Item #: SCP-XXXX
Object Class: Euclid
Special Containment Procedures: SCP-XXXX is to be contained in a 4m x 4m x 5m concrete room, with a metal emergency shutter to block the camera feed from the observation room in the case of a Level 3 Exposure Event. No containers with a volume greater than 10cm3 are to be left inside of SCP-XXXX's containment cell, unless permitted during testing.
During testing, there is to be at least one member of staff inside a small viewing box in the observation room. This room has a small window to view the rest of the observation room, and must be locked to ensure at least one member of staff is able to operate the emergency shutter in the case of a Level 3 Exposure Event. At least one member of the observers is to be designated for the shutters in the case of a Level 2 Exposure Event. The extent of exposure is to immediately be established by way of staff establishing their ability to respond to each other through verbal call-outs.
Description: SCP-XXXX is an amorphous mass of a currently-unknown, translucent gas, about 3 meters in height and half a meter in diameter when in a dormant state. During this state the entity will remain motionless, aside from the flowing gases, and viewing of the entity is safe for those in the observation room or containment cell. The containment cell currently housing SCP-XXXX is approximately the size of its activation radius.
If a container (hereby designated SCP-XXXX-A) with a volume larger than 10 cubic centimeters is places inside the containment cell, SCP-XXXX will enter its active state, at which point its anomalous properties will manifest. The gas cloud will shift into a humanoid shape, then 'walk' to the container and reach in. SCP-XXXX will then begin its "process", where it will begin to pull artistic supplies of varying styles and sizes from the container. Though the size of the objects seems to be related to the size of the container, the container does not need to actually be opened for this "process to occur." (See list of items below.)
Any observers of this anomaly will be unable to release their focus from SCP-XXXX, and will remain a static observer until ther view is obstructed, the entity's "process" is completed, or the observer expires. (Multiple species have been tested; This effect is only apparent in mammals.) If the observers can block their vision of the event, they are no longer in danger of becoming transfixed. This effect is dampened by viewing the anomaly through a monitoring device such as a camera, though protection is not completely effective. (These observers are designated as SCP-XXXX-1 collectively.) This effect is completely nullified if the event is viewed as a recording at a later time.
Once SCP-XXXX has produced its first utensil, it will walk to the nearest vertical surface and begin to draw, paint, hatch, etc. SCP-XXXX will draw erratically, with no discernible purpose, and will constantly change utensils throughout the "process". SCP-XXXX-1 will later state, if it survived the process, that it was the most beautiful thing they had ever seen.
If SCP-XXXX has not transfixed any observers with its process within the first hour, it will wipe down its markings from the walls, leaving no visible or chemical residue on the surface, before returning its utensil to SCP-XXXX-A and returning to its dormant state, which it will remain in for anywhere from 1-5 hours, even if SCP-XXXX-A remains in place. This "recharge" time appears to be random, and no pattern has been found between the utensils used and the amount of time spent dormant.
If SCP-XXXX has trapped at least one living observer during the first hour of its process, its behavior will drastically shift, returning its current utensil to SCP-XXXX-A and retrieving an unlabeled wax crayon of varying color. The entity will draw with this crayon for roughly 30 minutes, sketching an outline of SCP-XXXX-1, then return it to the container, where it will then draw a colored pencil. (Also unlabeled and of varying color.)
It will again draw for roughly a half an hour, at which point it will return to SCP-XXXX-A. It will continue until the "process" has lasted anywhere from 3-5 hours, depending on the size of SCP-XXXX-1, at which point it will begin to pull unknown art utensils instead. This segment will last for at least one hour, and pigment from these utensils is always white. At this point the portrait of SCP-XXXX-1 is highly detailed, even if the observer is out of view of the entity.
