SCP-1712 being recovered by MTF Gamma-6 disguised as fisherman. Apparatus on its head clearly visible.
Item #: SCP-1712
Object Class: Euclid
Special Containment Procedures: SCP-1712 is kept in a custom build aquarium, equipped with automated and manually operable medical equipment. Vital signs are continually monitored; noticeable changes are to be responded to immediately by the designated medical team. Water temperature is maintained at 20°C. Water pumps are installed to assist in respiration when necessary. Request to put SCP-1712 in a medically induced coma is currently under review.
Description: SCP-1712 is an mutilated aquatic creature, with multiple traits present in the Elasmobranchii subclass1. It has five pair of gill slits, and a boneless skeleton made of a tough, elastic cartilage. The dorsal fins are large enough to cover the entirety of both sides of the body, resembling those of the Batoidea (Ray). Said dorsal find terminate in three flexible digits.
A metallic construct resembling a visor has been crudely attached to both sides of SCP-1712's skull. Research so far concludes that said device is not functional, and further study has been suspended due to the potential health risks that would result from attempting to remove it. On the right side of the device, the words ''Oneiroi Collective'' are engraved.
Foundation Neurologists have determined that SCP-1712 was at one point in time intelligent enough to understand language, and might even have been capable of writing. When SCP-1712 was encountered and contained however, it was nearly comatose. Neuroimaging reveals that its brain is heavily damaged, with the most likely cause determined to be either oxygen deprivation, the attachment of the device, or a combination of both.
Addendum A: SCP-1712 after reports of ''a monstrosity'' reported by local fishermen, escalated to the Foundation by an embedded Foundation Marine Biologist. Despite being barely conscious, it was firmly grasping what remained of a notebook. While being made from water-resistant materials, the majority of the pages seem to be missing, possibly due to being torn out by SCP-1712 or other fauna. Foundation personnel have reconstructed the writing to the best of their ability. It is presumed that several days or weeks are missing between entries.

They built her for me. I don't even know her name, but it's the most beautiful creature I have ever seen. They won't let me in her room yet, they need to check her vitals and stuff.
She's doing okay. I think she's not working right. She doesn't want to be touched, and her eyes are cold. Dr. Jules says it will pass.
[Illegible]
She is still cold. Jules told me that I can't tell Lily, but they'll get rid of her if she doesn't love me back or punches harder. She doesn't like it, and I don't think she likes me.
[Illegible]
I told her. Jules locked me in my chamber. He hasn't told me what he'll do to me.
[Illegible]
She's gone. They liquidated her last night. Jules is taking me to the ocean tomorrow for ''rigorous sharpening of my skills''. Is he going to get rid of me too? They got rid of the model before me too. That's what they told me anyway.
It's weird, but I don't know if it's bothering me that much. I think Jules believes that I'm… I don't know if I feel anything.
[Illegible]
I'm not dead, so that's good I guess. They were surprised I still punched as hard as I did. They called me ''hardcore because I didn't even care about losing my lover''. She hated me to the end.
[Illegible]
I had a dream. I never dream, didn't even know I could. It was scary, but it also felt comforting, like I was being embraced. I don't know why, but when I woke up, I was crying. I don't know why, but I know it wasn't for Lily. Has she been dead for three weeks already?
[Illegible]
I keep having dreams of my perfect mate. I think. I don't have anyone, so my mind is making her up. I know it's not a healthy thing, but I love going to sleep now. They seem so vivid.
[Illegible]
Jules and Mike talked about something bizarre today. I heard them talk from the meeting room. Oni-something. Don't know what it means. I just want to go to sleep.
[Illegible]
Holy shit. Mike had a dream about her. He described her perfectly.
[Illegible]
She told me what Mike wrote on the whiteboard after I left. If it's still there, she's real. I might be going insane.
[Illegible]
Jesus Christ, she's real.
[Illegible]
My little Goldfish gives me so much energy! We'll find a way to be together in time. I punched so hard that the head almost came off! I am the Turbo Shark Pulverizer 8000, keep them coming!
