Item #: SCP-4961

Object Class: Euclid

Special Containment Procedures: SCP-4961 must be kept safely stored in a steel container, the container must have contact with or seal SCP-4961 closed at all times for safety reasons (This is not in effect during testing, as it must be out of the container to trigger anomalous results.
In the case of SCP-4961 triggering any visible effects on a subject, it is to be de-contaminated immediately, and the subject in question to be incinerated and disposed of.

Due to death toll, only Class-D personnel may come in contact with 4961. Followed by guards.

Description: SCP-4961 is a small, wooden box. On it's rear are signatures, addressed as █████ and █████. No known data exists to prove that these are real people at all, as a similar name is mentioned on SCP-####. The box appears to be roughly a century old, with no visible openings when it is in its dormant state. When the box is touched by a human, it will slide its lid off and onto the floor, notable details include that it can differentiate between human, and humanoid: it is unknown how it is able to do this however. The inside of the box appears to be some kind of soft black leather. Due to recent discovery, no tests have been made on the properties of the leather.

While it is in it's active state, SCP-4961 will trigger one of two events. The first event is that a build-up of buzzing can be heard emanating from the box, and whoever made contact with the box will immediately tense up and fall to the floor. After roughly ten minutes, the buzzing noise fades and the subject will stand up. Upon standing up they will immediately target another person in the room (It is recommended to bring another Class-D for this) and will begin to pin them down. For reasons unknown, once the other subject is pinned down, the subject attacking them (Now referred to as SCP-4961-1) will scream and die immediately. — The reason of death is unknown however the bodies are shown to contain a rare fungi known as █████. Hence the reason they must be burnt immediately.

The second event has been shown to happen 1/5 times, with no correlation between subjects chosen. When the lid of the box slides off of SCP-4961 there will be no buzzing. There will however be a flash of light and the subject, now known as SCP-4961-2 will be missing and seemingly taken by the box.
6843 seemingly absorbs the bodies, as it has been recorded to grow in size by 1cm in length each time.

Notable Features:

  • Little research has been done in this item, due to high death toll, rarely positive results and the relatively newness of it's discovery.
  • Although faint, SCP-4961's buzzing seemingly increases in volume each time it claims another victim, not by absorption, but by event-1 occurring.
