Description: SCP-XXXX is a television receiver, Vizio model number D55u-D1W, serial number LTCW7UCAS0357788. Vizio does not manufacture this model number, and has no record of this serial number.

SCP-XXXX as found. It is turned off; the room is reflected in the screen.

SCP-XXXX was retrieved from the living room of a Mrs. █████ █████, of Peterborough, Canada, after she complained that the receiver's 'picture was wrong' and called a service technician. SCP front organization Simple Cheerful Practical Electronics, an electronics installation and repair company catering to seniors in the Peterborough area, sent a technician to look at the receiver.

Upon connecting SCP-XXXX to mains power and turning it on, the technician realized the receiver merited further investigation and arranged for a replacement. SCP-XXXX , including its remote control and power cord, were taken to Simple Cheerful Practical's workshop. There was no manual or packaging provided.

The display of SCP-XXXX contains an array of pixels at the standard "Ultra HD" resolution of 3840 pixels by 2160 pixels. Each pixel contains six sub-pixels. Five of these display primary colours (infrared, red, green, blue, and ultraviolet); the sixth sub-pixel does not seem to display a colour; what it does display is unknown.

Picture Testing
SCP-XXXX has a set of 6 analogue component inputs via RCA jacks labeled Pk/Ck, Pe/Ce, Pr/Cr, Pb/Cb, Pl/Cl, and Y. These jacks are labeled to accept luma-based component input, but they can also accept raw RGB component input. We provided baseband RGB analogue signals to these inputs, and SCP-XXXX was able to display a picture.

R, G, and B component signals to reproduce a still video image were provided to the inputs labeled Pr/Cr, Pb/Cb, and Y respectively; SCP displayed a picture with some interference.

Additional signals in the same format as the RGB signals, but with voltage values set to reproduce black, were provided to the Pk/Ck, Pe/Ce, and Pl/Cl inputs. We labeled these additional signals as K, E, and L, based on the labeling on the receiver's case. SCP-XXXX displayed a clear picture.

When all signals were set to 'black', SCP-XXXX displayed a black screen.

When the E input was provided with still video input, the set remained black to the naked eye, but a mobile phone camera showed that the set was displaying a picture. The phone displayed the picture as monochrome, a purplish white colour. Researcher Johnson pointed out that this resembled the appearance of infrared emissions from a remote. Measurement with a calibrated hyperspectral camera showed that the E input resulted in a picture in the near infrared.

Video provided to the L input also resulted in a black screen to the naked eye, but the hyperspectral camera showed the set displaying a still picture in the near ultraviolet.

Video provided to the K input resulted in a black screen as well. The hyperspectral camera did not display any pictures within its spectral range (thermal infrared at 1000 nm to far ultraviolet at 10 nm), but people within viewing angle of the receiver reported headaches, nausea, and dizziness. The nature of the 'picture', if any, provided by the K input is unknown.

<Singh> We've taken a good look at this thing, and quite frankly I don't know who it's built for. There's been some speculation about humans seeing ultraviolet as a fourth primary colour, but AFAIK no-one's thought about infrared in this context. I don't even want to know what kind of optics could handle such a wide colour range without significant chromatic aberration.
<Johnson> Ultraviolet? Can you get a sunburn off this thing?
<Singh> Eventually. Maybe. That first subpixel is only near-UV, so it wouldn't necessarily have much of an effect right away.
