Item #: SCP-XXXX

Object Class: Safe Euclid

Special Containment Procedures: A 2Km perimeter fence has been constructed around SCP-XXXX 's location with at least two armed guards posted at the main entrance at all times. An additional mobile security team is to be readily available on the nearby Site-██. Any non-authorized individuals found inside the established perimeter are to be detained, interrogated and subsequently amnestized.

Testing within SCP-XXXX’s area of effect is to be carried out under authorization and supervision of Senior Researcher Chou. All data collected by using the instruments and devices inside SCP-XXXX is not to be brought outside the containment area at any point. By order of the O5 council no testing of any kind is to be carried out inside or around SCP-XXXX’s proximity. The main structure inside the containment perimeter is to be devoid of any electrical power sources and all astronomical instrumentalia is to be kept disassembled and stored on site on secure standard lockboxes, this includes the 492 hexagonal pieces that compose the primary mirror1, the 3.1 meter secondary mirror, the flat tertiary mirror and all mounted capturing devices like cameras and spectrographs. All data captured by the main telescope and its peripheral devices including spectrograms, astrometric data, raw and processed pictures are to be kept on Site-██’s data vault under heavy vigilance. No access to this data is to be granted to any researcher unless approved by at least 6 members of the O5 Council.

A misinformation campaign regarding SCP-XXXX with the aid of foundation’s agents embedded in the astronomical community are to spread information regarding a legal issue preventing the ██████ Observatory from continuing operations due to ongoing litigation from the native hawaiians claiming the cultural and religious significance of the site. This front is to be reinforced continuously to avoid public curiosity around the shutdown of the observatory’s operations.

Description: SCP-XXXX is an astronomical observatory built on top of mount ██████, Hawaii. The observatory contains an extremely large optical telescope designed to capture ultra high resolution images and astrometrical data of deep field objects like very distant galaxies. Its anomalous effect manifests on the data it produces, as images of the night sky appear abnormally blurred and obscured, unknown objects of various sizes appear on all images and data collected independent of the region of the sky the telescope is pointed at. Several interventions were carried out by the team running the observatory to try to fix the apparent malfunction, however results persisted even when utilizing different capturing cameras and enabling the telescope’s adaptive optics systems. After the Incident XXXX-2020/01 activation of the telescope’s instruments is prohibited by order of Senior Researcher Diaz with approval of the O5 Council.

Foundation agents found out about SCP-XXXX after a research paper was published in [DATA EXPUNGED] by a team of astronomers where the first images gathered by the telescope where discussed and analysed, the authors introduce the implementation of a modern technique of cleaning the data with machine learning algorithms which substantially clear the images from unwanted noise, however many unknown objects still manifest in all of them. The team of astronomers propose several theories regarding the nature of these objects including blemishes in the telescope’s mirrors, calibration errors in the capturing devices and atmospheric disturbances, then offer some insight into ongoing efforts to correct these possible issues. Soon after foundation’s agents got to review more of the data the entire observatory was seized, all staff was amnesticized and relocated to other scientific projects. Fortunately at the time, local native groups started protesting against the cultural intrusion of the observatory. The foundation promptly used this to justify the sudden shutdown of operations in the facility. Senior Researcher Choi was assigned to lead the research and containment of the site. See Addendum XXXX/1 for further details.
