Rumtifusel SCP

Item #: SCP-XXXX

Object Class: Euclid

Containment Procedures: The five instances of SCP-XXXX currently kept at the Foundation are to be held in separate 4m x 4m x 6m rooms. The temperatures in these rooms are to never exceed 23.89 degrees Celsius (75 degrees Fahrenheit.) These instances are each to be fed a live sheep once a month and must never be placed within line of sight of each other. Anyone entering the containment units or handling instances of SCP-XXXX must wear a hazmat suit at all times. Any instances of SCP-XXXX found in the wild are to be killed on sight.

Description: SCP-XXXX is the collective classification for a species of creatures that resemble satin-lined fur coats with a pair of round eyes on the upper back. These eyes are easily concealed when closed; the eyelids are covered in fur which easily blends into the fur on the rest of its body. Their fur most commonly resembles that of rabbits, although instances have also resembled that of snow leopards, minks, foxes, chinchillas, wolves, and sables. These creatures release an oily secretion that covers their entire body, and coming into contact with this secretion will induce a loss of fine motor control and the ability to form sounds as well as uncontrollable twitching to the point where, if restrained, an infected individual will thrash violently enough to break their bones. Testing of the secretion has been authorized so as to develop an antidote; requests for access to cadavers or live specimens of SCP-XXXX are to be forwarded to Dr. Bevels directly.

SCP-XXXX has the ability to regenerate if harmed, and cutting a living specimen into multiple pieces will cause each piece to regenerate into a full, separate organism. They are, however, extremely sensitive to heat, and exposure to temperatures above 26.7 degrees Celsius (80 degrees Fahrenheit) will cause SCP-XXXX to die within minutes and will rapidly evaporate its secretion, thus rendering it no more harmful than an actual fur coat.

The first discovered instance of SCP-XXXX was found in ███████ ██████ National Park on December 14, 1962, but the existence of legends such as that of the Rumtifusel suggest that creatures like this may have existed for at least 150 years prior. While other specimens have been found in the wilderness, it has become increasingly common to find them in department stores, boutiques, and other businesses that sell clothing. Instances have been discovered at ███ stores in █ countries.

SCP-XXXX are very slow, moving at a rate of two centimeters per second, but any living creature that comes into contact with their “satin lining” is enveloped by it, appearing to pass through the “lining”. Where their victims go is unknown, as no changes are present in the physical appearance of SCP-XXXX after it envelops something and dissections of SCP-XXXX cadavers have shown that they appear to have no digestive system. It appears hat SCP-XXXX does gain some form of nourishment from enveloping its victims, though, as prolonged deprivement of creatures to envelop has invariably led to the death of the deprived specimens. Initially, it was believed that individuals who touched SCP-XXXX simply went out of existence after being fully enveloped, but following Tests B and C, this theory has been discredited.

Upon enveloping an organism, SCP-XXXX will enter a dormant state in which it ceases producing its secretion, closes its eyes, and will not envelop anything that touches it. The length of this dormant period varies in direct proportion to the size of the organism it has last enveloped, with smaller animals such as rats providing for a dormant period of around two weeks and large animals such as cows resulting in a dormant period of around a year. This has led to several cases of people buying instances of SCP-XXXX in their dormant state and mysteriously disappearing some time later; any missing persons cases regarding people who purchased a fur coat within the last two years are to be reported to Dr. Olmstead.

If two instances of SCP-XXXX are in line of sight of each other, they will each begin to reproduce by budding, with a new instance growing out of its back over the course of three (3) days until it separates fully formed. (The process continues even if they are removed from each other’s line of sight.) This process is rather rare given their slow movement and is likely why their population is so low.

Test XXXX-A

Instance of SCP-XXXX was given its regularly scheduled live sheep. The sheep was wearing a collar with an attached homing device around its neck; when enveloped, the collar was not enveloped along with it, causing massive trauma to the sheep’s body as it was forced through the collar and past the instance’s “satin lining.” The sheep’s wool was also not enveloped. Three days later, the specimen was given a second sheep, this time with a homing device implanted subdermally; the device was enveloped along with the sheep without incident while its wool was still left behind. It has been concluded that SCP-XXXX can envelop inorganic matter, but only when it is encased completely by organic matter.

Test XXXX-B

One D-Class personnel, henceforth referred to as D-5022, had a homing device and an audio communication device implanted subdermally and was placed in a containment room with an instance of SCP-XXXX. Upon touching the instance’s “satin lining”, D-5022 was enveloped along with the homing and communication devices without apparent incident, albeit leaving his hair and his clothes behind. Homing device was displayed as still being in the containment room despite having been enveloped; muffled screaming was heard from the communication device for five hours and twenty-seven seconds before ceasing.
Despite the secretion’s effect, the screaming sounded like that of D-5022.

Test XXXX-C

Another D-Class personnel (D-5398) was placed in the same containment unit, this time implanted with a subdermal heart rate monitor as well as the homing and communication devices. D-5398 and all three devices were enveloped without incident; screaming was once again heard from the communication device, this time for six hours and eleven minutes before ceasing. As of this writing (██/██/████), there has been no apparent change in D-5398’s heart rate; he is presumably still alive but has lost the ability to form sounds due to dehydration, trauma to the throat, or another condition.
