Item #: SCP-5071
Object Class: Safe Euclid Keter
Special Containment Procedures: SCP-5701 is to be contained in a sealed plexiglass box in a vault no less than -20°C (-4°F).
If temperature rises above -20°C or the plexiglass box has been moved or taken terminate all known cases of SCP-5071-2 and all scientists and D-class personnel that have had contact with any cases of SCP-5071-2 or have entered the vault containing SCP-5071.
Any personnel acting strangely or showing symptoms of infection by SCP-5071-1 after such an event are to be quarantined. If they exhibit resistance they are to be terminated immediately, and all those who have had contact with them are to be quarantined and examined before returning to work.
Description: SCP-5071s true appearance is unknown as its appearance varies by person. However, it always appears within the dimensions of a five inch by five inch by five inch cube. Its appearance is always something desired by the person who sees it such as a precious gem, or lost family heirloom. Upon approaching within five feet of SCP-5071 it will make a hissing sound, releasing large amounts of viral entities known as SCP-5071-1. A person infected by SCP-5071-1 is known as SCP-5071-2.
48 hours after being infected by SCP-5071-1, SCP-5071-2 will experience minor headaches, and will be more likely to make rash, erratic, and unusual decisions, such as quitting their job, or impulsively purchasing items they will have no use for.
72 hours after infection SCP-5071-2 will experience stronger headaches, frequent mood swings, and is likely to make incredibly rash decisions without warning, such as randomly attacking a passerby, or driving recklessly without care to who they might harm.
96 hours after infection SCP-5071-2 is completely under the control of SCP-5071. SCP-5071-2 looses the ability to speak, and seems to no longer feel pain or express emotion. SCP-5071-2 will no longer eat, drink, or sleep and will die of dehydration within days.
After death of SCP-5071-2 begins to seize and shriek. It is currently unknown how they make this sound despite losing the ability to vocalize.
Three minuets and thirty eight seconds after death SCP-5071-2 becomes SCP-5071-3. SCP-5071-3 functions as a husk or shell for SCP-5071. SCP-5071-3 is controlled by SCP-5071. SCP-5071 seems to feed on those that SCP-5071-3 kills, but it is unknown how it draws sustenance from the kill. SCP-5071-3 will attempt to infect others when SCP-5071 has been fed adequately, SCP-5071-3 will begin attempting to infect others with SCP-5071-1 until SCP-5071 needs to feed again. No known cases of SCP-5071-2, or SCP-5071-3, currently exist.
Addendum: There have been many attempts to terminate SCP-5071, however none have been successful as those who come into contact with SCP-5071 believe it is too precious to destroy, and would rather die than allow for its destruction. Upon leaving the vicinity of SCP-5071, they will no longer feel unable to destroy it, however upon coming into contact with SCP-5071 again they no longer feel as if they could destroy it.
