Item #: SCP-4308

Object class: Safe Euclid

Special containment procedures: SCP-4308 is to be housed in a sound proofed, containment cell within Storage Site-64. Adjoined to the containment cell via glass partition is a decoding chamber, with necessary equipment. A team of 5, level 3 researchers D-class personnel are to be working on decoding the sound generated by SCP-4308, rotated out to a second team each 14 hours. Deviations from normal activities are to be reported within 3 minutes of their occurrence to site administrators. Research teams are to be reassigned every 30 days. A button is located within the decoding chamber to summon security personnel. 2 armed guards are to be stationed outside the containment and decoding chambers at all times, rotated every 4 hours. Any music or white noise heard around the chambers is to be reported to maintenance personnel immediately. Requests are forbidden as of 01/01/2019 outside of class-D test subjects (See Incident Report-4308-01).

Description: SCP-4308 is a smooth, metallic, sphere, seven meters in diameter, comprised of an as of yet undetermined, possibly anomalous alloy. SCP-4308 is suspended 1.92 metres above any and all surfaces it is placed upon by an energy field generated within the sphere. The energy field has no harmful effects on biological matter.

SCP-4308 releases a near constant stream of heavily encoded audio. The sound, similar in composure to whitenoise, has been found to be heavily encoded speech matched together from different forms of encoding and languages, including German, Turkish, and Cree (for a full list of languages and encoding, refer to documents 4308-B1, and 4308-B2) as well as several, unknown languages.
Foundation researchers have only been able to decode small amounts of the aforementioned encoded audio. It is believed that the audio from SCP-4308 are all songs, though the origin is unknown.

Tests have concluded that SCP-4308 is indestructible, being that it has survived multiple strikes with a sledgehammer, falls from over 200 meters, and the detonation of the on-site nuclear warhead in site-█. (See incident report-4308-01.) No means have been found that can even scratch or dent SCP-4308's exterior sphere. Being that the metal alloy comprising SCP-4308 is indestructible, the innerworkings of SCP-4308 are unknown.
SCP-4308 is non-sentient sentient and sapient, being that it responds to questions with unencoded known human songs, it shall also do so in the event of song requests. These requests can interrupt both the encoded sound and other requests. (See Addendum-4308-01, Addendum-4308-02, and Addendum-4308-03.) SCP-4308 will only respond to questions via the title of the song it performs.

Addendum-4308-B3: SCP-4308 was found by foundation agents on ██/██/2018, in Monaco during a raid on a warehouse owned by an art collective, referred to as "Vitam aeternam", creating, and utilizing, various anomalous entities and objects for the betterment of humanity. The title and description of the art piece was to be "Musicam perpetua. Feel the music through ordinary sound, to keep music alive when even the governments could not."

Addendum-4308-01: The following is a collection of test logs on SCP-item's sentience.

Test 4308-A1: On ██/██/2018, an unintentional test of SCP-4308's sentience was performed when Doctor Ricars, asked out of boredom, "Why exactly are we even doing this?" Approximately 1 minute after SCP-4308 was asked, decoders discovered SCP-4308 began to perform It's Obvious by Chastity Belt, unencoded. Doctor Ricars requested further tests be done on Scp-4308's sentience. Approved by O5 command.

Test 4308-A2: On ██/██/2018, SCP-4308 was requested by Doctor J████ that it would play a song that best describes his homeland, Sweden. Approximately 1 minute after SCP-4308 was asked, SCP-4308 began to perform Mitt Norrland By Utmarken.

Test 4308-A3: On ██/██/2018, Doctor F██ requested that SCP-4308 would perform a song about Nazi Germany. Approximately 3.4 minutes after SCP-item was asked, SCP-4308 began to perform The Final Solution By Sabaton.

Incident report-4308-01: On 01/01/2019, Researcher P████ requested SCP-4308 would perform a beautiful song. Approximately 5.6 minutes after being asked, SCP-4308 began to perform [Redacted] causing the researchers to [Data Expunged]. This caused the breach of ██ SCP objects, resulting in [Data Expunged] warranting the detonation of the on-site nuclear warhead. Approximately 223 personnel were declared KIA, 35 personnel were declared MIA. Song requests suspended outside testing purposes with D-class personnel. Special containment procedures were updated. SCP-4308 transferred to Site-64.

Forward:
Doctor Ricars: "I dont think this thing can really answer any of our questions sufficiently other than basic questions or giving vague answers. Testing seems futile in this respect."
Request Denied
Forward from Senior Researcher Y████: "Note that slow and prolonged answering times do not warrant the cessation of an interview, Doctor Ricars. Being new to interviewing SCP objects is not a valid excuse for it."
