Special Containment Procedures: SCP-XXXX-A instances are to be kept in a secure locker along with the necessary mediums for their use when not in use during testing or routine inhibition of SCP-XXXX-C Activation Events. As part of the agreement with the NFL,1the Commissioner of the NFL2 is to be informed of the existence of SCP-XXXX and given necessary information in order to facilitate cooperation in the containment of SCP-XXXX. The current Commissioner of the NFL, Roger Stokoe Goodell, has been given the appropriate information, and has agreed to continue the NFL's cooperation with the Foundation.
SCP-XXXX-B is to be administered amnestics upon the start of an SCP-XXXX-C Activation Event, and is not to be informed of its anomalous nature. As SCP-XXXX-B is a major figure in popular culture, as well as the effects of SCP-XXXX-B itself, containment of SCP-XXXX-B is determined to be detrimental to containment of SCP-XXXX as a whole.
Individuals who have undergone Procedure-XXXX-THORPE are to be detained by Foundation personnel and subjected to routine interview. Upon the cessation of a five day waiting period, they are to be administered Class-A amnestics and released from detainment.
Description: SCP-XXXX is a series of three anomalous phenomena, designated SCP-XXXX-A, SCP-XXXX-B, and SCP-XXXX-C respectively.
SCP-XXXX-A is a collection of 37 video games produced by Arcadia Interactive. Each instance of SCP-XXXX-A3 is an altered version of a video game released in the Madden NFL series of video games. SCP-XXXX-A instances represent every entry in the series released for home video game consoles and personal computers from 1988 to the present day. The alterations present in SCP-XXXX-A instances vary from instance to instance, however most instances do not alter the instance in way that makes it inoperable.
SCP-XXXX-B is former American football coach and sports commentator John Earl Madden, known for being the namesake of the Madden NFL franchise and head coach of the Oakland Raiders. SCP-XXXX-B's primary effect occurs when he interacts with any individual who has either appeared on the front cover of a Madden NFL game, or played any instance of SCP-XXXX-A. Upon contact with an individual who has met the requirements for SCP-XXXX-B's anomalous effect to occur, they will be immediately transported to SCP-XXXX-C. Observers of these events, including SCP-XXXX-B, will be completely unaware that any such event occurred, and will be unaware of the individuals absence until a later date.
SCP-XXXX-C is the designation of an extradimensional location accessible through contact with SCP-XXXX-B. SCP-XXXX-C resembles a standard football field in terms of length, width, and composition. Upon an individual being transported to SCP-XXXX-C, an Activation Event will occur. During SCP-XXXX-C Activation Events, entities resembling humanoid football players materialize around the 50 yard line. A voice, identified to be that of SCP-XXXX-B, announces through speakers that the 'Eternal Super Bowl'14 is set to begin. The individual accessing SCP-XXXX-C is then given the choice of one of two teams, and upon their selection a game of American football will begin. Investigations have determined that the game played in SCP-XXXX-C is directly affected by SCP-XXXX-A instances, with decisions taken during the course of gameplay directly affecting the events unfolding in SCP-XXXX-C. For example, while playing an instance of SCP-XXXX-A, the player will select a team, which will allow them to control the analogous team in SCP-XXXX-C. The game itself played in SCP-XXXX-C lasts longer then a regular football game, and to date no game has ended without the initiation of Procedure-XXXX-THORPE.
Procedure-XXXX-THORPE is the only known way to end an SCP-XXXX-C Activation Event. Procedure-XXXX-THORPE consists of the operator of SCP-XXXX-A purposefully attempting to injure the individual trapped within SCP-XXXX-C, forcing them out of the game through the standard application of American football rules. While the application of procedure-XXXX-THORPE results in physical injury, death of an individual within SCP-XXXX-C has not been recorded to occur thus far, and individuals do not require food or water while within SCP-XXXX-C. To date, every single individual recorded to have entered SCP-XXXX-C has been recovered through the use of Procedure-XXXX-THORPE. Following the end of Procedure-XXXX-THORPE, individuals within SCP-XXXX-C are transported to a football field within the continental United States. Due to the nature of the procedure, and the high chance for individuals currently employed by the NFL to see a decrease in performance following the use of Procedure-XXXX-THORPE, Foundation resources have been set aside for the purpose of spreading myths and rumors surrounding a supposed "Madden Curse"15 , in an effort to delegitimize future claims of potential anomalous events surrounding the Madden franchise.
