This SCP is work in progress!
This is a draft for my first SCP, titled "Recursive Hedge Maze"
English is not my mother tongue, so help is appreciated.
If there are any logical fallacies or any obvious things I missed, please let me know.

The maps are obviously done by myself. Layout A is the same as the original hedge maze, so that the image and the maps do work together.
SCP-9999 on the day of recovery by the foundation.
Item #: SCP-9999
Object Class: Safe
Special Containment Procedures: SCP-9999 is closed to the public and surrounded by construction equipment aimed at discouraging attention towards SCP-9999. Each time a stepping event is about to take place, Foundation personnel is required to check the maze for intruders. Foundation personnel should make sure that the entrance and exit of the maze are well secured and that noone can wander inside the maze. foundation personnel on-site are all to be handed stop watches that tell them what time the next stepping event takes place.
In the case of someone wandering inside the maze, foundation personnel is encouraged to lead the intruder out, preferably in a nice and helpful manner, as to not draw attention. Should a stepping event be close, then foundation personnel should draw attention to themselves on the construction framework or the palace, so that the person inside the maze looks at something outside of the maze. For that purpose fireworks are available.
Nearby site-28b is to be surrounded by a fence and secured by cameras. Should the drone leave site-28b it is to be retrieved by nearby personnel.
During the first stepping event of each week a supply crate is to be injected into SCP-9999 and then transported to site-28b
With the conclusion of Project Redeemer, additional requested supply crates have been rejected.
Description: SCP-9999 is a 1640m² big hedge maze located inside the royal garden of ███ ███████ in █████, Spain. The walls are about 1.8m in height and walkways as well as walls are about 1m in width. When a person is inside the maze, not looking at something outside of the maze, such as the entrance of the maze or the palace of ███ ███████ during a stepping event, then the person will lose all sensory abilities towards the real world. Additionally their eyes will turn foggy. The person will be able to recognize and communicate with items and other people that also entered into the maze during a stepping event. Cameras and other electronic devices that are located inside SCP-9999 during a stepping event will also lose their functionality in our dimension, can however be used by people affected by SCP-9999. SCP-9999's anomalously behavior can be traced back to ██/██/199█, when a gardener was declared insane after spending time inside the maze. The gardener then expired shortly after the police took the screaming man with them. The foundation only took notice to SCP-9999 on ██/██/199█, █ years after the first incident, when two brothers, aged █ and █, playing hide and seek inside the maze were affected by its anomalous behavior. The children were running inside the garden, not hearing their mothers voice or reacting to her at all. After the children died a few days later, the rest of the family moved out and their memories were altered by foundation personnel. Their inability to react to anything happening around them, prompted the foundation to investigate. Initial testing with electronic devices confirmed that SCP-9999 was anomalous and has shown that the maze displays this anomalous behavior, further called stepping event, in regular intervals. If the camera of a device was pointed towards the entrance or other elements outside the maze, the stepping event would not deactivate the device. Testing of SCP-9999 with D-class personnel quickly resulted in the reproduction of the gardener's condition. As the condition complicates communication between subjects affected by SCP-9999 and researchers, different methods for communication were implemented. Tests that provided useful information on SCP-9999 are listed in the Addendum.
Tests on-site are currently stopped as the palace of ███ ███████ had been under media coverage due to the birth of Infanta ████ of Spain. O5 have decided to discourage elaborate tests that could draw even more attention and initiated Project Redeemer. Tests on the site-28b however are still on going. Tests on site-28b have concluded and a full mapping of SCP-9999 has been successful.
Addendum 1: This Addendum includes tests on SCP-9999 that yielded results that were marked as of interest by lead researcher Dr.█████. Intensive testing commenced in the months from ██/200█ to ██/200█. These tests ultimately lead to Project Redeemer and the scientific results accompanied by it.
Test #: 9999-01
Subjects: D-1217
Test Conditions: D-1217 entered the maze without specific equipment. He was blindfolded and instructed to leave the blindfold on until MTF units instructed him to take it off. Additional MTF units patrolled the entrance of the maze.
Results: After the stepping event occurred D-1217 was instructed to remove his blindfold. As D-1217 was not responsive to the command, One MTF unit entered the maze and removed the blindfold. D-1217 made remarks that the blindfold was floating in front of him. D-1217 walked straight out the entrance of the maze. Outside he was stopped by MTF units and remarked how big the maze is. When he was dragged inside a car and brought to a nearby foundation site for further examination he screamed about thorns and begged for it to stop. By the time the car reached the site he suffered cardiac arrest and was declared dead.
Remarks: It appears that D-1217 recognizes clothes like the blindfold that were inside the maze as the stepping event occurred, but did not hear or see the MTF unit that removed the blindfold for him. For the subject the maze seemed to stretch outside of the original maze. While the subject doesn't suffer physically, it seems that the subject suffers shock from quick movement. To prevent premature expiration of another subject, it is advised to not move the subject around in further tests.
Test #: 9999-03
Subjects: D-1223
Test Conditions: The subject was advised to always talk of what he experiences. A makeshift wall was constructed in front of the maze. D-1223 was instructed to first check if he can interact with the wall and then was instructed to return into the maze and explore it.
