Draft of "When was the last time I had the dream to myself?"
Item #: SCP-XXXX
Object Class: Euclid
Special Containment Procedures: Due to the nature of SCP-XXXX, containment does nothing to prevent SCP-XXXX’s anomalous properties. Due to continued work with the Foundation, and good behavior, SCP-XXXX is allowed to be granted reasonable requests. SCP-XXXX is expected to report to Dr. Hallett nightly.
Description: SCP-XXXX is a Caucasian woman human of 19 years of age. It has the anomalous ability to place itself in the minds and dreams of other people when it falls asleep.
SCP-XXXX’s anomaly surfaced on ██/██/20██when SCP-XXXX fell asleep only to find itself in the dream of famous Youtuber [REDACTED], better known as [REDACTED].
SCP-XXXX was discovered by the SCP Foundation 2 months later, when SCP-XXXX fell asleep in the mind of Junior Researcher Forrester, who, upon waking up from his own slumber, immediately reported SCP-XXXX to Dr. Hallett, who in turn dispatched agents from Site-██ to collect it.
Due to SCP-XXXX’s habit of returning to the same subjects repeatedly, and the nature of SCP-XXXX’s anomaly, the use of amnestics on SCP-XXXX’s subjects has been denied for most cases.
SCP-XXXX has the ability to go into the minds of other people. SCP-XXXX can only do so while it is asleep, though its subject need not be. While in the subject’s mind, SCP-XXXX can talk to the subject and access the subject’s memories, emotions, and what they are doing at the moment. SCP-XXXX chooses a subject by thinking of the subject before falling asleep, as the subject is the very last person SCP-XXXX thinks of before falling asleep. This ability appears to be caused by SCP-XXXX’s brain producing an unknown chemical, allowing it to enter the minds of its subjects. SCP-XXXX’s abilities manifest themselves differently according to whether their subject is awake or asleep, in three varying states known as XXXX-A, XXXX-B, and XXXX-C.
If SCP-XXXX’s subject is asleep, then SCP-XXXX creates the state XXXX-A. SCP-XXXX and the subject find themselves in what normally manifests itself as a seemingly endless, empty room with a white floor and a white ceiling, known as XXXX-1. The walls, if there are any, are not visible. XXXX-1 normally changes to the whims of SCP-XXXX’s desires. In XXXX-1, SCP-XXXX and its subject can converse and interact as if in a dream. SCP-XXXX can not actively read the subject’s mind in this state, though with ease it can access the subject’s emotional state and memories, including memories that have been forgotten by the subject, whether due to time, trauma, or amnestics.
Occasionally, SCP-XXXX and its subject will find themselves in a normal dream sequence, known as XXXX-B, belonging to either SCP-XXXX or the subject, with mixed results [See Logs-XXXX-4 through 6, and Log-XXXX-15]. In XXXX-B, SCP-XXXX has the same abilities as in XXXX-A.
If SCP-XXXX’s subject is awake, SCP-XXXX finds itself in state XXXX-C. SCP-XXXX describes XXXX-C as a library with a giant computer screen, through which it can see what the subject sees. On the shelves of the library are books containing the memories of the subject. Upon opening a book, SCP-XXXX and the subject both vividly experience the memory. SCP-XXXX describes the books as colorful, with the memories within labeled on the spine of the book. Forgotten memories appear as books with black covers and no title, though when SCP-XXXX opens the book, it reacts as a normal memory. The subject can communicate with SCP-XXXX through its thoughts, however, often the subject will speak out loud in an attempt to communicate with SCP-XXXX, giving the subject the appearance of talking to themselves.
Occasionally, SCP-XXXX will be able to bring objects in and out of the dream settings, with varying success. In order to be transporting the object, SCP-XXXX must be holding it in its hand as they fall asleep, or in its hand in the dream setting as they awaken. The current success rate in transporting objects is about 1 in 4, though when SCP-XXXX was discovered, the success rate was 1 in 10, indicating the ability improves with practice. It is currently unknown how SCP-XXXX makes matter disappear or appear.
SCP-XXXX’s work with the SCP Foundation includes ongoing experimentation with its abilities and investigative work into PoIs. The SCP Foundation also attempts to keep logs of SCP-XXXX's dreams as a manner of keeping a record of how SCP-XXXX's anomalies develop [See Logs-XXXX-1 through -29]. Approval for experimentation with other SCPs is pending. While SCP-XXXX is normally very helpful in these circumstances, if it does not agree with the SCP Foundation’s motives, it becomes uncooperative, [See Log-XXXX-21].
State XXXX-A with Dr. Elliot Hallett. Interview.
Dr. Hallett: Ah, I see you’ve made it to the interview this time.
SCP-XXXX: [nervous chuckling] Yeah, sorry about that. I tried to do it the past few nights, but my brain wanders.
Dr. Hallett: Well, you’re here now. Enjoying your facilities?
SCP-XXXX: Kind of boring, to be perfectly honest. But, if I’m perfectly honest, not a surprise.
Dr. Hallett: Letting what you see on TV guide the imagination?
SCP-XXXX: Tried not to, but you probably are familiar with the … er, pervasive effects of media.
Dr. Hallett: Not as much as I used to be. [pause] Anyway, I think it's time to move onto the interview.
SCP-XXXX: We could have done this in person, you know.
Dr. Hallett: True, but I wanted to be… [gestures] here, wherever that is.
SCP-XXXX: It's just a dream. I don't think it physically exists anywhere.
Dr. Hallett: Is that so?
