Item #: SCP-5471
Object Class: Euclid
Special Containment Procedures: SCP-5471 is to be kept facedown in a 5x7x4-meter containment chamber inside of 20.8 cm cube with one removable face made up of glass. All foundation staff personnel are forbidden from looking at SCP-5471 directly. Personnel who do look at SCP-5471 directly are to be escorted to Doctor Ternalp's office for psychological testing.
Due to the nature of SCP-5471, it is to be trimmed at 00:00 and 12:00 every day, cutting off exactly 20 centimeters each time. Failure to do this could result in a Euclid-Level containment breach. If this happens, report code words "Vaguely Material" to the site directors, who will then signal for Mobile Task Force unit Eta-10, and then will evacuate the site. During the evacuation, all personnel are not to make eye contact with anyone else until safely rescued by Eta-10.
In the case of Stage-5 symptoms from SCP-5471-1, code words "Regenerative Turnip" are to be reported to the site directors, who will then signal for Mobile Task Force unit Eta-10 and Nu-7 are to be called for immediately. Foundation personnel are to report to their nearest evacuation shelter until further notice and are to not make eye contact with anyone else until safely rescued.
In the case of Stage-6 symptoms, the site's nuclear warheads are to be activated.
Description: SCP-5471 is a crystal contained in a 20.8-cm cube with one removable face made of an unknown glass-like substance. SCP-5471's surface is so complex that it seems to be moving, and when looking at it. Further studies report that the crystal is a material that is not of this planet and is most likely from outside of the Solar System.
SCP-5471 grows at a constant rate of 1.6(repeating) centimeters per hour. It is currently unknown how to stop it from growing, but to prevent it from filling up the box by reaching 8998.912 centimeters cubed, refer to the Special Containment Procedures.
When looked at directly, SCP-5471 causes a slight headache, and a slight humming can be heard in the subject's ears. Upon broken eye contact, the subject will stop experiencing these symptoms and must be taken to Doctor Ternalp's office immediately.
Subjects who make direct eye contact are considered SCP-5471-1 due to the possibility of a Stage 6 disaster. Testing has shown that all patients have experienced this set of symptoms, in order:
- Peripheral: The subject will start to see the SCP-5471 in their peripheral vision.
- Wanting more: The subject begins to want to see the SCP-5471 again, and they can see the crystal slowly growing on some surfaces
- Insanity: The subject is begging to see SCP-5471 again. The subject can see the SCP almost everywhere, including on their body. The subject can hear a melody in their ears.
- Carrier: The subject is visibly growing SCP-5471-2 on their skin. The subject will use force to see SCP-5471 again. The subject can complain that they can hear the definition of SCP-5471, most likely relating to what SCP-5471 looks like and the melody from Symptoms 3. The subject will attempt to breach SCP-5471 from containment. The subject is to be terminated if possible.
- Breach: The subject will be growing SCP-5471-2 over [DATA EXPUNGED] and is resistant to damage. In this stage, the subject will have breached SCP-5471, and possibly other SCPs. The subject will attempt to "show others the beauty of it," in which case the subject is referring to SCP-5471. In order to terminate the subject in this stage, the subject is to be doused in acid of PH four-tenths.
- Fuck: At this stage, the entire site has been breached and Eta-10 and Beta-7 have failed in containing SCP-5471 and terminating SCP-5471-1. If this stage is reached, the Alpha-Warheads are to activate.
History: SCP-5471 was first noticed by the foundation in August 19██, when a research lab in the ██████ Mountains went dark. After the local inspector team that went to make sure everything was okay also went dark, the local Sheriff's office sent a squad to investigate what happened. Only Sheriff █████ left the lab, obviously shaken by the experience.
After a few days, the Sheriff was continually talking about how the SCP was so mesmerizing and how he had to go back and see it again. When the Sheriff tried to bring people to see it, undercover Agent ██████ intervened and took him in for an interview, see Interview Log 1 for more details. After the interview, the foundation quickly sent in Mobile Task Force unit Eta-10 was sent to investigate and capture the SCP, refer to Addendum-A for more details. After the SCP was successfully contained, the research lab was [Data Expunged], and Sheriff █████ was terminated.
Interview Log 1
Interviewer: Agent ██████
Interviewee: Sheriff █████
Date: August ██, 19██
Notes: Sheriff █████ was currently an unknown instance of SCP-5471-1 and would be terminated at the end of this log.
[BEGIN LOG]
Agent ██████: Hello there Mr. █████, I am Xavier Touren and I work for the ██████ Government. I am going to ask you some questions about what happened on August ██, if that's alright.
Sheriff █████: Go ahead.Agent ██████: Can you describe to me what happened on August ██?
Sheriff █████: Sure thing. I and three other co-workers were dispatched to this laboratory deep in the mountains, took us a few hours to get there, and when we arrived there was another car there and the front door was open. We investigated the car and found it to be the investigators that were sent there the day before. We immediately were on guard and entered the lab. The power was off and it was freezing in there, plus we had this thought someone.. no… something was watching us. We went deeper in the lab, and we could now hear some people singing this weird song, I can't even remember it…
At this point the sheriff went silent for a few moments. He then began to hum a crude lullaby that kept going up and down in tone and pitch.
Agent ██████: Excuse me, what are you doing?
The sheriff quickly rose from his chair and pointed to the Agent
Sheriff █████: See! You're one of them! You're one of them! God, it feels so good to see one of them again! Take me back to it! I have to see it again!
Agent ██████: What's going on? I have no idea what you are talking about!
The sheriff then lunged at the Agent and started to claw at the Agent. Guards waiting outside the room quickly entered hearing the Agent's screams and restrained the Sheriff.
[END LOG]
The Sheriff was held in a 5x5x3-meter containment chamber until the orders to terminate him were given.
