Item #: SCP-5412
Object Class: Safe Thaumiel
Special containment procedures:
All instances of SCP-5412 are to be secured within individual high value storage lockers, in the west wing of Site 9. Only members of personnel with Clearance Level 3 or higher may retrieve instances of SCP-5412, although strictly for research purposes.
Supervisors of experiments involving SCP-5412 may only view through a live video feed, and test subjects
Description:
SCP-5412 is a 9cm long, silver laser pointer. SCP-5412 appears and functions much like an ordinary laser pointer; when the small, circular button on the side of SCP-5412 is pressed, it emits a low intensity, red laser, which produces a precise ‘dot’, henceforth referred to as SCP-5412-1. SCP-5412-1 remains for as long as the button on SCP-5412 remains pressed.
To date, 17 instances of SCP-5412 have been discovered by the foundation, with efforts to locate more, ongoing. All located instances of SCP-5412 were found in identical, black plastic containers, with an illustration of SCP-5412 on the top of this container. In addition to the illustration, the words “Dr. Wondertainment’s Riveting Laser Pointer™”, in bold, red letters are printed on the sides of the container. Within this container, alongside SCP-5412, is a small pamphlet, containing instructions on how to use it (see addendum 5412-1).
When any creature, other than the user of SCP-5412, directly sees SCP-5412-1, they will feel the uncontrollable urge to chase and to secure SCP-5412-1. A creature effected by SCP-5412-1 appears to lose all concern for their surroundings and even their own safety. Even if this creature can no longer see SCP-5412-1, as long as SCP-5412-1 is still shining, they will continue to be effected by it. The effect appears to cease, completely, on all effected individuals as soon as SCP-5412-1 no longer shines. Subjects with a history of alcohol or substance abuse, tend to be effected by SCP-5412 to a greater extent than most others. The effect also increases on an individual, relative to the length of time that they are exposed to it.
Addendum 5412-1:

Experiment 5412-1:
Test subject(s): Dr Willow (volunteer)
Summary: Once SCP-5412-1 had been seen by Dr Willow, it was moved around the testing facility quickly, and so Dr Willow began to pursue it. Although Dr Willow showed no signs of slowing, even after 5 hours, once SCP-5412 was turned off he collapsed due to
For 5 continuous hours, Dr Willow chased SCP-5412-1 throughout the testing facility. Once the experiment had ended, he collapsed due to exhaustion and fatigue, although recovered fully after sleeping for 10 hours.
Experiment 5412-2:
Test subject(s): Dr Willow (volunteer)
Summary: SCP-5412-1 was projected onto the ceiling on the testing facility. Once Dr Willow saw it, he proceeded to continuously jump upwards for 7 hours, without break. After this length of time, Dr Willow collapsed due to fatigue, although was able to fully recover after a day of rest.
Experiment 5412-4:
Test subject(s): Dr Willow (volunteer)
Summary: SCP-5412-1 was projected directly onto the wall of the testing facility, and was remotely fixed in place. Upon seeing SCP-5412-1, Dr Willow instantly pressed his hands against it. When he was unable to capture SCP-5412-1, he continued to attempt to cover it, repeatedly, for 1 hour, until the experiment was concluded.
Experiment 5412-7:
Test subject(s): Dr Willow (volunteer), Dr ████ (assistant)
Summary: Dr ████ aimed SCP-5412-1 directly onto the chest of Dr Willow, and continued to do so over the course of the experiment. Dr Willow attempted to catch SCP-5412-1 from his own body, causing severe bruising and scratches. Although Dr Willow showed no signs of stopping, the experiment was concluded after only 15 minutes, due to Dr ████ being too disturbed to continue.
Note: A reminder that, for any experiment in which physical harm to the test subjects is a distinct possibility, D-Class personnel are available. Also, do not feel the need to conduct all experiments on yourself, Adam. - Dr Mandalore, Director of Site 9.
Experiment 5412-12:
Test subject(s): Dr Willow (volunteer)
Summary: Dr Willow was shown SCP-5412-1, before forcibly moved into an isolated containment cell, from which SCP-5412-1 was not visible. Whilst being moved, Dr Willow injured 2 junior researchers, and 3 members of Site 9 security. Once locked inside the containment cell, Dr Willow immediately entered a panicked state, pushing himself into the corners whilst speaking incoherently. Dr Willow remained in this state for 6 hours, until SCP-5412 was turned off.
A psychological analysis showed no lasting negative effects were evident, apart from an unusual desire to see SCP-5412-1 again.
Experiment 5412-13:
Test subject(s): Dr Willow (volunteer)
Summary: Dr Willow was placed within a testing chamber, divided into halves by a fully transparent plain of blast proof glass. SCP-5412-1 was shown to Dr Willow on the opposite wall, which was inaccessible due to the glass. Dr Willow attempted to break through the glass for almost 30 minutes, before the experiment was concluded.
In his attempts to reach SCP-5412-1, Dr Willow fractured all metacarpal bones in his right hand, and 3 in his left. He also fractured both his left and right ulna and radius bones, in addition to dislocating his right shoulder. Despite these injuries, Dr Willow was still enthusiastic about being a test subject for future experiments.
Note: Due to the high probability of memetic influence, a psychological assessment of Dr Willow is strongly recommended.
Interview log 5412-1:
Interviewer: Dr Geoffrey Mandalore
Interviewee: Dr Adam Willow[BEGIN LOG]
Dr Mandalore: Good evening, Adam.
Dr Willow: (Extremely Jovial) How do you do, Doctor?
Dr Mandalore: I‘m fine, thank you for asking. I have been reviewing the progress made with SCP-5412 and—
Dr Willow: Indeed, Doctor. I feel that my team and I have been making exuberant progress in cracking the case of this anomaly!
