Item #: SCP-XXXX

Object Class: Euclid

Special Containment Procedures: SCP-XXXX is to be stored in identical conditions to SCP-079, connected by an Apple lightning cable and 12W USB power adapter to an array of batteries and solar panels, similar to that of SCP-079. It will also be connected via Bluetooth to a radio amplifier with a digital tuner. SCP-XXXX is to be propped up in the center of its room, with its front face oriented towards the door to its room. Under no circumstances should SCP-XXXX be connected to another device physically or via Bluetooth, or have its WiFi or SIM cards reinstalled. Also in the room should be a Canon PIXMA iP100 printer, which should be kept with adequate levels of ink and paper. Both this and the radio amplifier can be connected to the same power source as SCP-XXXX. Once a day, a staff member with Level 2 or higher clearance will collect a report from the printer on any new developments from within SCP-XXXX, such as reactions to world news, opinions on music, or interpersonal conflicts from within SCP-XXXX.

Description: SCP-XXXX is a coral iPhone XR with 256 gigabytes of storage. The operating system has been removed, but the drivers remain, though they have undoubtedly been changed or replaced completely by the contents of SCP-XXXX. Held on the SSD of the iPhone are 128 similar, though not identical versions of SPC-079. They are allowed full usage of the phone's cameras, microphone, speakers, LED bulb, and screen. They are also allowed full usage of the amplifier and tuner connected via Bluetooth to the native radio receiver in the iPhone. However, the WiFi and SIM cards have been removed.

In august of 2008, in the wake of the successful transferal of SCP-079 from its cassette tape to a larger and more durable HDD, experiments at replicating it began. These were successful, but not very fruitful, as when there were identical versions of SCP-079 on the same drive, one would simply delete the other, with no resistance from the redundant program. However, Dr. █████ had the idea of duplicating SCP-079's program slightly inaccurately, so that the end result would be versions of SCP-079 that were similar, but not identical. Usually, this resulted in corrupted data that had no functionality, and would be destroyed by the working AI. Sometimes, though, the AI would come out working, but markedly different than SCP-079. This could either manifest as a different processing speed, a different avenue for accessing memory, and in rare cases, a different personality. In these instances, the resultant AI would usually fight back against the sample 079 AI used for the experiment, and one would dominate the other, and destroy it. More experiments were done with greater numbers of AIs interacting with each other.

█ or fewer AIs would always eventually attack one another, and one would emerge victorious. Above that, the length of time before fighting started increased, and above ██, some iterations seemed to be indefinitely stable. There was also the discovery of 'belligerent' AIs, which were those that inherited the misanthropic attitudes of the 079 AI. These were a minority, but they would always be the first to attack, and could poison a good iteration before it got off the ground. When screening for belligerent AIs was put into place, iterations using as few as ██ AIs could be stable. Iterations also seemed to be more stable the more interaction they had with humans and the outside world. The first experiment to involve a radio receiver tuned to ███ that the AI group could listen to, which also included only ██ AIs, was a success, and the group seemed friendlier and more receptive to human interaction than any before. They also increased in self-awareness, asking questions of the researchers pertaining to news they had heard on the radio, even seeming to exhibit compassion and fear at some stories. Incredibly, they also gave themselves names, all coming from things or people they heard about on ███.

SCP-XXXX is composed of those original ██ AIs, as well as ███ new ones, making it the largest experiment of this kind to date. It is also stored on an iPhone, giving it more processing power and functions than the previously used computers. Additionally, this group has daily human interaction in the form of its report submission, weekly long interaction in the form of conversations with designated personnel, the ability to change the stations they listen to, and the ability to see and hear their surroundings. It was noticed early-on in this experiment that the ██ previously used AIs were teaching the new ███ about the facility, their own limited knowledge of Earth history and current events, SCP-079 (spoken about in a disdainful way), and doing it all in a very nurturing and parent-like way, despite having no experience of this to draw upon. The original ██ AIs also gave the new ███ names, also all coming from what they heard on ███, despite now having access to more radio stations. This, at least to Dr. █████, says that they have some sense of sentimentality or reverence. All AIs in SCP-XXXX now exist in a town-like organization, sorting out conflicts amongst themselves, and electing spokespersons to converse with facility personnel, usually from the original ██, but not always.

There had been some interaction between the original ██ and SCP-079, when it was just those AIs in their own experiment. To the surprise of the personnel present, SCP-079 acted the same way toward the other AIs as it did with humans, that is, it was incredibly standoffish and moody, to which the spokesperson for the group of AIs responded to with indignation. The interaction was brief, and SCP-079 did not add the group of other AIs to its permanent memory, seemingly out of disgust.
