've had reflections waving, speaking, appearing where they should not, and not appearing where they should. We've had signs posted on the reflected wall. We've seen other rooms reflected, even ones that aren't part of Site-56. Considering this development, I've come to two conclusions.
Firstly, we must suspend testing. If Discrepancy Events have been occurring more frequently as testing has continued, then testing must stop. We don't know what we're doing if we continue to interact with this object.
Secondly, I believe that this object is letting us see into a parallel universe. As mentioned, the reflections on the other side of the mirror have begun speaking and waving. During our tests with D-XXXX, his reflection appeared to say "We see you." I believe that the reflections are attempting to show us their sapience
On the other hand, this may simply be an effect of the anomaly. We cannot interact directly with the other side of the mirror, and I don't think it would be in the Foundation's best interest to continue testing.
For now, I would like to return the object to its locker and keep it there, and apply for it to be transferred to Storage Site-64.
- Dr. Wynn
I think you're letting your imagination get the better of you, Dr. Wynn. We have no reason to believe that the perceived independence and sapience of the reflections is not part of the anomaly.
We have also considered your request for the suspension of testing. It is currently under review. As much as we understand your position on the Discrepancy Events, we would like to ascertain whether or not your "dimensional window hypothesis" is correct.
