- SCP-5XXX is to be constructed to the specifications listed in Protocol Ernetti. Staff are to be assigned to SCP-5XXX as described in Protocol Ernetti. Protocol Ernetti is to be accessed only by members of O5 Command and the Ethics Committee. Any unauthorised access to Protocol Ernetti will result in immediate termination. SCP-5XXX-1 through -7 are to be contained within SCP-5XXX as described in Protocol Ernetti.
Description: SCP-5XXX is the remains of Site-158, a Foundation Containment site located at ██°██′██″S ██°██′██″W, Antarctica. Construction of Site-158 began on 1962-10-06, and finished 1966-03-09.
SCP-5XXX was discovered, on 1956-12-14, during an aerial research mission by 2nd Lt. Karl Williams of the United States Air Force. Williams radioed in a sighting of an abandoned structure located in an as-of-yet unmapped area of land on the Antarctic continent. The discovery was intercepted by the Foundation, and 2nd Lt. Williams later amnesticised. Mobile Task Force Chi-12 ("Shackleton's Explorers") was formed to travel to, and explore, SCP-5XXX.
SCP-5000 was reached by MTF-X-12 on 1957-04-12, and was found to be in derelict condition externally. Logs of the initial exploration are below.
Exploration Video Log Transcript
Date: 1957-04-12
Exploration Team: MTF-Chi-12 ("Shackleton's Explorers")
Subject: SCP-5XXX
Team Lead: Cpt. Henry Watt
Team Members: Agt. J Styles / Agt. F Baynes / Dr. O Richie / Dr. T Ashe / Eng. R Hopkins
[BEGIN LOG]
WATT: Okay, time is thirteen hours, twelve minutes, and we've arrived at the location. Initial notes… mostly covered in snow, just like everything else here. Seems to be a couple of antennae sticking out, and what looks like a roof. Guess we'll get digging.
HOPKINS: We better set up base camp, get some shelter. Least the weather's good for now. I'll get Bessie (MTF-X-12's specialised tractor) set up and we can start digging. Find a way in.
ASHE: Sounds good.
Base camp is established, and excavation begins, primarily around the roof visible above the snow. After roughly 45 minutes, a door is uncovered.
BAYNES: There's something. Looks rusted as fuck, though. Hopkins?
HOPKINS: Right on it. Shouldn't be long. How old is this place, anyway? Seems to have been here a while… but I've never seen a door like this. Looks pretty modern.
There is a short pause as Hopkins uses a blast torch to open the door. Informal chatter occurs amongst the other members of MTF-X-12. Suddenly, there is a loud bang and the door opens approximately 0.5 m wide.
WATT: Alright, we don't know what'll be in here. Styles, you take the lead, Richie and Hopkins, with me, and Baynes, take the rear. Weapons hot. Ashe, maintain comms at base camp.
Unanimous assent is spoken, and MTF-X-12 enter SCP-5000. Before them is a lobby, in a derelict state. Little furnishings are present, and no indication of national allegiance is present. Two doors lead further into the installation - both are closed.
STYLES: Er, definitely an entryway. Seems to be a research station of sorts, looks like it's been abandoned a while. Ain't seeing any identifying markers, though- we wanna split or stick together here, boss?
WATT: Stick together right now - we haven't worked out what sort of shithole this is and I'm not taking any risks. We'll take the left door first - Baynes, leave a marker, in case this place moves.
MTF-X-12 proceed to the left-hand door, which is found to be unlocked. They pass through and are met with a metal staircase, descending. They head down the staircase, arriving at a further door that they enter. A sign is on the wall facing them.
RICHIE: Shit. We have to call base.
[END LOG]
MTF-X-12 contacted control, who, after a period of investigation, determined that there were no records of any Foundation site on the continent of Antarctica, or any record of a Site-158. MTF-X-12 were provided with this information and given the go-ahead to continue exploration. After a period of 4 days (delays were mainly due to locked or damaged doors, and the freezing temperatures), MTF-X-12 had mapped the entirety of SCP-5XXX. Their findings are presented below.
SCP-5XXX exploration results
- 2 dormitories, with room for approximately 80 individuals.
- 1 cafeteria/kitchen complex.
- 20 offices.
- 2 employee common rooms.
- 1 apparent control room.
- 1 archive room, containing a number of newspapers dated up to August 1975, and a number of highly advanced computers.
- Multiple maintenance, storage, and auxiliary rooms.
- Utility rooms, including water purification facilities and a functional generator array.
- 1 containment wing. Details are recorded in Appendix 1.
- Of note, 23 bodies were found in SCP-5XXX, mostly preserved due to the extreme conditions of the location. Details of these are in Appendix 2.
SCP-5XXX was designated Keter, and handed to the Department for Temporal Anomalies. Further information, including recovered documentation, is located in Appendix 2.
Appendix 1: The containment wing located in SCP-5XXX contained 5 standard humanoid cells, 10 standard large object cells, and 50 standard low-security anomalous item lockers. All 5 humanoid cells, and 9 of the standard large object cells were found empty. 6 of the low-security lockers were found to contain items, with a further 4 having evidence of previous use.
