Item #: SCP-number
Object Class: Thaumiel
Special Containment Procedures: SCP-number should be kept in a steel vault similar in design to a bank vault. It should be password protected. The password for said vault should be a 39-digit code. Each member of the 05 council should memorize the password. At no point should anyone outside of the 05 Council know the code. The vault should also require the thumbprint, hand scan, and an iris scan of one 05 members to open. Armed guards should be stationed outside the vault door at all times. At no point should the vault be left unguarded. Only people with permission from at least ten members of the 05 Council will be permitted entry. Anyone entering the vault should be under 05 supervision.

Description: SCP-number is comprised of an envelope, a letter, and a fountain pen. The envelope is a C4 envelope from the 1960s. Its front and back are blank, with no mailing address or return address. The fountain pen has been assigned the name SCP-number-P. SCP-number-P is a fountain pen of the Mont Blanc model, also from the 1960s. Inspection has shown that the pen is out of ink and there is no way to replace the empty cartridge. Nothing short of breaking the pen open would allow someone access to the cartridge. The letter will be referred to as SCP-number-L from now on. SCP-number-L is an A4 size paper also from the 1960s. It is addressed to the 05 Council and expresses the purpose of helping the Foundation in its problems. SCP-number-L also has a blank space at the bottom of it after the written part.

SCP-number and all its subcategories were recovered on ██/█/██ when it appeared on 05 █’s desk. After reading it, the 05 Council immediately detained the SCP at [REDACTED]. It was later moved to its current containment facility.

The letters writer, referred to as SCP-number-A, claims that the letter and SCP-number-P can neutralize any SCP of its respective anomalies. SCP-number-A instructs the 05 Council to write the assigned SCP number in the blank part of SCP-number-L. Doing so is claimed to “cure,” said SCP of its anomalous properties. SCP-number-A claims that this will not harm selected SCP unless that SCP cannot exist without being anomalous.

SCP-number-A, SCP-number-P, and SCP-number-L are all collectively referred to as SCP-number.
The 05 Council has unanimously voted to deny all attempts of using this SCP. It is unknown whether or not the SCP works or not, but it is assumed so.

Addendum-2: After several years of inactivity regarding SCP-number, the 05 Council decided to take steps to gauge the anomalously of SCP-number.

Test A – 6/11/20██

Subject: D-09207

Procedure: D-09207 was instructed to simply write the word “test” on the blank space of SCP-number-L using SCP-number-P.

Results: Even though the pen was reportedly out of ink, it wrote the word in dark crimson. It took D-09207 an abnormally long time to do so. During this time, D-09207 reported feeling lightheaded. After finishing their task, D-09207 turned pale and fainted. 24 hours afterward, the word D-09207 wrote disappeared.

Analysis: After medical examination, it was concluded that D-09207 had experienced significant blood loss. A DNA test was taken, and it was confirmed that the “ink” that D-09207 had written the word with was their blood.

Test B – 12/4/20██

Subject: D-20871

Procedure: D-20871 was instructed to write their full name, including middle name, on the blank space of SCP-number-L.

Results: D-20871 was slow-moving and reported feeling lightheaded. When they finished writing, D-20871 collapsed, unconscious. 24 hours after the experiment, the words D-20871 vanished.

Analysis: Medical attention revealed that the cause of the collapse was blood loss. DNA testing revealed that the “ink” used had been D-2087’s blood. There was a significant difference in how much blood D-20871 had lost than that of D-09207. It is suspected that the number of characters written could affect the amount of blood loss.

Test C – 6/12/20██

Subject: D-76289

Procedure: D-76289 was told to keep writing random words on the blank space of SCP-number-L until they ran out of room. D-76289 was specifically instructed not to write SCP numbers.

Results: D-76289 took a long time to write anything and reported feeling lightheaded during the entire experiment. D-76289 managed to write six words before passing out. After 24 hours, the words D-76289 had written disappeared, consistent with the last two experiments. The blood loss of D-76289 was so severe that they died a few hours later.

Analysis: DNA testing was run once more, and the “ink” was indeed D-76289’s blood. This confirmed the correlation between characters written and blood loss.

Addendum-3: The 05 Council banned any further testing of SCP-number. Complaints have been ignored or rejected.
