Lambda Fairy's Sexy Sandbox

Item #: SCP-XXX

Object Class: Safe

Special Containment Procedures: SCP-XXX is stored in a standard Safe-class locker at Site-19. The lid and body must be kept separate while not in use. To prevent confusion, other containers in use at Site-19 should not be colored blue.

Description: SCP-XXX is a 1.2 L transparent plastic container, physically identical to those produced by Sistema Plastics. Its lid is attached to the body via a pair of blue locking clips, and may be removed and re-attached freely.

The anomalous effect of SCP-XXX manifests when food is placed in the container and the lid is clipped on. One or more whole insects is embedded into each food item, in a way that is not visible to a casual observer. This transformation is instantaneous; when weighed, SCP-XXX undergoes an immediate change in mass. Items not commonly considered food are not affected, as well as particles smaller than 2 mm diameter or liquids such as milk or soup. (revised 2018-12-26; see Incident Log XXX-3)

All recovered insects have been found to be sterile, non-toxic, and dead. Testing on D-Class shows no adverse effects on consumption, other than the expected feeling of disgust.

A comprehensive list of results have been derived through experimentation, with no systematic pattern found thus far. It is theorized that rather than following a consistent methodology, SCP-XXX chooses the species of insect most likely to provoke an emotional response from those observing it. That many of the insects found have been of common pest species, along with the deliberate, artistic nature of the product, support this hypothesis.

Researcher: Riven Mercer

Subject: 1 Moro Gold candy bar, unopened
Result: Wrapper remains sealed. Candy appears unmodified, except with the constituent biscuit pieces replaced by aphids (Aphis pomi).

Subject: 500 g long grain rice, uncooked
Result: Approximately 2% of grains are substituted with housefly maggots (Musca domestica).

Subject: 500 g long grain rice, cooked
Result: Approximately 2% of grains are substituted with housefly maggots (Musca domestica). Proteins in the recovered specimens are denatured in a manner consistent with that of cooking.

Subject: 10 Oreo biscuits
Result: Each biscuit has 3-5 New Zealand blackflies (Austrosimulium australense) embedded in its surface. Specimens are placed in a checker-board pattern, with each insect perpendicular to those next to it.

Subject: 1 lemon
Result: Interior of the fruit contains five honeypot ants (Camponotus inflatus), displacing all of the seeds and most of the flesh.

Subject: 1 L distilled water
Result: 14 crane flies (Hudsonia heterogama) on the surface of the water, arranged in the shape of two interlocking heart symbols.

Subject: 500 g broccoli, cut and cooked
Result: Approximately 20 ladybird beetles (Coccinella magnifica) are embedded in each piece, arranged in the shape of a question mark.

Subject: 1 Granny Smith apple
Result: Three Lustrous Copper butterflies (Lycaena cupreus) embedded in the fruit, arranged in a triangle pattern. Wing patterns appear to spell English text.

Addendum XXX-2: On 2019-02-15, Mercer was transferred to SCP-████. Further testing is to be performed by their assistant, Daphne Fourier.

Subject: Box of Cadbury Roses chocolate candy, unopened, 450 g
Result: Wrapper remains sealed. Each candy is hollowed out, with the filling replaced with a yellow-legged hornet (Vespa velutina). Approximately 15% of specimens are living.
