Item #: SCP-4084

Item class: Euclid Keter (See incident report 4084-1)

Special containment procedures: SCP-4084 is to be contained in a cylindrical room with a radius of 7.5 m at Area 79, located in ████ forest in ████. In the middle of said room, there is to be a 5 x 5 x 5 m Hollow cube made of 50 cm thick reinforced concrete, inside of which SCP-4084 is to be held. The concrete cube will have a single access point consisting of a 30 x 30 cm hatch made of reinforced steel to provide access to the object for testing. The room itself should have only one entrance and one exit, and no more than 8 viewing windows made of bulletproof glass. Windows should not exceed 150 cm in length and 50 cm in height in order to decrease the risk of structural failure. SCP-4084 is to be contained in Area 79 indefinitely due to its immense weight.

At the exit of SCP-4084's containment cell is to be a clean room equipped with multiple forms of electromagnetic and X-ray imaging in order to detect any infection unknowingly passed on to personnel during sample retrieval. a minimum of 14 Armed guards are to be stationed at site 79 at any given time: 4 patrolling the exterior, 2 guarding the entrance, 4 patrolling the main body of the building (i.e. containment and observation decks), and 4 patrolling research sector 1. Any additional guards are appreciated and will be assigned where necessary.

Civilians are not to be allowed within a 1 km radius around site 79 under the pretense of environmental conservation efforts. Any civilian found within the 1 km perimeter will be asked to leave, and a class-A amnestic will be applied. If civilian refuses to leave even when threatened with legal repercussions, physical force has been authorized for use.

Guards are to be armed with foundation issued automatic weapons, loaded with overloaded stun bullets, made to produce up to 200,000 volts of electricity (~7x the max voltage of a standard issue stun gun) as this is the only known way of terminating an SCP-4084-A2 instance. Bullets are manufactured specially for containment of SCP-4084 and are produced in research sector 2 of site 79 by a select group of D-class personnel, due to the inherent possibility of electrocution. Guards should also always carry a standard issue stun baton, so that in the event of a weapon malfunction SCP-4084-A2 may be stunned until backup can arrive.

Due to SCP-4084's ability to cause an LK-Class "Species transmutation" end of the world event, its containment is to be considered a top priority, and any personnel found to be harboring an infection, now considered SCP-4084-A1, are to be terminated on sight. Any instance of SCP-4084-A2 is to be terminated without hesitation unless in research sector 1 of area 79, at which point specific instructions will be given for each instance.

Description: SCP-4084 is an approximately 4 x 4 x 4 m charcoal black cube made of microscopic nanobots (from now on referred to as SCP-4084-B), each measuring approximately 5μm in length, 2μm in height, and 2μm in width. Each nanobot is inscribed with a tiny "CR", presumed to be the manufacturer or creator. At the center of the cube is a small computer that has the ability to communicate with all instances of SCP-4084-B simultaneously (from now on referred to as SCP-4084-C). Due to an inability to retrieve the computer from within SCP-4084, it is unknown how it is programmed or what programs it contains.

SCP-4084 appears to be a fail-safe for humanity, created by "CR". Upon detecting changes in radiation levels, drastic changes in atmospheric pressure, or even the state of decay of the ozone, SCP-4084 will release SCP-4084-B from the densely packed cube and they will become active, attempting to infect any nearby humans. It is thought that "CR" created SCP-4084 in an attempt to save humanity from any "natural" world ending event including the complete destruction of the ozone or even nuclear war. It appears to do this by turning people into SCP-4084-A2, which are much more resilient than humans and can feed on nearly anything. It is thought that the detection of conditions and deployment of SCP-4084-B is controlled by SCP-4084-C, though how it could read these things through the densely packed cube is currently unknown, and attempts to intercept any wireless communication coming from or into SCP-4084-C have not drawn any results.

SCP-4084-B are, as previously stated, nanobots. Despite having a robot-like appearance and appearing on electromagnetic imaging, instances of SCP-4084-B are not comprised of any electronic parts, instead, they are comprised of an unknown biomatter. SCP-4084-B possess properties akin to those of a virus or parasite. Upon direct contact with even a single instance of SCP-4084-B, the subject will become infected, with SCP-4084-B inhabiting one or more of their cells like the DNA of a virus (At this point, the subject is to be given the designation SCP-4084-A1). SCP-4084-B will then lie dormant for exactly 30 minutes, at which point the subject will undergo what has been coined by researchers as transformation-ALPHA. After any transformation has been fully complete, the resulting entity is designated as SCP-4084-A2.

SCP-4084-A2 are the result of infection by SCP-4084-B and can take many different forms. They are made entirely of the same unknown biomatter as SCP-4084-B. except for the cavity in their chest that houses the "heart". Dissection of deceased SCP-4084-A2 instances reveals no apparent internal organs typically present in sentient creatures, nor any common bodily processes. It is theorized that the "heart" of SCP-4084-A2 being sustained is all that is required for its continued existence. Upon transformation completion, SCP-4084-A2 instances will immediately attack any nearby biomatter, excluding humans which it will attempt to infect, and any flora or fauna crucial to the survival of an ecosystem. Despite this apparent awareness of self-sustaining ecosystems, SCP-4084-A2 are not considered sapient. Once an SCP-4084-A2 instance has come into contact with any biomatter the entity will grab onto said biomatter by whatever means possible and move it to the heart. At the heart, the biomatter is seemingly consumed by the heart, and the creature is sustained. Testing has concluded that SCP-4084-A2 do seem to have an appetite that varies with the size and variety of SCP-4084-A2. The exact behavior and appearance of any given instance of SCP-4084-A2 depend on the transformation undergone by SCP-4084-A1, each transformation is detailed in test log 4084-A.

It has been deduced by researchers that a separate classification for the infected but not transformed subjects is necessary (designated SCP-4084-A1) due to incident 4084-2.

Discovery: SCP-4084 was brought to the foundation's attention after the collapse of an apparently unregistered and unknown weapons plant. Scraps found in the rubble describe the facility only as C███ R█████, hence the initials on SCP-4084-B. Certain monitors and posters were uncovered, all of which repeat the tagline "ensuring tomorrow, today". When the facility collapsed the only object found standing was what appeared to be a missile-like structure that housed SCP-4084. The missile was deconstructed in an attempt to make SCP-4084 more easy to contain. 4 D-class personnel made direct contact with SCP-4084-B, with the ensuing instances of SCP-4084-A2 killing ██ staff. All instances of SCP-4084-A2 were terminated through the use of heavy explosives, resulting in the death of a further ██ personnel. Current containment procedures were then devised, and site 79 was constructed around SCP-4084.