Results: D-1223 was cooperative and explained that he now was in the middle of the maze, looking to where the entrance was, the maze just continued on. Objects that were visible from within the maze, such as a big tree and the palace were now missing in the sky as well as the sound of birds and cars from a nearby street. The wall was not visible, however he was unable to walk past where the wall had stood. When returning inside the maze. Several times D-1223 walked into hedges and complained that he can't explore if walls are erected inside the maze itself. He did however not comment on the bruises and cuts he suffered thru these acts. At this point D-1223 was tranquilized and moved outside of the maze. His heart rate increased drastically however while being moved. He did not make it alive to the nearby site.
Remarks: The internal structure of the maze seems to be different to the outside structure. The subject does not seem to feel pain inflicted on it, however reacts to obstacles and tranquilizer. It is again advised to not move the subject around in further tests until the reason of death is analysed.
Test #: 9999-04
Subjects: D-1229
Test Conditions: D-1229 was injected into SCP-9999 to test the damage of SCP-9999 onto the human body. [DATA EXPUNGED]
Remarks: It became clear that the rapid movement in earlier tests resulted in damage to the subjects as they experienced movement thru thick bushes with thorns. Movement on the vertical have not resulted in damage. Horizontal movement above a height of 1.8m was deemed safe as well.
Test #: 9999-05
Subjects: D-1242 and D-1250
Test Conditions: D-1242 was provided with a map and writing utensils. A crane, that he would not be able to see, would lift him up, so that he can draw the maze and compare it to the original maze. He was also given a watch and was informed that things he needs were to be supplied during stepping events.
Results: After the first stepping event, D-1242 was lifted up. D-1242 made several interesting remarks. First he remarked that the maze seemed to stretch as far as the horizon. Then when looking closer he mentioned that the maze keeps changing in front of his eyes. Lastly he said that he can't see an exit. During the next stepping event D-1242 was provided with an instant camera and the instructions to try to take a picture of the different stages of the maze and then draw them. After the stepping event, the camera did not work for the researches, worked however for D-1242. The pictures taken, showed just the surrounding area as would be expected, in contrast to what D-1242 claims to see on the pictures. D-1242 claims that the maze also changes on the pictures. On the next stepping event D-1242 was provided with supplies for the night, which included food and a tent. The next morning D-1250 was sent into SCP-9999 to provide help to D-1242. During the next days D-1242 and D-1250 were able to discuss certain parts of the maze. When one of them mentioned and pointed at a specific part of the maze and describing it, the other seemed to be able to see it as well. What they could not describe however were dead ends. While both said they can see dead ends, whenever they looked at them, the maze seemed to change.
Remarks: As the original maze blocked paths for the subjects to explore, it was suggested to destroy some hedges. The foundation has however decided against it and instead initiated Project Redeemer due to the palace of ███ ███████ being under increased media coverage when Infanta ████ of Spain was born and the unknown consequences of changes to SCP-9999.
To secure the site of SCP-9999 and still get as much research as possible out of subjects D-1242 and D-1250, the foundation initiated Project Redeemer.
Phase 1: The Foundation supplied the D-class personnel with foods, seeds, tools, tents and other equipment to become self sufficient enough to only need additional supplies once a month. Further they have been supplied with a remote controlled drone and enough writing utensils to map the maze as good as possible. The foundation used a helicopter to fly D-1242 and D-1250 to a nearby field (now site-28b), thus evacuating SCP-9999 of all infected personnel. As there is no known way to actively communicate with D-1242 and D-1250 outside of the palace garden, the subjects are only passively observed. As site-28b is a large open field, D-1242 and D-1250 can further research the maze and provide the foundation with information in form of map drawings. A small base has been established under the location of site-28b staffed with two researchers. the base is connected to the field via a trap door, which allows the researchers to collect drawings, voice and video recordings of the subjects for further study.
Remarks: A theory is that the maze can only be viewed locally. From a high viewpoint, several paths seem to overlap and the subjects can only see the paths that they focus on. The pictures they drew and the fact that no change in the hedge maze ever appears on the ground seems to confirm this. There are a lot of recurring elements in the maze. Certain paths lead to areas that look the same as an area that was visited before but is slightly offset. The maze does not seem to be random. One incident of note is that while exploring, D-1242 and D-1250 stumbled upon each other and although standing right next to each other, could not see each other. They could however hear and touch each other.
Phase 2: With the advent of pathfinding AI, phase 2 of Project Redeemer was initiated on ██/██/201█. 15 solar-powered automatic rovers were injected into SCP-9999 and transported to site-28b. After a few months, enough data was collected and analysed to fully survey the maze. As none of the equipment can be returned to normal functionality, the rovers, drone and other metallic equipment has been dismantled and parts have been re-purposed. Site-28b has been left running unsupervised as there is no immediate need to terminate the D class personnel on site.
Maze layout: The fully uncovered maze consists of three Layouts that are connected thru pathways. Layout A is identical to the original maze, but its dead ends lead into sections of other layouts. Layout B and C have the same size as layout A. SCP-9999's layouts are ordered in a sequence. The sequence seems to follow the Baum-Sweet sequence mirrored around 0. For non logicians working on the maze, the layout can be thought of as random. In each layout there are 8 pathways leading further and 8 pathways leading backwards in the sequence. These pathways are deterministic. The entrance to SCP-9999 leads to the zeroth state, which means that going down leads to layout B and going up leads to layout C initially. An example movement that shows a loop, which shifts the whole maze can be seen in the attached animation. Here layout C is entered from layout A and left thru a different pathway. Real world mazes in the shape of layout B or layout C as potential exits have not been discovered.
Showing the three possible layouts SCP-9999 can have. Layouts are A, B, C from left to right. Going deeper into SCP-9999 is marked in red and going out is marked in green.
