Item #: SCP-4084
Item class: Euclid Keter (See incident report 4084-1)
Special containment procedures: SCP-4084 is to be contained in a cylindrical room with a radius of 7.5 m at Area 79, located in ████ forest in ████. In the middle of said room, there is to be a 5 x 5 x 5 m Hollow cube made of 50 cm thick reinforced concrete, inside of which SCP-4084 is to be held. The concrete cube will have a single access point consisting of a 30 x 30 cm hatch made of reinforced steel to provide access to the object for testing. The room itself should have only one entrance and one exit, and no more than 8 viewing windows made of bulletproof glass. Windows should not exceed 150 cm in length and 50 cm in height in order to decrease the risk of structural failure. SCP-4084 is to be contained in Area 79 indefinitely due to its immense weight.
At the exit of SCP-4084's containment cell is to be a clean room equipped with multiple forms of electromagnetic and X-ray imaging in order to detect any infection unknowingly passed on to personnel during sample retrieval. a minimum of 14 Armed guards are to be stationed at site 79 at any given time: 4 patrolling the exterior, 2 guarding the entrance, 4 patrolling the main body of the building (i.e. containment and observation decks), and 4 patrolling research sector 1. Any additional guards are appreciated and will be assigned where necessary.
Civilians are not to be allowed within a 1 km radius around site 79 under the pretense of environmental conservation efforts. Any civilian found within the 1 km perimeter will be asked to leave, and a class-A amnestic will be applied. If civilian refuses to leave even when threatened with legal repercussions, physical force has been authorized for use.
Guards are to be armed with foundation issued automatic weapons, loaded with overloaded stun bullets, made to produce up to 200,000 volts of electricity (~7x the max voltage of a standard issue stun gun) as this is the only known way of terminating an SCP-4084-A2 instance. Bullets are manufactured specially for containment of SCP-4084 and are produced in research sector 2 of site 79 by a select group of D-class personnel, due to the inherent possibility of electrocution. Guards should also always carry a standard issue stun baton, so that in the event of a weapon malfunction SCP-4084-A2 may be stunned until backup can arrive.
Due to SCP-4084's ability to cause an LK-Class "Species transmutation" end of the world event, its containment is to be considered a top priority, and any personnel found to be harboring an infection, now considered SCP-4084-A1, are to be terminated on sight. Any instance of SCP-4084-A2 is to be terminated without hesitation unless in research sector 1 of area 79, at which point specific instructions will be given for each instance.
Description: SCP-4084 is an approximately 4 x 4 x 4 m charcoal black cube made of microscopic nanobots (from now on referred to as SCP-4084-B), each measuring approximately 5μm in length, 2μm in height, and 2μm in width. Each nanobot is inscribed with a tiny "CR", presumed to be the manufacturer or creator. At the center of the cube is a small computer that has the ability to communicate with all instances of SCP-4084-B simultaneously (from now on referred to as SCP-4084-C). Due to an inability to retrieve the computer from within SCP-4084, it is unknown how it is programmed or what programs it contains.
SCP-4084 appears to be a fail-safe for humanity, created by "CR". Upon detecting changes in radiation levels, drastic changes in atmospheric pressure, or even the state of decay of the ozone, SCP-4084 will release SCP-4084-B from the densely packed cube and they will become active, attempting to infect any nearby humans. It is thought that "CR" created SCP-4084 in an attempt to save humanity from any "natural" world ending event including the complete destruction of the ozone or even nuclear war. It appears to do this by turning people into SCP-4084-A2, which are much more resilient than humans and can feed on nearly anything. It is thought that the detection of conditions and deployment of SCP-4084-B is controlled by SCP-4084-C, though how it could read these things through the densely packed cube is currently unknown, and attempts to intercept any wireless communication coming from or into SCP-4084-C have not drawn any results.
SCP-4084-B are, as previously stated, nanobots. Despite having a robot-like appearance and appearing on electromagnetic imaging, instances of SCP-4084-B are not comprised of any electronic parts, instead, they are comprised of an unknown biomatter. SCP-4084-B possess properties akin to those of a virus or parasite. Upon direct contact with even a single instance of SCP-4084-B, the subject will become infected, with SCP-4084-B inhabiting one or more of their cells like the DNA of a virus (At this point, the subject is to be given the designation SCP-4084-A1). SCP-4084-B will then lie dormant for exactly 30 minutes, at which point the subject will undergo what has been coined by researchers as transformation-ALPHA. After any transformation has been fully complete, the resulting entity is designated as SCP-4084-A2.
