Item #: SCP-XXXX

Object Class: Safe

Special Containment Procedures: SCP-XXXX is to be securely locked in a standard sized containment cell within Site-XX’s light containment zone. The cell walls are to be lined with pure lead, which are to be checked for any damage weekly, and a decontamination airlock must be utilized. SCP-XXXX must be guarded by one armed security personnel at all times, and can only be accessed by Level 2 research staff or higher. Any Foundation staff accessing SCP-XXXX are required to wear radiation protection suits, and must be decontaminated after exiting the cell via the airlock cleaning system. D-Class personnel used in experiments involving the object may be exempt from wearing personal protective equipment, with approval from the experiment’s head researcher.

Description: SCP-XXXX is a small tricycle, manufactured by █████, sometime in the mid 1970s in ████, Ukraine. The object is bright red in appearance, and has not suffered from any corrosion damage, despite its age. SCP-XXXX is mostly undamaged, save for a noticeable bend toward the front of the frame, and a small cut in the leather seat (See Addendum-XXXX). SCP-XXXX constantly emits gamma radiation in all directions. It is theorized that damage done to the object causes this emission. As the item is damaged, the level of radiation emitted increases exponentially. SCP-XXXX was at the scene of the Chernobyl Disaster, and its anomalous properties presumably resulted from the event. Currently, the item emits [REDACTED] rads, an increase of about [REDACTED] since the initial recovery.

Recovery Log: SCP-XXXX was recovered in Pripyat, Ukraine, following the Chernobyl Disaster of 1986, in which the city’s nuclear power plant had a meltdown, resulting in immediate the deaths of around 50 individuals and the radioactive contamination of the city and surrounding areas. The object was recovered by MTF Zeta-9 (“Mole Rats”) during their initial recon of the city following the incident. Zeta-9 split into several teams, searching for a potential anomalous cause of the incident, or any objects exhibiting abnormal properties resulting from the blast. Zeta-9 Command began picking up unusual radiation levels from a nearby apartment complex, roughly ████ meters from the power plant, and a squad was sent to investigate. In front of the building, SCP-XXXX was discovered, and the bent frame is thought to be caused by an impact from the explosion. The item was put in a mobile containment unit, and was shipped to Site-XX shortly after.

Addendum: On July ██, 1986, roughly three months after the Chernobyl incident, a small incision was made into SCP-XXXX’s seat, in order to test the theory of how its anomalous properties function. Roughly 30 seconds after this incision, SCP-XXXX’s radiation levels quickly ascended to [REDACTED] rads. No further experiments are being held at this time.
