Item #: SCP-XXXX
Object Class: Safe
Special Containment Procedures: SCP-XXXX is to be contained in a standard inanimate object cell in Site-17. It is covered with an opaque tarp at all times unless testing is permitted by at least two Level-3 researchers. Any signs of personnel affected by SCP-XXXX should be reported to the nearest security personnel member. Affected individuals will be detained and monitored until cleared or confirmed to be affected.
Description: SCP-XXXX is a painting of a bearded male of Italian descent, believed to be in his mid 30s or early 40s, dressed in white robes and clasping a vase-like object with both hands. The painting is titled Francis of Assisi, by Francisco de Zurbarán. Francisco was apprehended and Interviewed after incident XXXX-Alpha (see Recovery Log) and had no knowledge of the anomaly. He was given Class-A amnestics and released. Viewing SCP-XXXX will cause major somatic effects. Symptoms include paleness, low blood pressure, insomnia, dementia, and extreme hunger or thirst. Anomalous effects will only manifest if an individual views SCP-XXXX in person.
Changes start immediately after directly viewing SCP-XXXX. Subjects introduced to the painting will regard it as one of the finest works of art they have ever seen. The subject, now classified as SCP-XXXX-1, will then attempt to learn more about the figure by studying the painting. If removed before discovering the identity of said figure, SCP-XXXX-1 will attempt to
If isolated with the painting from between 1 to 3 days, SCP-XXXX-1 will discover the origins of the figure depicted in the painting. The figure is a leader of an ancient religion that existed sometime between the year 1000 and 1400 B.C.E. After said discovery, SCP-XXXX-1 will gain the knowledge of the entire religious structure, completely abandoning their former religion in favor of the new one. All symptoms except low blood pressure and paleness will start to lessen directly after the discovery. Leaving SCP-XXXX-1 with the painting for more than 6 days will result in the subject either falling into insanity, committing suicide while praying to the gods, or passing due to unknown causes.
If SCP-XXXX-1 is removed from the containment chamber between the 3-6 day period, it will frequently ask to visit the SCP-XXXX. If the painting is not directly viewed by SCP-XXXX-1 twice every week, the subject will kill itself or die of unknown causes. Two D-Class subjects exposed to the painting have been terminated for attempting to enter the Safe Containment Wing by running past the armed guards. No researcher has discovered the name or origin of the religion to date.
