Special Containment Procedures:

SCP-3712 is to be kept as close to the geometric center of a cylindrical room 40m in diameter and 40m in height. Every three (3) hours, containment staff enter and restore the object, if necessary, to it's demarcated resting place. This room is walled with 20cm-thick acrylic (reinforced with steel threading and modified with a light-filtering agent), and suspended by steel cable within a cubic viewing area at least 60 meters on each side. The "case" is to be is equipped with a pressure sensor and 8 video cameras placed equidistant along the edge of the room. This structure allows SCP-3712 to shift form unhindered, as appears necessary after Incident 3712-C, and allows maximum convenience for maintenance crews and expansion.

The acrylic container is to be filled with as close to 99.8% argon gas at all times, at a pressure of 99.3 kPa.

SCP-3712 remains stored in Site-76.

Description:

SCP-3712 is an object that lacks a single, consistent form, and instead shifts between a number of shapes. It moves between these seemingly at random. Upon acquisition, the object near-exclusively took forms resembling long-bladed hand-held weapons (the by-definition sword), but as of Incident 3712/C, it appears to take the form of anything seemingly ever called a "sword". Through observation it has been found to consider multiple timelines and periods without discretion; through observations it has taken the shape of both Daevite weaponry and shown that it can access the words within SCP-1437.

5:23 The object takes the form of a black Fender Stratocaster. Dr. Aldritch is alerted. This is concluded to be a near-perfect replica of the iconic instrument used by British guitarist David Gilmour.

5:59 The object takes the form of a plastic "toy" sword 45cm in length.

6:13 The object takes the form of a flagellated rapier 121cm in length with a very ornate hilt. On one of the quillins, a ribbin tied to a piece of paper was present. This paper appears to read "FOR OUR MASTERS ABOVE". Considering the attached paper, it would conclude that SCP-3712 can access these timelines as well.

6:14 The object takes the form of a corpse. On one of the feet, a tag reading "Frederick J. Sword" is present. The corpse appears middle-aged, and upon measurement by staff present, is 178.3 cm in height. The corpse is visibly male and appears Irish in nationality. Dr. Aldritch is alerted. He advises to "leave it be".

7:13 The object takes the form of a plastic "toy lightsaber", apparently resembling the fictional "lightsabers" from the 1977 Star Wars franchise.

Addendum 3712/4: Pre-Incident 3712/C Containment and Description

As of Incident 3712/C, these containment procedures are deemed ineffective.

SCP-3712 is to be sat atop a steel rack with three (3) bars in the center of a 3m x 6m x 3m hermetically sealed acrylic case. The case is equipped with a pressurization system that is to be checked every 12 hours by staff. This system will maintain an internal pressure of 99.8 kPa. additionally, a system is to be kept in place that maintains the internal air composition of the case as argon gas (at the exclusion of simple air), with specific attention paid to maintaining >0.01% oxygen at all times to prevent oxidization of the metal within SCP-3712.

A system of surveillance cameras positioned at 45-degree angles on all 4 corners and 2 cameras perpendicular to the "long" sides of the case are used to record all forms SCP-3712 takes. The 6 cameras are to be checked every 4 hours to maintain perpetual function.

The system is kept at Site-76. Any failures in system pressure or purification should be relayed to Dr. Aldritch immediately.

The case's acryllic is reinforced with steel threading and contains a light-filtering agent to prevent damage to SCP-3712.

If at any time SCP-3712 takes a form imperceptible to the human eye, or takes a form that lacks any apparent edge, Dr. Aldritch is to be immediately informed.

Due to recent evidence and theory, this description is no longer considered adequate.

SCP-3712 is of inconsistent form, but manifests typically as anything definable as a 'sword'. The object, at random intervals, will reform into a different type of sword. SCP-3712 typically retains roughly the same size through changes in shape, but has no clear limit on the number of forms it can take, and appears unrestricted by the law of conservation of mass. SCP-3712 has been observed to take alternate forms that lack an edge. (See Addendum 3712) SCP-3712 will always maintain the handle in the same position, regardless of form. As of writing, this position is 23cm off-center within the acryllic case, lying on one of the rack's bars. This is thought to allow SCP-3712 to function feasibly as a weapon.