History: SCP-XXXX was discovered following the disappearance of Barry Sanders16, who appeared on the front cover of Madden NFL 2000, on August 27th 2001. Foundation agents were alerted to possible anomalous activity following a noted increase in online discussion of 'haunted' copies of Madden NFL 2000. Online instances of SCP-XXXX-A were discovered, and quickly taken down once physical copies were determined to exist, and contained. It was determined that Arcadia was responsible for the distribution of SCP-XXXX-A online. While testing on SCP-XXXX-A-15 was underway, on September 7th 2001 the ongoing game being played in SCP-XXXX-C was shown by SCP-XXXX-A-15. Upon the injury of Barry Sanders during testing on December 22nd, 2001, the game abruptly ended. Barry Sanders was discovered the following morning at City Stadium in Richmond, Virginia, in extreme condition. Sanders was transported to a Foundation site for medical treatment and interrogation. Following a month long recovery period, Barry Sanders was interviewed, a transcript of which is provided.
Interviewed: Barry Sanders.
Interviewer: Senior Researcher Harland Jones.
Foreword: This interview was conducted following Barry Sanders month long recovery period, which ended on February 1st, 2002. Mr. Sanders was not made aware of the purpose of the Foundation, and was lead to believe that he was being kept at a psychiatric facility and medical center.

Jones: Good afternoon, Mr. Sanders. I have a few questions for you today, before we can release you.
Sanders: That's perfectly alright by me, sir. Thank you sincerely for taking care of me throughout my recovery.
Jones: You're very welcome. Now, during your stay you've informed Dr. Wallace17 about some of the memories you have before coming to this facility. Could you please tell us a bit about this football field you spoke of?
Sanders: Yes, alright. So I'm going up to meet John Madden, right? He's invited me up for dinner with his family and some other friends. I go up to meet him, shake his hand, and next thing I know I'm in this big field!
Jones: Was there anything with you on the field?
Sanders: No, I was dressed in the same clothes I had on, same outfit, everything. I looked around for a bit, saw some folks standing by, and then all of a sudden I hear John say a game's about to start.
Jones: What did you do?
Sanders: I did the only thing I knew how to do, I played football. I don't remember how long, it felt like such a long time but I know it can't have been longer then a few hours at most.

Jones: Thank you for your time, Mr. Sanders. If you would wait here for a few minutes, someone will be here shortly to escort you home.
Sanders: Thank you, sir.

Closing Statement: Following the interview, Barry Sanders was administered amnestics and released from Foundation custody. Due to the nature of his disappearance, media speculation concerning his absence has been suppressed, and currently there is no recognition that Barry Sanders had ever disappeared.
SCP-XXXX containment efforts began to turn towards isolating the remaining potential anomalies, which in April of 2003, culminated in a joint agreement between the Foundation and the NFL being written. Among other things, the agreement provided for NFL assistance in monitoring SCP-XXXX-B and a reassurance that SCP-XXXX-C Activation Events will be handled under the jurisdiction of the Foundation. SCP-XXXX-B was then interviewed following this, concerning his work with Electronic Arts and the development of the Madden NFL franchise.
Interviewed: SCP-XXXX-B
Interviewer: Assistant Researcher Joseph Warren
Foreword: Following the signing of the agreement between the Foundation and the NFL concerning SCP-XXXX, SCP-XXXX-B was interviewed by Foundation researchers under the pretense of filming a documentary on the Madden NFL series.
<Begin Log>
Warren: Mr. Madden, we have a few questions here regarding your work with Electronic Arts on the Madden NFL video game series.
SCP-XXXX-B: Please, call me John.
Warren: Alright. John, you first began working with Electronic Arts in 1988, correct?
SCP-XXXX-B: That is correct. I was approached by Trip Hawkins, EA's founder.
