Item #: SCP-4556

Object Class: Keter

Special Containment Procedures: Constant surveillance of all TV networks is to be maintained. Any instance of SCP-4556-1 discovered is to be followed by an immediate disconnection of internet service to the news network displaying the instance, as well as the detainment and administration of Class-A amnestics to all instances of SCP-4556-2. Description: SCP-4556 is a phenomenon seen to occur on all TV channels on all service providers. SCP-4556 manifests as an instance of SCP-4556-1, a short, 2-5 minute video appearing to be an Emergency Alert System broadcast. The video is a cognitohazard, claiming that some sort of apocalyptic disaster has happened. All instances of SCP-4556-1 have occurred between 9PM and 5AM EST, with seemingly no preference to any particular month or year, although a preference to the year 2011 was shown. The reason for this is unknown. Any viewers of SCP-4556-1, known as SCP-4556-2, will fully believe that the apocalyptic event is happening. These affected individuals will follow any advice given by the broadcast. These affects seem to cease after approximately 2 months without exposure to SCP-4556-1. So far, no recorded instance of SCP-4556-1 has given advice that could endanger SCP-4556-1 or anyone around them. All Most instances of SCP-4556-1 have provided sound survival advice in the event of the catastrophe described.

The first instance of SCP-4556-1 occurred on [REDACTED], 1999. There have been 13 instances since, known as SCP-4556-A through SCP-4556-M, with no repetition in the supposed apocalyptic event. The instances are as follows:

  • 2000: An extraterrestrial invasion. Advised not to trust any military personnel, to ration food and water, and to remain home.
  • 2002: Widespread hurricane hundreds of times stronger than any recorded before. Advised to move to a basement and barricade the doors.

<Begin Log>

SCP-4556-2-B is breathing heavily.

Dr. ███: Hello, SCP-455-

SCP-4556-2-B: [Interrupting] Don't you 'hello' me, you bastards. Don't think I don't know exactly what you are.

Dr. ███: And what exactly am I?

SCP-4556-2-B: You're one of those alien fuckers the TV alert was warning us about!

Dr. ███: Is there any information you base this claim on besides the TV alert?

SCP-4556-2-B: Your goddamned soldiers showed up, took us from our homes into this facility, and now you call me SPC-whatever-the-fuck like I'm one of your lab rats. Are those enough good reasons to assume you assholes are aliens?

Dr. ███: I see. What would you like me to call you then?

SCP-4556-2-B: My name is John.

Dr. ███: Alright then, John, can you please describe this TV alert to us?

SCP-4556-2-B: Fine. It looked like one of those normal government alerts that interrupt whatever shit you're watching. It mentioned extraterrestrial fuckers or whatever that shapeshift to look like humans. It said that the military couldn't be trusted, and to hide in my house. Said that if anyone broke in, to be completely silent and not let anyone find you. About half an hour later, your guys showed up and told me and my wife to come with them. We-

SCP-4556-2-B's voice cracks. He begins to quietly sob

SCP-4556-2-B: She got mad, attacked one of the guys, and they- they just-

SCP-4556-2-B begins crying much louder**

SCP-4556-2-B: They-

Two minutes pass of SCP-4556-2-B crying. After calming down, he continues.

SCP-4556-2-B: They shot her. Didn't even hesitate. I saw it happen. Her body's probably still just sitting there in the house.

Dr. ███: I understand. I'm very so-

SCP-4556-2-B: You understand? My wife is dead! [SCP-4556-2-B rises from his seat.] I had to watch those fuckers shoot my wife in the head while I couldn't do anything, and you say you understand?

Two guards enter the interview room and begin to remove SCP-4556-2-B.

SCP-4556-2-B: You alien fuckers killed her! It's all your fault!
