Special Containment Procedures:
SCP-XXXX is to be contained in a 40cm x 40cm x 80cm steel safe.* Its entry code is to be changed at random intervals at each new day. New entry codes are to be reported back to the respective personnel who controls and who comes into contact with the safe. "Safe-Keepers" must have a clearance level equal to or greater than three. Each entry code is a series of six digits that locks the safe. Each digit is not to be a repeat of the previous digit. No digit can be repeated more than twice in a code. An example of a correct entry code would be "172378". A few examples of an incorrect entry code include, but are not limited too, "118374", "181921" and "382944". An entry code should not mimic any example of other codes used by the foundation or any codes used by other personnel for whatever reason.

*Following new research, SCP-XXXX is now to be contained within a steel safe within another sound proof safe with the same lock regulations. "Safe keepers" must be clearance level four or greater. Safe keepers should wear any substance that blocks sounds whilst handling SCP-XXXX. SCP-XXXX should be handled with extreme care.

Description:
SCP-XXXX is a 20cm x 20cm x 40cm black, leather top hat with a golden ribbon around the bottom rim of the top part of the hat. On its own, SCP-XXXX seems to be completely normal with no anomalous properties. Note: SCP-XXXX now appears to be able to trick subjects into wearing it. See Incident SCP-XXXX-01. However, once that hat is worn by a sentient being, properties begin to show.

The hat was found in the prison of a circus murderer and rapist named ████ █████. The prison, located in ███████, █████ reported the hat to the government after reports of murder and other crimes in the prison became at an all time high after the hat was found by a prisoner named ████ ███████ and shared amongst gangs. The government took a look at dead bodies and performed experiments on them and found evidence of ████████ in the █████.

The government reported the hat to the foundation and the hat was contained on the ██/██/1958.

The properties of SCP-XXXX start off slowly and rapidly progress. If SCP-XXXX is worn on a sentient being for ten minutes, the being will start to show signs of confusion, although it should be mentioned sometimes beings can also show signs of depression, aggression, agitation, fear or withdrawal. If that hat is worn for another ten minutes, symptoms of the properties intensify along with new urges including the urge to murder and/or rape. Tests performed on subjects after wearing of SCP-XXXX reveal these urges may be caused by alteration of the ████ gene, along with changes to the ████████ in the brain. Every ten minutes symptoms appear to become worse and worse until on the 60th minute new symptoms begin to show. These new symptoms are permanent, unlike the others, which could be removed after exposure to the SCP by taking it off for double the time worn. These new symptoms include memory loss, death of cells in the brain, strokes, multiple brain tumours etc. After around twenty more minutes of exposure, subjects are usually found dead or brain-dead. The urges typically subside at the 60th minute. Despite causing brain tumours, no analysed matter in the hat has been known to be a carcinogen. It is unknown how the tumours form at the time of writing.

Recently, SCP-XXXX has shown new psychological affects which have deemed it to have new containment procedures and have it reclassified to Euclid. Personnel on the site report feeling a desire to wear the hat when close. If watching the hat, the subject may, somehow, have memories of wearing the hat and "just how fun it was…". Not only that, but urges have increased massively and at least three personnel have died to other personnel wearing the hat. Names of the three personnel include ████ █████, █████ ███████ and ████ █████████.

Experiment SCP-XXXX-01:
Experiments were performed on a D-Class who had worn the hat for forty minutes with high levels of both murder and rape urges. After being killed via [REDACTED], surgeons examined the body to find alterations of the ████ gene and changes to the ████████ in the brain.

Incident SCP-XXXX-01:
A personnel by the name of ████ █████ reported feeling a desire to wear the hat and told higher personnel that they had remembered "just how fun it was to wear that hat." After being told no, they were able to wear anyway due to low security caused by [REDACTED] at the time. After a common period time for the urges to occur, ████ █████ was responsible for the deaths of █████ ███████ and ████ █████████. ████ █████ themselves were shot by guards.
