Item #: SCP-XXXX

Object Class: Safe

Special Containment Procedures: SCP-XXXX is to be kept submerged in oil and kept in a safe-class storage locker contained in a moisture free room. If removed from the safe, SCP-XXXX is to be handled by whilst wearing dry protective gear by personnel who have not consumed fish in at least 48 hours. SCP-XXXX must not be exposed to moisture and must not be brought within 12km of any major source of water under any circumstances. Its storage facility must not serve fish, roe, crustaceans, molluscs, echinoderms, medusozoa or other marine based foodstuffs in on-site catering.

Description: SCP-XXXX is a Fisherman's Friend brand menthol lozenge contained in a tin of the same brand. The container itself has severely rusted over time with an estimated production year of 1920. SCP-XXXX has a similar density and size of a normal Fisherman's Friend, but exhibits a tensile strength of 31.7 GPa and is insoluble in water. On the two occasions SCP-XXXX has been tasted, it was reported as being mint flavour in the first experiment and blackcurrant in the second.

Upon SCP-XXXX's contact with water, all marine animals within an approximate 10km radius will attempt to seek out and consume SCP-XXXX, ignoring all other external pressures. Upon consumption of the object, the marine life will then continue as though nothing had occurred, usually until consumed by other marine animals seeking SCP-XXXX. If disconnected from the body of water that contains SCP-XXXX, marine life will exit their current body of water in an attempt to seek SCP-XXXX. These creatures will then typically asphyxiate or be consumed by predators. Recently deceased marine life will still react to SCP-XXXX, moving/excavating to varying degrees depending on the state of the corpse.

Recovery log: SCP-XXXX was discovered on ██/██/19██ in the village of ████████-upon-█████.It is unknown how it came into contact with water, but one sample of SCP-XXXX was washed into the local harbour at approximately ██:00 pm. Over the course of 13 hours, marine life flooded the harbour in an effort to consume SCP-XXXX. An estimated 140 tonnes of marine life swarmed ████████-upon-█████'s harbour, the majority of wildlife asphyxiating or dying of exhaustion over an area of 11.8km2. At ██:20pm the following day, the waters were calm enough to mount an expedition from sea. 1.6km from shore, towards the centre of the mass, a male blue shark was found being consumed by other wildlife. The specimen was retrieved, and upon dissection SCP-XXXX was found intact in the specimen's small intestine. After a search of the harbour, an open tin of Fisherman's Friend was found perched on the end of a pier, containing five Fisherman's Friends (three mint, two aniseed). It is unknown how the container and contents arrived at the pier or if these samples exhibit the same properties as SCP-XXXX.