Once the hour is finished, SCP-XXXX-1 will start to emit sounds of intense pain, as well as react physically to where pain is felt, though they will continue to focus on the entity. SCP-XXXX will then pull several small organs/bones out of the container, regardless of the container's size. It will then use said items to continue drawing and scratching its work, smearing various bodily fluids along the portrait. It will become increasingly dissatisfied with its utensils, grabbing more from the container, the items becoming larger as time goes on, though hearts and brains have never been observed to be used.
SCP-XXXX-1 will, at this stage, begin showing increasingly severe signs of pain and discomfort, eventually coughing up blood and various other fluids. The last organs to be taken from the container will always be a pair of lungs, at which point SCP-XXXX-1 will cease coughing and sit motionless until it dies. SCP-XXXX will then return to the center of the room and its dormant state, leaving the grotesque organ portrait and deceased victim(s) wherever they lay. The portrait at this stage in the process is smeared with blood around the mouth and eyes and, where applicable, the chest cavity has been ripped open.
A full process will leave the entity in its dormant state for a full 24 hours before it will react to another container in its cell, at which point it is safe to enter the containment cell.
Levels of Exposure Events are as follows:
Level 1 - No Exposure/Class-D Exposure
Level 2 - One or several members of staff are transfixed
Level 3 - All members of staff are transfixed, at which point the remote shutters are activated from the viewing box.
Addendum:
Due to it's dormant nature without SCP-XXXX-A, any interview with SCP-XXXX have proven unsuccessful during this state. Interviews with SCP-XXXX during its active state have also proven to be unsuccessful, as the entity becomes completely absorbed in its work. Any attempts to remove SCP-XXXX-A during the "process" has been met with hostility from the entity, where it will float through the offending individual, the latter dropping to the ground unconscious within seconds. Further attempts at interruption with this method are ill advised.
Testing Logs:
Test 1A
SCP-XXXX Testing after initial containment
Date: 10/13/19██
Procedure: D-68577 given small cardboard box placed in containment cell with dormant SCP-XXXX; told to set box on floor and wait.
Results: Due to lack of understanding of anomalous properties, 4 members of research staff were killed, as well as D-68577.
Analysis: All witnesses to the event were killed, no explanation for deaths aside from autopsy. The viewing window has been replaced with a large monitor, showing a video feed from the other side of the wall. Will use Class-D personnel to test effectiveness of the monitor dampening the event's ability to transfix observers.
Test 3D
Date: 2/7/19██
Procedure: 6 Class-D personnel inserted into containment cell, no information given.
Results: SCP-XXXX pulled several large bones, as well as a full hand out of SCP-XXXX-A. All Class-D personnel [DATA EXPUNGED]. No signs of incisions or tears found on or in what was left of the bodies. Mural sized painting left on entirety of north cell wall.
Analysis: It would appear that SCP-XXXX paints much larger portraits if more observers are present, as well as the amount of pain and injury represented in the final portrait being more prominent.
Test 7B
Date: 7/13/19██
Procedure: D-88216 left in room, told to close eyes until instructed otherwise. After initial event, D-8821 was instructed to remove the box from the containment cell as SCP-XXXX was working.
Results: Upon D-88216 picking SCP-XXXX-A up, SCP-XXXX turned and immediately 'walked' through D-88216. D-88216 immediately dropped to the floor, dropping SCP-XXXX-A, at which point the entity went back to its painting. D-88216 died after process was complete.
Analysis: Due to the risk of hostility of SCP-XXXX poses during testing of removal of SCP-XXXX-A, mechanical arms are to be used.
Test 7C
Date: 7/20/19██
Procedure: Mechanical arm attached to SCP-XXXX-A left in containment cell. Observer picks up container with mechanical arm.
Results: After passing through the mechanical arm, SCP-XXXX immediately moved towards the observation room, at which point it pressed its form against the wall, seemingly aware of someone controlling the arm.
Analysis: It is unknown if SCP-XXXX understands electronics, or has some kind of telepathic ability to sense any interrupters. Whatever the case, further testing of removal of SCP-XXXX-A is not recommended, due to the possibility of SCP-XXXX escaping it's containment cell and passing through members of staff.
