Containment Class:
euclid
SCP-5000-2 and SCP-5000-1
Special Containment Procedures: Due to SCP-5000 being in an anomalous location accessed by SCP-5000-3-A, Site-5000 was constructed around it. Only personnel with level Four access are permitted to open the door to the containment area. Access into SCP-5000-3 (for scientific research) is limited to D-Class personnel only, due to the inability to return after entering (see Expedition I).
Description:
SCP-5000 is a mycelial growth inhabiting the soil of SCP-5000-2 (Seen above) and exhibits behavior that may be classified as sentient. The primary purpose of SCP-5000 is to lure, incapacitate and feed on its prey. SCP-5000 lures its prey using SCP-5000-4, SCP-5000 incapacitates its prey with SCP-5000-1. SCP-5000 grows and encapsulates the remains of the prey, this begins the digestive process. SCP-5000 then dissolves all soft tissue, leaving only the skeletal structure (See Expedition II).
SCP-5000 converts skeletal structure into SCP-5000-1, a neurotoxic spore, it accumulates inside the leftover pocket of remains and is ejected when the pocket eventually ruptures. SCP-5000-1 utilizes the respiratory system to attack the neurological system. Subjects affected exhibited labored breathing and degraded motor coordination quickly followed by death.
SCP-5000-2 is a contemporary human settlement, considering the known environment no life is expected to be found. The town is still supplied by electricity from an unknown source. Other than this and the presence of SCP-5000-1 and SCP-5000, SCP-5000-2 is non-anomalous.
SCP-5000-3-A is a small circular stretch of forest 80.5Km (50Mi) away from ██████,██. When entered Subjects report a sudden instance of fog and a small clearing in which they encounter SCP-5000-2. Bark sample from SCP-5000-3-A was sent for testing to Site-104, tests concluded that cells from the bark are not plant cells, but fungal concluding that SCP-5000-3-A's trees are mushrooms. SCP-5000-3-A has an altered version of SCP-5000-1 referred to as SCP-5000-3-B.
SCP-5000-3-B much like SCP-5000-1, is a spore emitting from the trunks of the trees in SCP-5000-3-A. Inhalation of SCP-5000-3-B triggers a psycho-biochemical and/or psycho-dynamic optical hallucination referred to as SCP-5000-4.
Artist's rendition of SCP-5000-4
SCP-5000-4 presents itself at night or in times of low visibility, in a form unique to each subject(e.g. A small child, animal, or family member). SCP-5000-4 lures subjects towards SCP-5000-3-A, trapping the subject in SCP-5000-2.
Expedition I
Subject: D-5378
Procedure:
A digital recording device was sent through SCP 5000-3, directly linked to Site-5000 with the use of an EMC coaxial cable. The equipment was manually transported by D-5378.
Results:
Video contact was sustained for 4.48 minutes, audio continued for 1.01 minutes. Audio data determined Subject suffered an immediate respiratory event and is considered deceased. The subject's initial attempt to cross back to Site 5000 was prevented by their inability to find a clear return point. Audio and video loss was caused by the severing of the coaxial cable. Later studies determined cable was dissolved by an unknown acidic solution.
Analysis:
Video and audio data determined the existence of SCP-5000-2 (Seen above). An undetermined element in the atmosphere incapacitates unprotected lifeforms. Further analysis should include atmospheric and environmental measuring devices with an up-armored ECM coaxial cable. D-Class personnel should be outfitted with environmental PPE to maximize the data collection process.
Expedition II
Subjects: D-8957, D-8812, D-8589
Procedure:
An Autonomous Atmospheric/Environmental Measurement Array (AAEMA) was sent through SCP-5000-3, guided by D-Class personnel. An up-armored ECM coaxial cable connected the AAEMA to Site 5000 data servers.
Results:
Atmosphere contains viable elements for human survival, with ample Nitrogen and Oxygen. Relative Humidity levels fluctuated between 92.67 and 97.45%. Temperatures fluctuated between 20.57C-22.47C (69.02F-72.45F). Additionally, a dense fog that permeates the environment contains high levels of a neurotoxic spore. Video data was sustained for 97.15 minutes, audio continued for 3.23 minutes. The HEPA breathing apparatus, provided to Subjects, delayed but did not prevent inhalation of the neurotoxic spores. Subjects each succumbed to a fatal respiratory event within the first 30 to 45 minutes. Subsequently, 25 to 30 minutes after death, white mycelium grew around the bodies of D-8957, D-8812, and D-8589. AAEMA incised one growth pile, inside was the skeletal structure and clothing of D-5378, AAEMA detected high levels of SCP-5000-1 emitting from the growth pile. All data sent to Site-██ for further research. Future expeditions should outfit D-Class personnel with Class-A Environmental Hazard Suits (Encapsulated) with Self-Contained Breathing Apparatus (SCBA) to maximize the data collection process.
