Keep off my Lawn!

Item#: SCP-XXXX

Object Class: Euclid

Special Containment Procedures: The 5x5 meter section of lawn designated as SCP-XXXX is to be kept at Site-103 contained within a 10x10 meter climate controlled chamber with fitted plexiglass paneling measuring 2 meters in height on all sides of the subject. Access to the subject is to be granted for testing via a locked door sealed shut via electromagnets. SCP-XXXX is to be watered using the chamber’s inbuilt sprinkler system once a day for approximately 20 minutes and is to be supplied with sunlight via two large sun lamps placed on opposite sides of the chamber, these lights are to remain active throughout the hours of 6:00 am and 6:00 pm. On a monthly basis fertilizer is to be added to SCP-XXXX via inbuilt dispensers located on the chamber’s ceiling. Access to SCP-XXXX is strictly prohibited unless authorization is granted.

Description: SCP-XXXX is a small square plot of lawn measuring 5x5 meters with a soil depth of 1 meter. Although the subject requires sunlight, nutrients and water like any other section of lawn it strangely does not appear to grow and has maintained an average blade length of 4 centimetres since its discovery. Located roughly in the centre of the area of lawn is a small wooden sign approximately 60 centimetres in height that reads “Keep off my lawn!” which has been inscribed onto the sign in white paint.

When left alone SCP-XXXX will behave just like a regular section of lawn, the subject’s anomalous properties will only manifest themselves when a human attempts to walk across the lawn or make any other physically contact with the lawn from the above. As soon as a human makes contact with the surface of SCP-XXXX they will proceed to pass straight through the subject as if the subject had no physical mass at all, individuals who do fall completely through SCP-XXXX simply dematerialise being complete engulfed by the lawn and seemingly cease to exist. However non-human animals are able to walk across the subject with no difficulty as if it were a regular area of lawn. Additionally, it should be noted that the subject is tangible to human touch when making contact from any other angle rather than directly above thus making soil analysis possible.

SCP-XXXX was discovered in 2005 in the front yard of a dilapidated house when reports of several pedestrians simply “falling into the ground” surfaced. Foundation field agents were dispatched to investigate and upon locating the section of lawn Agent ███████ attempted to walk across the lawn when he subsequently fell straight through it. The subject’s anomalous properties were noted and the subject was transported to Site-103 for further testing. Currently the cause for the anomalous properties towards humans is of yet unknown and testing concerning the subject has ceased with no plans to continue.
