Description: SCP-XXXX is a roll of red cellophane, 27m long as of ██/██/20██. Anomalous properties exhibited by the object only become evident when:

• cellophane is unrolled and cut from the main roll,
• placed onto a flat surface (⏥-value must be under 0.05),
• laid without folds on the floor¹

Special Containment Procedures:

Description: SCP-XXXX is a rare cognitohazardous effect of audiovisual exposure to the otherwise relatively benign event of watching a firework² explode. It is estimated to affect about 0.2% of first-time viewers of a physical³ explosion (hereafter referred to as SCP-XXXX-A), although this number seems to decrease with greater numbers of fireworks, above a threshold around 2000.

Following exposure to a firework explosion, SCP-XXXX-A will almost always seem unchanged, as SCP-XXXX often⁴ lies dormant for several years. Once this varying period of inactivity is concluded, SCP-XXXX-A will enter into the first phase of affliction. During this phase of exactly 3 years, SCP-XXXX-A will perceive distant firework explosions at a constant distance on nights with a moon that matched the phase of exposure, never visible but supposedly recognizable as such. At this time, SCP-XXXX-A may still be cured of SCP-XXXX with targeted amnestics⁵.

After 3 years, the first phase will conclude, whereupon the second and final phase of affliction will begin immediately. The second phase will last between 6-18 months, varying inversely with the age of SCP-XXXX-A at the conclusion of the first phase. During this period, SCP-XXXX-A will develop an intense and enduring pyromania centered entirely on the creation of explosions. SCP-XXXX-A previously scoring high on tests of willpower may be able to resist these symptoms on their own, an action that is to be highly encouraged by personnel working with SCP-XXXX. Afflicted subjects who score low or average on these tests, however, should be amnesticized according to Protocol Brosnan-81.

1. Anything that can be reasonably be thought of as a possible floor will count. Notably, when tests were performed on a typical bedroom that had been flipped upside-down, the surface above the researchers was the only valid place for phenomena to occur.

2. The prerequisite for what qualifies as a firework seems to depend upon if the firework's creator believed it was a firework when made. This disqualifies objects like star shells and flares.

3. Notably, the effect could not be induced by exposing test subjects to recorded video or audio of a firework's explosion. However, it did prevent subjects from suffering from the effects of SCP-XXXX later on. As a result, the Foundation has collaborated with music producers to surreptitiously embed firework explosions' audio into their products. This has successfully reduced the average global incidence of SCP-XXXX to 0.008% as of 20██, a number exponentially decreasing with time.

4. Good numerical data on SCP-XXXX-A are difficult to produce, given that around 4 in 5 of those afflicted do not suffer symptoms until 5-75 years after initial exposure.

5. SCP personnel are advised that removal of SCP-XXXX-A's memories of their symptoms must occur as well (for purposes outside of testing) in line with Protocol Brosnan-81, as leaving them behind will lead to [DATA EXPUNGED] and incinerated within 24 hours.
