SCP-XXXX-1 ignited by SCP-XXXX

Item #: SCP-XXXX
Object Class: Safe

Special Containment Procedures:
Subjects affected by SCP-XXXX are to be contained and researched within respective Standard Humanoid Containment Cells.

SCP-XXXX-1 is currently contained inside a standard item locker A6 on Site-34.

SCP-XXXX-1 is to never be oriented in such a way that its front can be seen by an individual outside of testing. Only personnel with a clearance of level 2 or higher may be granted a key to unlock the cabinet under the permission of Site Director Dr. Taul/Weber for testing. Staff handling SCP-XXXX-1 are to always place it insde the cabinet with its back facing the door of the cabinet after testing.

Description:
SCP-XXXX is a conciousness-altering effect that causes an affected individual, designated 'subject', to experience time to lapse at an increasingly slowing rate. If the intensity of SCP-XXXX ever plateous or decreases is currently unknown.

SCP-XXXX is contracted by coming into contact with sand poured through SCP-XXXX-1, a pair of glass bulbs connected via a narrow neck 17 cm in diameter, resembling an hourglass lacking a top and bottom lid.

SCP-XXXX is contracted by observing the front of SCP-XXXX-1, a 1 by 1.5 meter oil painting depicting Greek physician Hippocrates of Kos, sitting on a rock in a dark cave. The latin phrase "Vita brevis, ars longa" ("Life is brief, art is long") is written on the back of the painting, consistent with aphorisms attributed to Hippocrates. Individuals that have only observed the back of SCP-XXXX-1 do not display signs of SCP-XXXX contraction. (See Experiment XXXX-2, further research pending approval)

To a subject, the only thing not percieved as slowing down is its conciousness. The subject displays improving reflexes but also certain worsening abilities relying on bodily control, assumed to be caused by its newfound perception of time. Worsening abilities include talking, listening, and to a lesser extent breathing. Subjects have reported speech to sound similar to slowed down audio tapes. All interviewed subjects that have been affected for at least 2 weeks have cited major discomfort to result from SCP-XXXX. There are currently 4 living subjects in foundation custody.

Experiment Log:
Conducted by: Researcher Fors
Subject: D-345, affected by SCP-XXXX
Procedure: Subject was given a stop watch and was instructed to lap its timer in what the subject precieved to be 1 second intervals for 10 seconds. This procedure was repeated daily after effect contraction.

Day Results
8 Subject laps timer approximately 2 times per second.
16 Subject laps timer approximately 4 times per second.
32 Subject laps timer approximately 16 times per second, alternating between 2 fingers, citing body to be "too sluggish".
48 Subject does not lap timer according to instruction. After an initial attempt, subject instead writes a note sayig "Impossible, seconds are minutes."

Note: 18 days after contraction, subject primarily communicated via writing, due to the intensity of SCP-XXXX imparing the subject's ability to speak.

t = 2^(d/8)

"The correlation between the intensity of the effect and the amount of time it has persisted for is assuring in how it is predictable, unless it turns out to ever deviate." -Dr. Weber

"Time moves twice as slow for them after a week. Twice! Will time even move for them after a year?" -Researcher Fors

Transcript of interview XXXX-A:

Interviewed: Subject-XXXX-1 (formerly D-YYY)

Interviewer: Dr. Fors

Foreword: Subject contracted SCP-XXXX 26 days prior to the interview.

<Begin Log, [optional time info]>

Dr. Fors: Good evening, SCP-XXXX-A-5.

Subject immediately showed a page from his personal notebook to Dr. Fors saying "Write instead". From this point onward, the interview consisted of Dr. Fors and the subject exchanging notes from respective notebooks. The contents of these notes are logged in order of writing and or subsequent exchange.

Dr. Fors: Good evening, SCP-XXXX-A-5.

<End Log, [optional time info]>

Closing Statement: Subject-XXXX-2 is funny.
