Item #: SCP-4318

Object Class: Safe

Special Containment Procedures: SCP-4318 is to be held in a small steel-lined █████████ with a lock on the opening clasps. The █████████ is to be held in room ███ in Site-██. No further precautions have been deemed necessary in the storage of SCP-4318 SCP-4318 is to be guarded at all times by 8 D-class security personnel. Access to SCP-4318 is to be granted only to Foundation personnel with level 4/2000 security clearance or greater. Two Scranton Reality Anchors are to be placed on either side of SCP-4318 to help protect SC-4318 from hostile reclamation efforts by individuals possessing reality-warping capabilities.

Description: SCP-4318 is a parchment sheet, approximately 9 inches long by 6 inches wide. Samples of the parchment itself have been analyzed in an on-site lab, and it has been determined to be made from the skin of an unknown creature. This creature shares similar DNA sequencing to homo sapiens sapiens, with some marked differences. It is unknown if this creature has been previously identified by the Foundation. ██████ dating methods have placed this object's age at roughly 2,600 years old.

SCP-4318 was found in an archaeological dig in ███████, Siberia, in 1977. However, its anomalous properties were not documented until ████, when it was stolen by a Sarkic cult. Foundation agents were able to retrieve SCP-4318 with no casualties, and began testing on it, discovering its anomalous properties after the creation of an instance of SCP-4318-A.

SCP-4318 bears writing in a Proto-Uralic script, written in an unidentified substance. The writing has been translated as follows.

SCP-4318 is able to nullify the anomalous properties of any inorganic anomalous object within roughly 3 meters2 of SCP-4318. The effects of SCP-4318 immediately take effect when another anomalous object is brought within range, and immediately end when said object is moved out of SCP-4318's range. It is hypothesized that extended exposure to SCP-4318 could damage or perhaps even destroy other anomalous objects - however, due to the rarity of expendable anomalous objects and the cognitohazardous nature of SCP-4318, the O5 Council has expressly forbidden the extended exposure of any anomalous objects to SCP-4318.

SCP-4318 is a level 2 cognitohazard. Anyone who touches SCP-4318 feels a compulsion to take SCP-4318 and bring it to an unknown location, attacking any and all who impede their progress. Said compulsion increases with time, as well as with various traits of the affected individual - those with more aggressive tendencies seem to be completely enthralled by SCP-4318's cognitohazardous effect within one hour of continuous contact, while more passive individuals may last up to three hours. Individuals who are thus affected are designated as an instance of SCP-4318-A. Upon being incapacitated or mortally wounded, SCP-4318-A will attempt to transfer SCP-4318 to the nearest suitable individual capable of becoming an instance of SCP-4318-A. If at any point SCP-4318-A loses physical contact with SCP-4318, SCP-4318-A will have an adverse reaction which increases in severity with the time SCP-4318-A has been in contact with SCP-4318. Those in contact with SCP-4318 for over an hour will immediately cease all vital functions, while those in contact for only a matter of seconds will only feel minor irritability.

Instances of SCP-4318-A are capable of rational thought and communication, even in after retaining contact with SCP-4318 for over 24 hours. If possible, they will perform all necessary vital processes such as eating and drinking. Due to SCP-4318-A possessing communicative ability, multiple interviews have been conducted with instances of SCP-4318-A. However, because of their ability to communicate and think rationally, instances of SCP-4318-A are capable of deception, and can for short periods of time appear to act in a non-anomalous manner.

Addendum: SCP-4318, and by extension Site-██ where it is contained, were attacked by Sarkic forces on ████, most likely in an attempt to retrieve SCP-4318 and any other Sarkic anomalous objects within the site. Foundation security was able to repel the assault, but not after Site-██ was heavily damaged and many casualties were sustained. In the aftermath of this assault, further security measures were implemented to Site-██, as well as the containment cell in which SCP-4318 is kept. Both a detonation trigger and a memetic kill agent have been added to the █████████ containing SCP-4318. Should the detonation trigger be activated, SCP-4318, as well as anything in the immediate vicinity, will be destroyed.

The O5 council has forbidden further testing with SCP-4318, and issued the following statement.