SCP-XXXX: Yeah, I think it's just a figment of my imagination. I could be wrong though. 'M not really an expert in any of this.
Dr. Hallett: [examining notes] So this started happening 2 months ago?
SCP-XXXX: I… [stares at fingers to count] Yes, that sounds right. It was in [REDACTED]. I remember because it was my birthday.
Dr. Hallett: I see.
SCP-XXXX: And at first I thought it was just a weird dream, y'know? It wasn't until I fell asleep inside of an actual dream for once, or at least, not one of my own, instead of this room that I realized that it was something else.
Dr. Hallett: I see. And when was that in relation to when your anomaly manifested?
SCP-XXXX: Oh, geez. Um. Maybe… uh. I don't know exactly, but probably about two, maybe three weeks later? I can't tell you for sure. Was occupied with college and the likes. Oh, wait! I forgot I could do this!
SCP-XXXX proceeds to pull a book from what appears to be thin air and flips it open to a random page. The book is red with gold text on the cover denoting it as "██/██/20██".
SCP-XXXX: [reading from the book] It seems like it was 17 days after, according to this.
Dr. Hallett: What is that?
SCP-XXXX: A memory. I can get one of yours, too. [pause] If that's okay with you, of course. If not, just pretend I didn't offer.
Dr. Hallett: Do you have control over which one you get?
SCP-XXXX: If I know what I'm looking for, yes. If not, I just get a random one.
Dr. Hallett pauses, looking deep in thought.
Dr. Hallett: How about you pull up our first meeting when you were awake?
SCP-XXXX: Sure. Can do. It throws the book with its own memory over its shoulder, where it disappears. It then grabs a new book in a similar fashion to the first one, this one blue with silver text reading "██/04/20██" on the spine. Upon opening it, the memory of their first meeting plays out from Dr. Hallett's perspective, with perfect recall. The two are silent for the entire visual.
Dr. Hallett: Incredible. That has details I had forgotten.
SCP-XXXX: Yeah. It seems the memories are always there, but they just disappear from your mind's eye. Pretty interesting, if you ask me.
Dr. Hallett looks vaguely troubled.
Dr. Hallett: I think that will be all for today's interview. Thank you, XXXX.
SCP-XXXX: No problem.
Researcher's Notes: It's very concerning that the memories SCP-XXXX pulls from its subjects' minds are in such vivid details. I will have to see if it can access memories that have been removed by amnestics. - Dr. Hallett
State XXXX-A with Researcher Jace DeRolo. Experiment to look for memories removed by amnestics.
Context: Researcher DeRolo has been, in the past, administered amnestics after their work with [REDACTED]. SCP-XXXX was asked to pull up a specific memory involving [REDACTED].
SCP-XXXX: Hey!
Researcher DeRolo looks surprised briefly.
Researcher DeRolo: Wow, you're… a lot more human-looking than I expected you to be if I'm honest.
SCP-XXXX: [smiling] Well, that's a relief. I think this will make this a little bit easier, then.
Researcher DeRolo: You're supposed to be accessing one of my memories, right?
SCP-XXXX: Mhmm, about [REDACTED].
Researcher DeRolo: But I never did any work with that. I don't even know what that is!
SCP-XXXX: Dr. Hallett seemed pretty sure you did. [pause] Are you ready to figure out something you've forgotten, then?
Researcher DeRolo: I guess.
SCP-XXXX pulls out another book in the same manner as before. Unlike before, this book is completely black, pages and cover, with no text written on it.
SCP-XXXX: Fascinating. I've never seen a memory like this before. [looking up at Researcher DeRolo] Are you ready?
Researcher DeRolo: [nodding] Ready as I'm going to be.
In the same manner as with Dr. Hallett's memory, Researcher DeRolo's memory plays out before them in vivid color and detail. It accurately reflects Researcher DeRolo's work with [REDACTED].
Researcher DeRolo: [looking pale] I had… I had no idea I did that. [They sit on the floor in shock.]
SCP-XXXX: Yeah, that was sure something. [noticing Researcher DeRolo] Woah, dude, are you okay?
Researcher DeRolo: I just… I just need a moment I think.
SCP-XXXX: Take your time. Can I get you anything? A cushion? A chair? Water?
The rest of the dream sequence continues in a similar fashion of SCP-XXXX trying to comfort Researcher DeRolo as they adjust to the information they just learned.
Researcher's Note: I'm still trying to recover from that. The detail that memory had, and the fact that I couldn't remember any of it until SCP-XXXX opened that book… It has a power, that's for damn sure. - Researcher DeRolo.
State XXXX-A with object retrieval with Dr. Hallett. Experiment to test object retrieval abilities SCP-XXXX mentioned off-hand in an awake interview.
Dr. Hallett: Alright, XXXX, we're gonna start with something small, alright?
SCP-XXXX: Sure. But, do be warned, I have no clue if it'll work. Normally doesn't.
Dr. Hallett: No worries. If it doesn't work this evening, then we'll try again tomorrow. Though, to be fair, we'll probably be trying again tomorrow regardless.
SCP-XXXX: [cracking a smile] Alright. Cool. Any preference on what I grab?
Dr. Hallett: Just a wooden pencil will be fine.
SCP-XXXX closes its eyes and holds out its hand. A second later, the pencil appears approximately two inches above SCP-XXXX's hand, and it opens its eyes as it fumbles the pencil before grabbing it.
SCP-XXXX: Whoops. Okay. There we go. [extends the pencil to Dr. Hallett] Want to see it before we try taking it back to the land of the living?