SCP-4084-A2 are the result of infection by SCP-4084-B and can take many different forms. They are made entirely of the same unknown biomatter as SCP-4084-B. except for the cavity in their chest that houses the "heart". Dissection of deceased SCP-4084-A2 instances reveals no apparent internal organs typically present in sentient creatures, nor any common bodily processes. It is theorized that the "heart" of SCP-4084-A2 being sustained is all that is required for its continued existence. Upon transformation completion, SCP-4084-A2 instances will immediately attack any nearby biomatter, excluding humans which it will attempt to infect, and any flora or fauna crucial to the survival of an ecosystem. Despite this apparent awareness of self-sustaining ecosystems, SCP-4084-A2 are not considered sapient. Once an SCP-4084-A2 instance has come into contact with any biomatter the entity will grab onto said biomatter by whatever means possible and move it to the heart. At the heart, the biomatter is seemingly consumed by the heart, and the creature is sustained. Testing has concluded that SCP-4084-A2 do seem to have an appetite that varies with the size and variety of SCP-4084-A2. The exact behavior and appearance of any given instance of SCP-4084-A2 depend on the transformation undergone by SCP-4084-A1, each transformation is detailed in test log 4084-A.
It has been deduced by researchers that a separate classification for the infected but not transformed subjects is necessary (designated SCP-4084-A1) due to incident 4084-2.
Discovery: SCP-4084 was brought to the foundation's attention after the collapse of an apparently unregistered and unknown weapons plant. Scraps found in the rubble describe the facility only as C███ R█████, hence the initials on SCP-4084-B. Certain monitors and posters were uncovered, all of which repeat the tagline "ensuring tomorrow, today". When the facility collapsed the only object found standing was what appeared to be a missile-like structure that housed SCP-4084. The missile was deconstructed in an attempt to make SCP-4084 more easy to contain. 4 D-class personnel made direct contact with SCP-4084-B, with the ensuing instances of SCP-4084-A2 killing ██ staff. All instances of SCP-4084-A2 were terminated through the use of heavy explosives, resulting in the death of a further ██ personnel. Current containment procedures were then devised, and site 79 was constructed around SCP-4084.
Test Log 4084-A: Transformations
Transformation test logs are color-coded as follows:
- Green: Base transformation
- Blue: Slight deviation from the norm, does not require extra containment precautions
- Red: Large deviation from the norm, usually requires additional or modified containment precautions
- Orange: Highly dangerous and/or destructive, considered Keter class objects due to their inability to be contained, and are to be terminated on sight upon occurrence during research unless given clear and specific instructions from research personnel
Transformation-ALPHA
Special conditions: None
Mutation process: After 30 minutes dormant, the now infected cell will cause a cancer-like series of cell mutations within the subject. The mutated cells do not reproduce through mitosis, as most normal cells would, rather they consume a neighboring cell, mutate it, and spit it back out. When the other cell is spat out it too becomes an identical infected cell, causing an exponential growth. When all normal human cells near any given cell are consumed, the cells will begin a rapid, slightly modified form of mitosis, where instead of DNA chromosomes being doubled and the extra pair going to the daughter cell, the daughter cell's DNA materializes after cytokinesis. Cells produced through this modified mitosis follow an isometric pattern, creating jagged, protruding structures along what used to be the subject's skin, stopping either when the entire body has been mutated or they reach a length of 30 cm. When the infection reaches the heart of the subject the mutation changes. When examined under an electron microscope, it can be observed that these cells appear to be stuck in an odd form of suspended animation, where they have released all energy stored inside them in an instant and become frozen, resulting in what appears to be a ball of pure energy of approximately the same shape as the heart of SCP-4084-A1, including any fatty buildups that may have been present.
Resulting SCP-4084-A2: A bipedal humanoid of the same height and build as the SCP-4084-A1 instance it mutated from. Isometric protrusions cover the outer layer and appear to be used as tentacles, in the sense that they are used to transport food to the "heart" of SCP-4084-A2. They are approximately 2x stronger than an average human in raw strength but poses the ability to break through any object short of bulletproof material. How it accomplishes this is currently unknown. SCP-4084-A2 is indestructible in most ways, only exterminated through the use of heavy duty explosives, which merely dismember the instance and render it immobile, or through the overloading of its heart.
Additional notes: due to the fact that Transformation-ALPHA occurs in a normal, unregulated environment, it is considered to be the "normal" or control transformation, and all subsequent transformations are to be compared to Transformation-Alpha.
