Special containment procedures: due to the nature of SCP 001, containment of the object is not possible. In lieu of this fact, procedures have instead been put in place to observe SCP 001 and keep knowledge of the anomaly from the public.
Site 001 is built around the entrance of a hole in the ground, designated SCP 001-A. Site 001 is to be staffed by no fewer than 10 Mobile Task Force agents equipped with standard security equipment to patrol the site and make sure civilians do not enter the building. MTF team 001 A2 (Strike the earth) has been chosen for this task. is the Aside from security, site 001 must also be staffed with no fewer than 20 researchers of at least level 4 clearance hand picked by the 05 council to serve at site 001.
An unmanned camera equipped with seismic reading equipment is located at the bottom of SCP 001-A and the feed from this camera must be monitored by at least 2 research staff at all times with no exceptions. The purpose of this camera is to observe the heart of SCP 001 and allow staff to observe any changes. Monitoring must be carried out in shifts with rotations taking place every 8 hours. All staff assigned to site 001 will be assigned on site quarters and may not leave the site unless administered class D amnestics and a suitable replacement must be chosen at least one month beforehand.
Absolutely no human is to enter the cavern containing the heart of SCP 001. Any person found to have entered the cavern and seen the heart firsthand will be questioned about any voices heard or any visions observed. After all relevant information has been extracted from the subject, they will be terminated.
Any deviation in seismic readings or visual observations of the object must be reported immediately with the on site panic button located on far left wall of the monitoring room behind breakable glass. If the panic button on site 001 is activated, all foundation personnel are freed from their duties and may leave to spend their remaining time at their own discretion. Currently, there is no way to prevent an XK class scenario in the event that SCP 001 enters an active state.
Description: SCP 001 is the living entity known as, Earth. Currently, the Earth is currently in a state of deep sleep and it has been that way since the end of the Cretaceous Period. The entity has existed for 4.54 Billion years by current estimates. During that time, SCP 001 has woken up 5 times in total and each of these events corresponds to a mass extinction event. The entity has demonstrated extreme hostility to any life inhabiting it and seems to grow in strength with every extinction event. (see document: 001 alpha)
SCP 001-A is a perfectly spherical hole in the ground located in [REDACTED], Australia measuring 25 meters in diameter that leads to the heart of SCP 001. The depth of SCP 001-A is paradoxically only 10 meters downwards but radar and tracking equipment places the bottom of it at the center of the earth. How this is possible is currently unknown.
At the bottom of SCP 001-A is a large cavern made up of some kind of smooth stone that is not located anywhere on the foundation’s expanded periodic table and any attempts to damage the stone or take a sample, have been unsuccessful. Attached firmly to the roof of the cavern by several large vein like structures, made of the same stone as the walls of the cavern, is what appears to be a giant beating heart, around 10x the size of the heart of a blue whale.
The temperature of the cavern remains at a consistent temperature of 33 degrees C with significant amounts of humidity. This climate maintains itself regardless of the temperature around the entrance and any deviation should be reported via standard means as this does not necessarily indicate an awakening event.

Note: the following document was written by the foundation administrator after the discovery and subsequent study of SCP 001.
I have no proof that the information I have gained is true, I can only tell you that I know it to be so. I have listened to the planet and, for one reason or another, it revealed to me how it felt. Perhaps I am not expressing myself correctly, it did not "speak" to me in the traditional sense rather, it has allowed me to feel what it feels. It holds such a primal, bitter hatred for us, one that I have yet to observe in any other object. It has told me what it has done in the past and what it intends to do once it gathers its strength and awakens again. We cannot neutralize SCP 001 for, obvious reasons. Our next best bet is working to observe it and keep it a secret.
Its funny isn't it? All the work we've done to protect our little blue ball, and it wants us dead. Regardless, our mission stays the same: we secure, we contain, we protect.

RETINAL SCAN SUCCESFUL, WELCOME DOCTOR
On the morning of August 17th, 2001, a researcher assigned to site 001 disobeyed direct orders and explored the cavern of SCP 001-A. The camera was able to observe the researcher as he descended into the cavern and stood motionless while staring at the heart. This behavior continued for 15 at which point, he ascended through the hole of 001-A, using the industrial mounting holding the camera, and proceeded back to his quarters despite protests from other research staff.
Once security entered the scene, it took 10 minutes for them to break down the door to the researcher’s quarters as he had barricaded it with various furniture items. (Note: all furniture in site 001 is to be bolted down to the floor in lieu of this incident) when the door was finally opened, the researcher was found to have committed suicide by hanging himself with his bedsheets from the ceiling fan. (Note: all internal cooling of site 001 will now be done via central air conditioning to prevent repeated instances of this behavior)
He was found to have written out a note in his research journal before taking his own life. This was initially thought to be a suicide note but upon further inspection, it reads like a short fictional story. The note reads as follows:
“Once upon a time, there was a kingdom ruled over by a cruel queen. She hated all of her subjects but above all, she hated the children. She ordered that every child in the kingdom be sacrificed and burned alive and she sent her knights out to make it so! One mother could not stand to see her child burned at the hands of the queen and so she set her adrift on the river with the request to grow up strong and take revenge. That girl was raised by the wolves and when she was strong enough, she overthrew the retched queen and cursed her to bear countless children until the end of time. The queen was locked away and the young wolf girl took on the eternal duty of watching over her to assure she would forever stay locked away and she bore a hole in the queen’s chest so that her wicked heart would forever be on display for all to see”
Given the events surrounding the writing of this note, it is assumed that the contents of this story are relevant to SCP 001. Any and all pertinent information gleamed from this reading by the 05 council is to be documented.