<Extraneous Information Removed>
Warren: Are there any interesting stories you can tell us about your time working with Electronic Arts, any strange incidents?
SCP-XXXX-B: Well, I don't think so. Working with the folks at EA is always loads of fun for me, but I don't recall anything out of the ordinary that occurred, you could ask some of the programmers and folks on the team about that, they might have some fun stories to share.
Warren: Alright, thank you John it's been a plea-
SCP-XXXX-B: Hold on, hold on. I do remember something. It was… I want to say 1996 or so, I had just gotten done with recording for Madden '97. I get out of the recording booth, take a break for a bit, see how people are doing, and I see this guy. He's just standing there, leaning on the wall somewhat, talking to one of the members of the team, which isn't odd, but I had never seen this man before. I'd been working on the game for quite some time now, and this was someone I'd never met before.
Warren: You had no prior interaction with this individual?
SCP-XXXX-B: None.
Warren: Can you give a description of this individual?
SCP-XXXX-B: He looked kind of like a businessman, his hair looked somewhat greasy, had a suit with a tie on, like the kind of person you might see on television trying to sell you a product, I don't remember his height or what his face looked like, but I could probably pick him out if I had a photo.
Warren: What happened after you saw this man?
SCP-XXXX-B: So, I go up to this guy, who I've never met before right? He's still talking to one of the team members when he notices me, finishes up his conversation, and turns to talk to me. We start talking, I introduce myself, tell him my name, all that stuff. Then he does the same, and all of a sudden I see something on his suit. He's wearing a business suit, black with a red tie, the usual formal attire, but he has this pin on his suit.
Warren: A pin? What sort of pin?
SCP-XXXX-B: It's a triangle, sort of a red color, looks kind of faded.
Warren: I see. So, what did you do next?
SCP-XXXX-B: Well, I was interested in what it was so I asked him about it, said I'd never seen him around before and wanted to know what he was doing here. I kid you not, he looked me dead in the eye, and told me not to worry about it. He said he was working for a company that had been partnering with EA on the series. I had never heard about this, so I ask him what the name of the company is. I don't remember exactly what he said, it was…. something like "Archon" or "Archive" or something like that.
Warren: Does the name "Arcadia" sound familiar at all?
SCP-XXXX-B: Possibly. It was a while ago so I don't remember it very well but that sounds like it could be right, anyways, I've never heard of this company before, and I was pretty involved in the creation of the series, y'know? I wanted the game to be just right, to be authentic to football, if it was gonna have my name on it, it needed to play like real football! So, I tell him I've never heard of this corporation, and he gives me a business card, I don't have it anymore, but it's this business card. He says to come on down over the weekend and have a few beers with him.
Warren: Did you accept his offer?
SCP-XXXX-B: I did! I went on down that weekend to the address on the card, and there was nobody there! Just an empty building, the logo on the card isn't there, there's no cars in the parking lot, and the building looks like it'd been abandoned for a few years. I go home, get some rest, give the folks at EA a call and ask about the guy. They say he's never worked with them before but they know who he is, says he's been out of the business for a while.
Warren: You did not find this suspicious?
SCP-XXXX-B: Well, I figure, alright it's just a weird guy who showed up, must've been confused or something, he looked like he'd been having a bad day when I met him so I didn't think much of it. I left it alone, and I haven't heard from the man since.
Warren: Do you remember the name of this individual?
SCP-XXXX-B: Not perfectly, but I believe it was something like… Cole? No that's not right….
SCP-XXXX-B pauses and thinks for roughly 30 seconds.
SCP-XXXX-B: Nolan!18 It was Nolan, that was his name. His name was Nolan. I don't recall his last name, but yes his name was Nolan.
Warren: Alright, thank you John, it's been quite a pleasure speaking with you.
SCP-XXXX-B: Believe me, the pleasure is mine.
<End Log>
Closing Statement: Following the interview, subsequent interviews were conducted. During these, SCP-XXXX-B was questioned about this incident, however it did not recall any such incident occurring. SCP-XXXX-B was subsequently administered amnestics and is currently being monitored in conjunction with the NFL.
