Item #: SCP-XXXX
Object Class: I am not sure what it is. It's not dangerous in the least, but it doesn't exactly stay boxed. Euclid maybe? Keter feels like overkill, but… I honestly don't know.
Special Containment Procedures: The music-sharing websites of Bandcamp and Soundcloud shall be constantly monitored by Foundation webcrawlers for heartbeat.wav, heartbeats.wav, or heart_beat.wav. Other websites that can upload sound bytes should be monitored at a period of once every three months failing an upload on the two known websites. New uploading websites should be immediately monitored for their first month of existence. If a heartbeat file is found, the new website will have constant monitors at the same level of Bandcamp and Soundcloud. The file will be overwritten with a generic heartbeat sound of the same length to hide its anomalous properties.
A physical CD will be held at [LOCATION] in the anomalous objects section, labeled SCP-XXXX. The physical CD contains the same properties as the digital file. Testing can proceed with one Level-2 researcher, with the permission of Dr. [NAME]. [the overseer of it]
Description: A sound file consisting of two minutes and sixteen seconds uploaded to various music-sharing websites, SCP-XXXX is anomalous in that it plays the heartbeat of the listener. Multiple listeners have the sound file pick only one heartbeat to play for everyone listening. Repeated sessions of playing the sound file result only in a new pattern following the listener's heartbeat. Multiple listeners and repeated plays have a new heartbeat chosen each time. Occasionally, without pattern, random noises may be scattered in the file: heavy thumps, hard breathing, and indistinct whispers. This can often startle people and cause their heartbeat - and consequently the heartbeat in the sound file - to speed up. Testing has shown, thus far, that individuals with a heart condition do not end up hearing the non-heartbeat noises.
Addendum XXXX-A: After three years of only being on Soundcloud, and two years of no uploads, a heartbeat.wav file was found by chance by a Foundation agent while browsing Bandcamp. A disinformation campaign and pseudoscience [i know i have to make that professional and particular]. Procedures have been updated to fit this new finding.
Addendum XXXX-B: A new music-uploading website had an account typically associated with the uploader of SCP-XXXX. The account was able to quickly be shut down before the file was ever uploaded, but containment procedures reflect this new discovery.