Large-object Cell 1
The cell was found to contain a Citroën 2CV, dating from 1948. No anomalous properties were discovered from the object.
Low-Security Locker 1
The locker contained a regular HB pencil, that, when left on a surface, would always balance perfectly on its point.
Low-Security Locker 2
The locker contained the remnants of a wooden model ship in a bottle. No anomalous properties were found, however, the object was discovered to be identical (albeit broken) to Anomalous Object-7997, currently contained at Site-19.
Low-Security Locker 3
A crystal ball, emitting a faint and constant ringing sound, was found inside the locker.
Low-Security Locker 4
An hourglass was found in the locker. The sand inside the object flowed upwards.
Low-Security Locker 5
Locker was found to contain a badly-burnt copy of The Grapes of Wrath, with no apparent anomalous effects.
Low-Security Locker 6
A small scale model of the Eiffel Tower, constructed from metal, was found in the locker. The object was found to evoke a strong taste of marzipan in those who touched it.
Appendix 2:
Information gathered from SCP-5XXX across multiple explorations resulted in the following conclusions: SCP-5XXX is, was, or will be a Foundation research and containment site, designated Site-158. SCP-5XXX was constructed from 1962-10-06 to 1966-03-09, and was staffed on 1966-03-12. Site-158 was designed for a medium level of containment, but for unknown reasons was never utilised to this level. Site-158 was also not staffed fully, despite operating until 1975-07-26.
On 1975-07-26, Site-158, and all contents, was impacted by an unknown temporal anomaly, and moved to the approximate year of 1054 AD. Site-158 remained untouched until discovered in 1957.
The following diary extracts were recovered from SCP-5XXX, located on a body identified as Jr. Researcher H. Franklyn. At the time of discovery, Jr. Researcher Franklyn was employed at Site-28, and had no knowledge of SCP-5XXX. Handwriting analysis confirmed the text to be genuine.

Got reassigned today; some new site down at the south pole. Not sure who I pissed off to get that job. Apparently it's some recently built containment site. Guys in the lab got me a new watch. Gonna miss them.
12th March, 1971
I've been in Site-158 for the past week now and I'm already bored. It's always cold, even with the heaters on full blast, and there's only like 30 of us here. The cells are almost all empty - all we have is a handful of the most mundane anon amo anomalies I've ever seen. Maybe we'll get something new soon. Long as it's not some keter monster with huge fangs.
…
5th March, 1973
Two years! We had a party in the cafeteria today, all 27 of us. George reckons I'll get transferred out soon, but I'm not so sure. Still, this place has kind of grown on me. Still wish we had better heaters, though. What none of us understand is why we've still not got many anomalies. Sure, we occasionally get one, but it usually moves out pretty quickly, and we're stuck with that damn bunch of crap again. Got to go - Frank just said there's cake.
…
17th August, 1975
Almost lost power tonight. George managed to get the back-up generators working, but the comms equipment is still down. This storm better lift soon or we might be in real trouble. Still no word from Hamish and his team - hope they're safe out there. At least we don't have to worry about a breach.
20th August, 1975
Storm only seems to be getting worse. Hamish's team still aren't back yet and we're starting to get worried. It's lucky we have enough food to last us a good few years, because at this rate nobody's getting out for a while. Something's up with the director - she's locked herself in her office, gets us to pass food through twice a day. We're all taking turns being in charge of entertainment - work's all on hold, and we've got to have something to keep us going. If there's one benefit to an understaffed site, it's that there's plenty spare blankets, at least.
26th August, 1975
Something weird happened this morning. About 7 there was a bang and the power went out, but fixed itself in seconds. Turns out the storm completely stopped - and weirder than that, the heaped-up snow all vanished too. Site's still damaged - the pylons are still down, and the roof of the garage is still under, but there's no snow there. George is going to try get the aerials fixed later, get comms back up. Hopefully we'll be able to get in touch with Hamish that way.
28th August ?
George got the aerial fixed, but the comms lines are down. We're not getting anything, not even chatter from shipping lanes like we used to. We didn't know why at first, because on our end everything's operational. It was a clear night last night, so Jacob decided to do a bit of stargazing. I guess he's into that. But he was only out for five minutes before he came back in and got that weird book of star charts the site had in the command room (is that normal?).
There's a supernova up there. And based on where it is, we're in the 16th century.
…
March?
Lost Susan today. Locked herself in one of the cells and shot herself. Won't be the last. Director says she's onto something - maybe she means a way back? We have to just hope the Foundation's out looking for us. Back in the future.
…
Those bastards left us here to die.
Note from O5-7
Under Protocol Ernetti, Site-158 was constructed to the blueprints discovered in the archive room during the initial exploration of the ruins. Site-158 was staffed based upon the records discovered in the ruin, to match those staff members present at the future temporal event. We knew what was going to happen. We sent some of our best men and women to die.
And we'd do it again if we had to.