Transformation-BETA
Special conditions: Temperate and moist, lots of foliage
Mutation process: Identical to Transformation-ALPHA.
Resulting SCP-4084-A2: identical to Transformation-ALPHA with the addition of an appendage grown out of the lower spinal area, resembling the tail of a primate. SCP-4084-A2 instances that have undergone this transformation prefer to move around using their "tail", either swinging from objects or simply grabbing on to them to help it move along.
Additional notes: early hypothesis among researchers states that SCP-4084-A2 have the ability to adapt to the environment in which they mutate, suggesting whoever created these creatures intended for them to evolve and thus live indefinitely on earth, adapting to any global changes.
Transformation-OMEGA
Special conditions: Dry heat, little foliage aside from cacti
Mutation process: Identical to Transformation-ALPHA until the infection reaches the shoulders, at which point two large (75 cm on average) isometric protrusions jut out of the shoulder blades through the same process as the tentacles on ALPHA. Once fully formed, they will become hard and rigid, able to withstand all force short of a nuclear warhead. The added weight of these protrusions seems to force the resulting SCP-4084-A2 instance to adopt quadrupedal locomotion as its primary form of movement. A similar process then happens over the entirety of both arms of SCP-4084-A1, with the outer layer hardening. Additionally, the fingers of SCP-4084-A1 mutate to become extremely sharp and long, similar to the claws of common burrowing mammals.
Resulting SCP-4084-A2: A quadrupedal humanoid with an insatiable desire to dig and escape. Unlike most other SCP-4084-A2 instances, OMEGA transformations have a much stronger flight instinct, and would rather run away and escape then fight head-on, though if threated they will attack. They have similar strength to ALPHA transformations, but due to the strength of their claws, they are able to dig through anything short of bedrock.
Modified containment procedures: It is strongly suggested that any OMEGA instances be terminated ASAP. However if for whatever reason an OMEGA needs to be kept, any OMEGA instances kept for research must be under 24/7 surveillance by at least 2 guards, and its holding cell is to be constructed of the most durable substance on hand, preferably bedrock. If the given requirements cannot be met at the time of the experiment, it is strictly forbidden to keep OMEGA instances around for any longer than necessary due to the major risk of a containment breach.
Additional notes: Damn these things can be powerful, I wonder if their creator understood what they were doing - Researcher ███████
Transformation-DELTA
Special Conditions: Cold (Below 0 Celsius) and barren, simulated snow present
Mutation process: similar to Transformation-ALPHA, with the exception of the arms and legs, and the isometric protrusions, which are not present in Transformation-DELTA. Instead, the same modified mitosis is used to create a thick, insulating layer around the entirety of SCP-4084-A2's body, 5cm - 10cm thick. The specific thickness of the insulating layer appears to be directly reflective of the temperature in which the transformation happens. The further below 0 Celsius the temperature is, the thicker the layer becomes. The arms and legs of SCP-4084-A1 become significantly thicker, and in turn, the torso is slightly rearranged to accommodate quadrupedal locomotion. The arms and legs also form into durable "paws", at which point sharp, pointed appendages develop over the fingers, much like Transformation-OMEGA.
Resulting SCP-4084-A2: A quadrupedal entity with a likeness to members of the Ursidae family. DELTA instances are extremely aggressive to non-essential organic life, much like other transformations, however, they don't seem to have quite the same destructive tendencies. DELTA instances have been seen to give up after discovering the impossibility of access to staff personnel. They also appear to lack the destructive capabilities of other clawed instances, as they are unable to penetrate standard bulletproof materials. Due to the lack of the tentacles present in other instances, DELTA instances seem to have a functioning mouth and esophagus that leads directly into its heart with which it uses to ingest sustenance.
Additional notes: This all but confirms previous hypotheses and also shows that whoever made SCP-4084 likely modeled SCP-4084-A2 off of pre-existing life.
Transformation-LAMBDA
Special conditions: Extreme heat, "wasteland" conditions
Mutation process: up until all cells in SCP-4084-A1 have been converted, LAMBDA transformations appear to transform identically to ALPHA instances, only lacking isometric protrusions. However. once all cells are converted, they appear to detach from each other in small clumps, ranging in size from about 1cm in diameter to 5cm in diameter. The clumps of cells then undergo further mutation using the modified mitosis present in other transformations and sprout a variety of additional appendages including but not limited to: up to 8 long-segmented legs, 2-5 eyes, compound eyes, wings, antennae, pincers, stingers (though without the venom present in venomous creatures currently alive), and even additional body segments. Each lump also generates its own heart.
