Item #: SCP-XXXX
Object Class: Euclid
Special Containment Procedures: SCP-XXXX-1 is to be contained in a standard biological containment locker filled with water. No additional water is to enter the area in which SCP-XXXX-1 is contained. Any personnel attempting to enter the containment area must wear protective biohazard suits, especially if any interactions or experimentations are to be done with SCP-XXXX-1 specimens. Any new instance of SCP-XXXX will be terminated, including any instance of SCP-XXXX-1 or SCP-XXXX-2.
Description: SCP-XXXX is a single-celled organism that spreads through contaminated water and the bodily fluids of humans. It is a parasite that infects humans exclusively, and the parasite itself is known as SCP-XXXX-1. The organism, after infecting a human being, has the ability to eliminate the identity of the infected and their memories. Their language and cognitive skills regress into the equivalent of a 4-year old, and some even end up in a catatonic state. Those who are infected by the parasite become an instance of SCP-XXXX-2.
After the initial infection, the subject will begin experiencing flu-like symptoms for between 2-3 weeks. These symptoms will steadily worsen until the subject enters a coma that will last between several hours to a week. Once the subject awakens, their memories and identity will be wiped, but all symptoms would have disappeared. Currently, there is no known way for SCP-XXXX-2 instances to recover their identity, and current brain imaging techniques have failed to reveal any meaningful physical alterations to the brain. The exact biological mechanism that allows SCP-XXXX-1 to eliminate the identities of the infected is unknown, but the parasite has been observed to only begin reproduction in the brain of the infected.
