Item #: SCP-4988

Object Class: Euclid

Special Containment Procedures: SCP-4988 is incapable of being contained and no future attempts should be made to remove it from its current location. In the case of the current instances of SCP-4988-A and SCP-4988-B's deaths, willing Foundation personnel must create new instances of SCP-4988-A and SCP-4988-B so that they can be returned to containment.

The current instances of SCP-4988-A and SCP-4988-B are currently housed at Site-█. The current instance of SCP-4988-B is identified as former Foundation researcher, Doctor Anne C██████.

The instances of SCP-4988-A and SCP-4988-B are to be kept in a 12x12 meter shed outside of the primary testing facilities, furnished with two (2) beds, a bookshelf stocked with books published before 189█, a wooden rocking chair and a single window made from bulletproof glass allowing vision of a nearby mass of trees planted by Foundation personnel, such as to provide the illusion of being located in an open forest. Neither instance is permitted to vacate the cabin at any time. No Foundation personnel are permitted to enter the cabin without permission from one or both of the SCP-4988 instances unless absolutely necessary.

SCP-4988-A is to be fed a single organ selected from an on-site cadaver once per day. The instance of SCP-4988-B and an assigned researcher must remain in contact at all times to monitor the instance of SCP-4988-A for unusual or threatening activity. If SCP-4988-A turns violent, both instances of SCP-4988 are to be terminated immediately in order to minimize casualties.

Description: SCP-4988 is an intangible entity located in the ███████████ district of London, England. Without external intervention, SCP-4988 is dormant or "hibernating". During periods of dormancy, absolutely no anomalous properties have been noted in or around the ███████████ district.

When a human female fails to birth an infant at the end of their pregnancy in the ███████████ district, SCP-4988 leaves dormancy. This occurs most commonly through [REDACTED], but abortions also produce valid candidates. This will not occur if the mother is deceased alongside their child. If criteria are met, SCP-4988 will "consume" the infant's corpse upon leaving the womb, taking it to an unknown location. No inorganic or live matter is taken with the corpse, making it impossible to determine the destination of the body.

Approximately five (5) to six (6) weeks later, SCP-4988 will manifest in the building that the infant corpse was originally taken from, taking the form of SCP-4988-A. The mother of the deceased will become SCP-4988-B, and will assume anomalous properties of her own, ceasing to age naturally or require any sustenance of any kind. In compensation, they appear to be linked to SCP-4988-A, feeling hungry, tired or pained when it does. These shared sensations increase in intensity as SCP-4988-A draws closer, and cease to be felt at all when SCP-4988-B travels ██ miles away from them.

SCP-4988-A is what appears to be a seven (7) year old human child, standing at 1.1 meters tall and weighing 13 kilograms. Subject appears to be afflicted with albinism and severe malnutrition, providing a "corpselike" appearance. Close inspection has revealed that, in spite of having the same bodily functions and needs as an ordinary human, SCP-4988-A does not possess a functioning vascular system, lacking a heart, veins and any and all blood. This does not appear to impede SCP-4988-A in any way. SCP-4988-A is also unusually strong and quick, having demonstrated the ability to lift a 30kg object with no difficulty and cross a 50 meter hallway in ten (10) seconds. Lastly, observation has made it clear that SCP-4988-A can only consume human flesh for sustenance, and cannot process anything else.

Upon manifestation, SCP-4988-A will begin to home in on SCP-4988-B. This pursuit cannot be escaped, simply drawn out. If SCP-4988-A does not speak with SCP-4988-B at all after █ days or SCP-4988-B travels ██ miles away from London, it will return to its "birthplace" and begin to stalk human females in the area that are physically similar to SCP-4988-B, using its strength and speed to subdue and murder them before - if left undiscovered for a long enough duration - completely hollowing out the corpse, removing both organs and bone. These materials will be consumed by SCP-4988-A over a full day. Upon consuming a full human corpse, SCP-4988-A will advance in physical age by one year. If an instance of SCP-4988 reaches eighteen (18) years of age, [DATA EXPUNGED].

If SCP-4988-A and SCP-4988-B meet, SCP-4988-A will introduce itself as their deceased child, calling itself "Jack" and requesting shelter. If provided shelter without a method of also providing sustenance, or if SCP-4988-B denies their request, SCP-4988-A will become feral, killing and consuming SCP-4988-B before moving on to their usual hunt.

If SCP-4988-B successfully provides for SCP-4988-A's needs, however, it will become docile. In this state, SCP-4988-A behaves similarly to a true child of its age, and will generally cooperate with Foundation procedure when requested to. It is both more intelligent and much more manipulative than an ordinary child, however, and will react violently to obvious containment attempts1.

Upon death, SCP-4988-A's corpse rots at speeds approaching fifty times the normal rate of decay for a human corpse, and will quickly dissolve entirely. SCP-4988 will then become dormant again until another instance appears.

Addendum 4988-1:
Interviewed: SCP-4988-A

Interviewer: Dr. Anne C██████

Foreword: Initial contact with a docile SCP-4988-A instance. SCP-4988-B had been moved into a temporary holding cell twenty minutes prior to the beginning of the log.

<Begin Log>

Dr. Anne C██████: Hello, Jack.

SCP-4988-A: Hello, ma'am. Are you a doctor? I heard the others out there say you were.

Dr. Anne C██████: That's one way to put it, yes. I wanted to talk to you about your history, your health, and so on. Your mother's permitted it, don't worry.

SCP-4988-A: Ah… can't she be in here with me?

Dr. Anne C██████: I'm afraid not, Jack. I'm sorry.

SCP-4988-A: That's a shame. Well, what did you want to talk about?

*A pause*

Dr. Anne C██████: I wanted to ask you why you killed Mary █████.

*SCP-4988-A looks surprised for a moment, then frowns.*

SCP-4988-A: I don't know what you mean, ma'am. I haven't hurt anyone.

Dr. Anne C██████: *(Nodding)* That's good to know. How has your time with Ms. ██████ been?

SCP-4988-A: Good enough, ma'am. The meals are good, the rooms are warm.

Dr. Anne C██████: Ms. ██████ hasn't been buying much food at all recently. What have you been having?

SCP-4988-A: Meat, ma'am. I had a very good plate of ribs last night.

Dr. Anne C██████: Did your mother already have a lot of meat in her kitchen when she met you, or has she obtained it more recently?

SCP-4988-A: Recently, of course. Frozen meat's not as good. She gets it from her job, and it goes quite nicely with—

Dr. Anne C██████: Your mother works in a morgue, Jack.

SCP-4988-A: …well, she has to. You lot don't take kindly when I eat fresher things, and the dead hardly complain as it is.

Dr. Anne C██████: You eat body parts, then?

SCP-4988-A: Yes.

Dr. Anne C██████: What do you mean by "fresher?"

Closing Statement: The instance of SCP-4988-B at the time disappeared and was found dead four days later. The corresponding instance of SCP-4988-A was summarily terminated. Dr. Anne C██████ volunteered to become SCP-4988-B in order to contain SCP-4988-A, and was soon moved into containment.