Resulting SCP-4084-A2: It is fairly obvious that these instances of SCP-4084-A2 are what we call bugs. A large amount of variation makes them difficult to categorize, but for all intense and purposes, they are bugs. This form seems to be quite effective in passing on SCP-4084-B and was the cause of incident 4084-3 (see incident report 4084-3). LAMBDA instances have a disproportionate appetite for their size, and instances of a similar make will often team up to consume large organic apex predators. Despite their size, LAMBDA instances are one of the most resilient forms of SCP-4084-A2 and require the use of protocol 4084-BUGZAPPER in order to be terminated.
Modified containment procedures: Any tests regarding LAMBDA instances must be carried out in test chambers modified to be coated with a heavily conductive metal, and a modified Tesla coil placed on in the center of all 4 walls, the ceiling, and the floor to promote conduction through the air.
Additional notes: protocol 4084-BUGZAPPER is executed by a D-class personnel firing an overloaded bullet into the chamber housing the LAMBDA instances, conducting the full 200,000 volts throughout the chamber. Due to the size of LAMBDA instances posing a serious threat to containment, the D-class personnel will be placed in the chamber at the same time as the D-class personnel that is to be transformed by SCP-4084-B.
Transformation-ZETA
Special conditions: vacuum chamber
Mutation process: Unknown
Resulting SCP-4084-A2: a large ███ ████. ███ ZETA instances █████ ███ ████ █████ ███ ███ ██████ ███ █████████ ██████ ██████ █████ ████ and cannot be contained. ████ █████ █████ ████ █████████████ ████████ █████ ███████ █████Can't ██ ████. ███████████████████ ███ without ██████. ██ ████ █████ ██████ █████ ████████ ████ unstoppable. ████ █████ ███ █████ ████ deaths █████ █████ ██████████ ███ ██ ███████ ██████ ██.
Modified containment procedure: Containment impossible
Additional notes: refer to incident report 4084-1, testing is to cease immediately upon the direction of the O5 council.
Incident Log 4084-1: Event Zeta
The following is a series of files pertaining event Zeta. Commentary provided by Dr. Maddison, lead researcher at Area 79 and one of 4 on site survivors of event Zeta.
Transcription of events recorded by the late Mikael Robertson, captain of task force orange-dawn
Mikael: We need to spread, establishing the location of initial contact is paramount to our success.
Callsign-Elis: You still haven't actually told us what the plan is here, we just gonna shoot this thing?
Mikael: Not much else we can do. Control said this ammunition was some kinda suped up tazer or something, we just have to trust them.
Task for orange-dawn is seen spreading throughout the edge of the village facing the forest which contains Area 79. Mikael is seen taking post on the southern-most point, other operatives are out of view.
Item #: SCP-5XXX
Item Class: Keter
Special containment procedures: SCP-5XXX has been deemed impossible to physically contain. Instead, containment should focus on identifying instances of SCP-5XXX and securing the area surrounding the instance. A group of clearance level 3 researchers are to monitor local news from all towns located in Finland, Sweden, and Norway, with a population of less than 5,000 people, for a series of unexplained disappearances, or other "unexplainable" events. These disappearances usually happen to one particular family, or people living together in an enclosed area. When such an event is found, one (1) 5XXX-recon agent is to be planted in the town as close as possible to the location of the event. If housing cannot be found within adequate proximity of the location, the agent is instead to be planted in any investigations conducted surrounding the events. If multiple such investigations are happening simultaneously the assignment of one (1) additional agent to each investigation has been authorized, under the guise of an independent investigator from the secret service of the country. If the agent(s) conclude that the culprit of the event is an SCP-5XXX manifestation they are to alert the foundation immediately. A 5XXX-containment squad is to be sent to the location of the event to execute 5XXX-"Proof of reality", and to dispatch any instances of SCP-5XXX-1. A guide to both identifying SCP-5XXX manifestations and executing 5XXX-"Proof of reality" can be found in attached documents.
Description: SCP-5XXX is an approximately 2m x 2m cloud of water vapor, spinal fluid, blood plasma, and urine. The exact coloration of the cloud can vary from pure white to a dull yellow based on the concentration of urine in the cloud. Upon coming in contact with any living organism the organism in question will immediately cease to exist. When an organism disappears, the cloud will grow proportionally to the matter of the organism. Testing has shown that the growth of the entity is equal to the space taken up by the organism if it was liquified and then turned into steam. The only criteria for what can be absorbed by the cloud seems to be that the organism was created through the natural process of reproduction typical to that organism.