Dr Mandalore: Yes, well, according to this here document you have been the only member of your team to act as a test subject on SCP-5412. Why do you feel the need to—
Dr Willow: I thought that the answer to such a question would be obvious to a man of your status. After all, what sort of a researcher would I be if I did not lead by example? My team needs to know that I am dependable by leading the way into the unknown.
Dr Mandalore: I appreciate that fact, but you have continued to subject yourself to these experiments, even after facing a serious injury. You could easily request a D-Class or two to act as test subjects. Also, could you please stop interru—
Dr Willow: But, Doctor, such sacrifices are necessary for achieving results. How could I entrust this crucial work to anyone but myself?
Dr Mandalore: No, Adam. You are being entirely self destructive. What about these experiments make it necessary that you, yourself, do it? As far as I am aware, SCP-5412 causes you to lose all control of yourself, so a D-Class would be just as effective.
Dr Willow: (agitated) A random D-Class could not possibly achieve the same. I am the only one capable of achieving this breakthrough.
Dr Mandalore: Tell me, what exactly is it that you believe you are going to discover by performing further tests with SCP-5412? Nothing has yet been made apparent in these experiment logs other than what we already know.
Dr Willow: Doctor, I feel that with each test that I participate in, I am growing closer to that light. If you just give me one more chance, I swear that I will be able to catch it!
Dr Mandalore: Are you saying that you believe SCP-5412-1, a beam of light, can be physically captured?
Dr Willow: That is exactly right, Doctor. Having spent time with SCP-5412, I know that it can be caught. With just a little more time, I will be able to solve this SCP!
Dr Mandalore: Right… Adam, you are clearly under the influence of some cognitohazardous effect of SCP-5412-1 and—
Dr Willow: (Visibly Agitated) Are you seriously going to claim that this is not a theory worth pursuing? Who are you to say that such a concept is not possible? This entire foundation is built around impossibilities!
Dr Mandalore: The group responsible for the creation of SCP-5412 is not one that puts thought into the purpose of their creations. They spread spread chaos through their use, and you have been a victim of this.
Dr Willow: (Pleading) Doctor Mandalore, please. Just let me See it again. Just one final test. If I do not prove my theory, then so be it, but please allow me to see it again.
Dr Mandalore: I am concluding this here. You will be amnesticised of your involvement with SCP-5412, and will no longer be responsible for it in any way. I am truly sorry that it has come to this.
[END LOG]
Note: Dr Willow resisted amnesticisation for over 20 minutes, until he was sedated. Post amnestication, Dr Willow showed no interest in SCP-5412 and was assigned to research on SCP-████.
Experiment 5412-13:
Test subject(s): D-84551
Summary:Similar to experiment 5412-1, SCP-5412-1 was projected onto the wall of the testing cell, and was constantly being moved for the duration of the experiment. The D-Class chased SCP-5412-1 for 9 hours and 14 minutes before collapsing due to a cardiac arrest. He was unable to be resuscitated.
Experiment 5412-15:
Test subject(s): D-84572
Summary: Similar to experiment 5412-2, SCP-5412-1 was projected onto the ceiling of the testing cell. The D-Class saw SCP-5412-1 and continued to jump upwards for 35 hours and 40 minutes before collapsing due to fatigue. At this point SCP-5412 was deactivated.
Once he regained consciousness, the D-Class admitted to wanting to see SCP-5412-1 again. He was promptly amnesticised and reassigned to SCP-███.
Experiment 5412-18:
Test subject(s): D-84603 (03), D-84604 (04) and D-84605 (05)
Summary: 03 aimed SCP-5412-1 directly onto the chest of 04, similar to experiment 5412-7. As soon as he saw it, 05 immediately attacked SCP-5412-1, and thus 04. 04 at first resisted, although once he saw SCP-5412-1, joined 05 in attacking it, and thus himself. During this, 04 did not appear to feel pain or express emotion in any way, nor did 05.
After 5 minutes, 03 deactivated SCP-5412, against instructions. 04 immediately began recoiling in pain, and 05 began apologising for his actions. When instructed, 03 directed SCP-5412-1 onto the chest of 05, who began attacking it, damaging himself. When 04 saw SCP-5412-1 on 05, he immediately also began to attack SCP-5412-1
Experiment 5412-25:
Test subject(s): SCP-682
Summary: Once the acid was removed from the containment chamber of SCP-682, SCP-5412-1 was projected onto the wall. SCP-682 reacted to this, attempting to attack SCP-5412-1. Even when the exit to the containment chamber was held open for exactly 1 minute, SCP-682 did not direct its attention away from SCP-5412-1. However, due to the increasing intensity of SCP-682's attacks against SCP-5412-1, the experiment was concluded after 20 minutes as soon as significant structural damage was reported.
Addendum 5412-2:
During experiment 5412-25, SCP-5412 has been shown to be an effective method of containment for a Keter class SCP and so may be an option for long term containment for SCP-682, as well as many other dangerous SCPs. Of course, due to potential damage caused by SCPs attempting to attack SCP-5412-1, increased structural strengthening may be required, although that is only in the case of some SCPs and is a worthwhile investment. Reclassification of SCP-5412 to Thaumiel has been requested.
Dr. ████████
While it is true that SCP-5412 may be useful for containment, dangerous SCPs should definitely not be overexposed to it. If a high risk SCP, such as 682, became influenced by SCP-5412 in the same way as Dr. Adam Willow, it could potentially become far more dangerous than it already is. Additionally, it is a very poor idea to encourage over reliance on a single method of containment as, should it cease to funky //
