Item #: SCP-XXXX

1280px-Metallic_Kidney_Dish.jpg

Object Class: Safe

Special Containment Procedures: SCP-XXXX is to be stored inside of a cylinder (Diameter: 20cm; Height: 30cm) at the bottom of a covered 'well' at the outer perimeter of Site-19. SCP-XXXX and a surveillance camera should be included in the cylinder. The camera must be attached to the Site Surveillance mainframe via RJ45 Co-Axial (Ethernet) cable.

The cylinder containing SCP-XXXX must be retrievable via motorised, remote control, chain-hoist. The Ethernet cable should follow the path of this hoist.

The cylinder must be made of a dense metal or suitably dense material to inhibit the transmission of Gamma radiation. Suitable materials include but are not limited to Gallium and Lead. Lead is economical but discouraged due to toxicity. Material choice to be dictated by Site Operator's budget constraints. For further information, consult Site-19 Safety Missive 106-4, "Acceptable uses and handling of Lead in Containment Procedures" (Foundation Press, 2006, Access level 2).

The well must be no less than 10m deep, and positioned as far from other containment facilities as the site security perimeter will allow. The well must be covered by a locked apron to prevent accidents and/or theft. The walls of the well must be propped to prevent collapse.

Surveillance should check on the status of SCP-XXXX via surveillance footage once every 48hrs. It is expected that the surveillance camera will fail due to radiation effects roughly once every 6 months. When this happens the camera must be replaced by this method:

  1. Prepare a new cylinder installed with replacement camera, cable, and space for SCP-XXXX
  2. Remove the remote control from the chain hoist.
  3. Evacuate to a radius of at least 10m from the site.
  4. Use the control to retract the hoist.
  5. Use robotic or other means to move SCP-XXXX to its new container (the initial containment was performed using several barge-poles)
  6. Use the remote winch to return SCP-XXXX to the bottom of the well.

The old cylinder may then be re-used for the next camera failure.

Description: SCP-XXXX has the appearance of a kidney dish. It measures 11cm wide by 22cm long. It has no distinguishing features save for a number of scratches and dents.
