Item #: SCP-NNNN
Object Class: Euclid
Special Containment Procedures: SCP-NNNN is to be stored in a minimum-threat Site-19 humanoid-anomaly containment cell, and is to be provisioned with standard nourishment for adult male Homo sapiens. SCP-NNNN is to be fitted with mandibular restraints during in-person interactions with Foundation research staff, unless access to its mouth is required for testing.
Care is to be taken by researchers to avoid being bitten by SCP-NNNN, or to allow SCP-NNNN to come into contact with any cuts or wounds. Note that blood contact with SCP-NNNN leads to rapid death by soul desaturation, which precludes the possibility of resurrection.
Description: SCP-NNNN is an adult male human of indeterminate species, with a complete lack of anima vitalis.1 Humans in continuous blood contact with SCP-NNNN experience a rapid drop in AV levels, leading to death within five to ten seconds.
While SCP-NNNN displays phylogenetic overlap with other members of genus Homo, it does not clearly represent any of the three known extant human species. SCP-NNNN's facial structure bears similarities to that of Homo sidhe, with lanceolate auricles and densely-lipochromated irises, but it lacks their sophisticated syrincate vocal cords. Its tall stature—with no evidence of gigantism—and elongated maxillary canines indicate Homo himalaya parentage, but its smaller prefrontal cortex closely resembles that of Homo sapiens. It displays a moderate degree of sensitivity to non-anthropogenic iron.
Such extensive hybridization is rare, though not anomalous.2 Likewise, the ability to drain anima vitalis is a well-explored field in thaumaturgical science. However, according to all theories of thaumaturgy, a living human without a soul is an impossibility.3 No such condition has been successfully induced in a human of any species, whether natural-born, cloned, mind-swapped, resurrected, uploaded, manifested from aether, shapeshifted, transmuted, un-apotheosized, or self-ancestored via predestination paradox.
Unlike H. himalaya, SCP-NNNN does not use its elongated canines to support a mundane carnivorous diet. SCP-NNNN instead uses its teeth to pierce the skin of thaumic sources (i.e. humans), which establishes a highly-conductive aetheric connection to the soul. The steep thaumic differential leads to a rapid aetheric transfer, draining the source’s soul down to lethally low levels within seconds. At this point, death is inevitable and irreversible. Colloquially, Foundation staff refer to this behavior as "feeding."
Though its ability to drain AV with such efficiency is remarkable, it is the root of the anomaly—a living human that entirely lacks a soul4—that is still poorly understood. SCP-NNNN itself is not forthcoming with explanations. Thus far, researchers have relied solely on experimentation, theory, and the scant knowledge of the anomaly's life prior to acquisition (see Addendum NNNN-01 for recovery details).
Foundation researchers initially hypothesized that SCP-NNNN was able to somehow digest anima vitalis to sustain itself. However, it has been demonstrated that SCP-NNNN can survive for arbitrary periods of time without "feeding," to no ill effect. The AV that it drains from its sources is discarded, and dissipated into the ambient aether. It is unknown what utility, if any, SCP-NNNN finds in its "feeding" behavior.
Addendum NNNN-01: Circumstances Of Acquisition
SCP-NNNN was recovered on December 21st, 2019 near Lochbrid, Scotland, a small town populated primarily by H. sapiens. A local resident, Alanna ███████████, contacted the Foundation after observing a pattern of suspicious deaths and disappearances in the area. MTF Phi-9 ("Iron Maidens") arrived at her home three hours after contact. Though ███████████ herself was absent, a journal detailing events related to SCP-NNNN was discovered at the residence. Information in the journal allowed MTF Phi-9 to swiftly track and acquire SCP-NNNN. Relevant passages are reproduced in Supplement NNNN-01, below.
The whereabouts of SCP-NNNN prior to its discovery are unknown. Beyond ███████████’s notes and testimony, what little information the Foundation has gleaned of its history was collected during acquisition. Notably, a digital camera and telephoto lens were found in a backpack carried by SCP-NNNN. The memory card contained numerous photographs of deceased and vanished locals, taken both before and after their deaths and abductions.

Saw a gorgeous little roebuck across the glen. No more than seven hands high at the shoulder, stubby antlers. He bolted before I got too close. Skittish, young enough to remember hiding in the grass. Oops.
Gwen is in a tizzy. There’s a new boy in town, and she tells me he’s a pretty one. They say he’s a posh Englishman, come up on a hiking holiday. Gwen says he booked an airbnb for a month, but I give it a week before he breaks an ankle and has to be helicoptered out. Assuming he bothered to bring a radio.
{date}
Good rainstorm today. Lightning struck a big old oak, gave it a new scar. Must remember to check on the roots. Hopefully not too burnt.
Lauren’s daughter took ill last evening. I brought over ginger tea and tylenol. Kept an eye on the girl until the fever broke. Was up all night, didn’t get a wink of sleep.