Addendum A-2: An SPC document was found stapled to the notebook. Despite water damage, the majority of the text is still legible.
I can't sleep. Took a document, I think it's mentioning me. What if you can't control where you appear? What if Mike finds out that you're real? He would try to hurt you, right? Am I making a horrible mistake?
[Illegible]
It's maddening. Even if I could reach you, how can I be sure that you'll be safe? I know that you don't care, but I do. I won't lose you, whatever the cost.
[Illegible]
We had a meeting last night. They could tell that my heart wasn't into it. Asked me what was wrong. Nothing is wrong with me. In fact, I feel like I'll be the happiest [illegible] I contacted our mutual friend. He thinks he can help us, but he doesn't understand why. That's okay, he doesn't need to.
[Illegible]
I think they found out. They know. The way they look at me, they suspect something.
[Illegible]
Oneiroi. I heard Mike use the word today. My heart is sinking. They ordered [illegible] look for them. I tried to convince them to let me do it instead. They know that I [illegible] they have to. Is it better to let you go? [illegible] see you again? I have to do something, right?
[Illegible]
Talk to me, please. I love you. Did I offend you somehow? I didn't see you last night.
[Illegible]
Mike made me punch it until it stopped moving. He saw it. He knows that I stopped caring about the cause. I want to leave the country, leave everything, but I can't. They'll find you eventually. You're too much like one for them. I think.
Hearing your voice again, your beautiful voice. I hate waking up. I'm so glad you're okay.
[Illegible]
Mike knows. He read my diary. He laughed at me and said you weren't real. I said you were, and that he knew that Oneiroi was real as well. He stopped laughing. I fucked up. Please tell me it's going to be okay. I fucked up.
[Illegible]
Mike is dead. I strangled a person and threw his body in the ocean. I threw up three times my hands are shaking and I can't stop it oh god Mike I'm sorry you knew so much [Illegible]
[Illegible]
I can't sleep. You visit me but so does Mike. Please do something so he goes away. I want to be with you. I called him today. We might be together soon, then I don't have to sleep to see you.
[Illegible]
They think a shark got him. Half of his body was eaten. Everything will be okay if we make this work. We'll go far away. We'll change our names. I'll take care of you, nothing else will matter. He has to make it work. The funeral was last week. I had to be there. How can you love a murderer?
[Illegible]
Mike won't leave me alone. I don't deserve it anyway.
[Illegible]
She calls me her bowl. We're going to the lab tonight.
Addendum B: The final pages detail the location of a gene laboratory located in [REDACTED]. All parties that communicated with SCP-1712 or the creature described in the notes have been administered amnestics. All security footage detailing the following incident have been confiscated.
| TIME | |
| 13:23 | Feed is showing security footage of ██████ laboratory. Apart from standard laboratory equipment, a machine resembling an archway is visible. Inside said archway, a mirror is embedded. |
| 13:25 | A SCP-1712 is escorted into the room by a lab assistant. They are placed before the archway. The lab assistant talks to the creature for two minutes, then leaves the laboratory. |
| 13:32 | A researcher enters the room, greets SCP-1712 and turns the machine on. He places electrodes on the temples of the creature. |
| 13:40 | A silhouette appears in the mirror. SCP-1712 seems visibly elated. It yells something at the researcher, who in turn begins adjusting dials, presumably attempting focus the image. |
| 13:42 | The door of the laboratory is breached and three individuals wearing full combat armor storm in and train automatic rifles at both SCP-1712 and the researcher, who takes a few steps back. |
| 13:42 | SCP-1712 shoves the researcher away and turns a large handle on the right side of the machine down, then drops to the floor. One of the armored individuals fires a shot, which misses SCP-1712 but hits and penetrates the mirror, which shatters immediately. The machine short-circuits and releases a flash of purple light before partially exploding. The feed is distorted and cut immediately after. |