Finally ran into that tourist, at the shops. He's tall and skinny. I don't think he knows how to smile. Gwen says he's "dreamy" and "mysterious." I think he looks like a fencepost with a hat. His name is Malcom.
{date}
The MacPherson boy left their paddock gate open again, half the horses wandered off. As usual, they needed my help to bring them home. Took the whole damn afternoon. At least I got a blueberry pie out of it.
My cousin has gone out for a “walk” with Malcom again. I swear if I have to listen to another word out of her mouth about the man, I’ll wring both of their necks. We’re grown women, but Gwen is always fluttering over boys like a teenager. Wish Gran were still around, she’d knock some sense into the ninny. I’d do it myself, but she’s bigger than me.
{date}
Gwen is finally bringing Malcom to the house tonight. She knows I don’t like him, but family is family. I'll humour her. Maybe I can be unpleasant enough to scare him off.
Got a good look at his eyes for the first time. They’re greener than mine, almost as green as Mum’s. I think he’s glamoured his ears. He might have noticed me noticing. Is that why he hadn't come over yet?
It’s in our nature to hide. Gwen’s the only person in the village who knows about me. Custom says to respect his privacy.
{date}
He found me on the trail. He didn’t bother to glamour away the points of his ears, so neither did I. He didn’t say a word, so neither did I.
He looks like sidhe, but there's something very strange about him. Cold. He kept his mouth closed, but I think he might have fangs.
He puts me in mind of a tree that has rotted away, and left an empty shell of bark behind.
{date}
Lea's turnips won't sprout. She begged me to come over and look at her garden. As expected, the soil was rubbish. Woman old enough to be my mother, and she still doesn't compost properly. I gave her a good talking-to.
Fought with Gwen when I got home. Stupid girl. Why doesn't she LISTEN? I've told her he's sidhe, but she thinks it's romantic.
Bought a bunch of little iron meteorites on ebay. Hope one or two are genuine. Maybe I’m being paranoid, but I want cold iron.
{date}
Meteorites arrived today. Most were fake, but three were pure enough to burn the hell out of me, and I’m not even half-blooded. Told Gwen I was careless with the oven. Don’t think she believed me. We get into a new row every day. We barely talk, except to fight.
Wish they were big enough to chip into proper knives, but knuckle dusters will have to do. Just need to wear gloves.
{date}
Gwen didn’t come home tonight. She didn't run off. She left her phone and wallet behind. Malcom is gone too.
{date}
Another search party today. Still nothing.
{date}
Elspeth and Meghan went missing today. Police can’t find anything. Useless. Nobody but me goes in the woods anymore.
I’m going to kill him.
{date}
Sally went missing today. He’s close.
{date}
I found Meghan and Elspeth's bodies. Not even hidden, just dumped right at the trail head. He wanted me to find them. Taunting me. Took three hours for the police to get there anyway.
They’d been dead less than a day. He was keeping them alive.
Bite marks on their necks. I tried to say the words, but their souls were GONE. How?? What is he?
{date}
Elaine went missing today.
{date}
I just came home from patrol. My window is broken, and Gwen’s scarf is on my pillow. Fresh blood on it. Very fresh. Rookie mistake. Now I've got him.
If this should be my last entry, heed these words. I am Alanna, Lady of Brighde Loch. My mother was Lady of our valley before me, and hers before in turn, born unto the holy line of Nimuë herself. They know it not, but I am sworn to protect all who dwell on my lands. A monster preys upon them. I despaired, but I am strong. Blood calls to blood, and the creature has given me exactly what I needed.
His location as of 2:45 AM, 21 December 2019, is marked on the map on my desk. I am going there now.
I have yet to appoint an heir. If I fall, Brighde Loch will be without a Lady. This is a risk I am willing to take. Gwen needs me. Elaine needs me. Sally needs me. Meghan and Elspeth needed me, and where was I? If I die tonight, I can't let it be in vain.
Thus, by my title and right under the Old Law, I beseech the Black Moon to carry my plea to Avalon. Come to thy daughter's aid, for I have but meager iron, and little skill with war magic. Should I fall, finish my quest. Protect my people from this monster.
Fighting monsters is what you do best.
Addendum NNNN-02: MTF Phi-9 Acquisition Report
Alanna ███████████ reached the location indicated by her map approximately five minutes before MTF Phi-9. Sally ████, Elaine ██████, and Gwen ███████ were discovered nearby, where they were treated for dehydration and non-critical wounds before being airlifted to a local hospital.
SCP-NNNN was unconscious when MTF Phi-9 arrived on the scene. It had sustained severe burns and blunt-force trauma, likely due to ongoing exposure to improvised cold iron weaponry. Nonetheless, acquisition proved surprisingly difficult. It took several minutes of negotiation with Lady ███████████ before she allowed MTF Phi-9 to approach, during which time SCP-NNNN sustained further serious injuries.
After much deliberation with Site-19, Lady ███████████'s request for immediate, on-the-scene termination of SCP-NNNN was denied by the Ethics Committee.
