Item #: SCP-XXXX

Object Class: Euclid1

Special Containment Procedures: Access to the Antarctic Temperate Zone and the surrounding Antarctic Peninsula is to be restricted via use of standard Foundation misinformation channels. Provisional Area-82 is to be presented as a research facility working with highly sensitive equipment so as to discourage interference by outside non-anomalous groups.

Instances of SCP-XXXX-2 are to kept in Provisional Area 82, located at the edge of the Antarctic Temperate Zone. Eggs laid by SCP-XXXX-2 instances are not to be disturbed outside of rudimentary observation. New instances of SCP-XXXX-2 produced by these eggs are to be exposed to recordings of SCP-XXXX-1 and their responses recorded.

Addendum: Until a sufficient number of SCP-XXXX-2 instances are able to replicate SCP-XXXX-1, all plans to reintroduce SCP-XXXX-2 to the Antarctic Temperate Zone are to be placed on indefinite hold.

SCP-XXXX-2

Description:

SCP-XXXX is the collective designation of a phenomenon observed in a population of Agelasticus thilius2 (designated SCP-XXXX-2) located in an unusually warm region of the Antarctic Peninsula, referred to in this document as the Antarctic Temperate Zone.

SCP-XXXX-1 is an anomalous bird song sung by SCP-XXXX-2. When in groups of ten or more, instances of SCP-XXXX-2 will begin to sing SCP-XXXX-1, causing a steady rise in surrounding temperature to a maximum of 28°C. The size of the area affected by SCP-XXXX-1 is proportional to the number of SCP-XXXX-2 instances singing it. SCP-XXXX-2 instances have not been observed to produce any other sounds normal for their species, preferring to exclusively sing SCP-XXXX-2.

The Antarctic Temperate Zone is a 9km2 swamp region containing plant and insect life also present in the natural habitats of Agelasticus thilius. Based on surverys of the area, it is currently hypothesised by the Foundation that the Antarctic Temperate Zone was gradually colonised by SCP-XXXX-2 between 18XX and 19XX.

SCP-XXXX is a birdsong sung only by Yellow-Winged Blackbirds (Agelasticus thilius)3 found in the Antarctic peninsula, designated SCP-XXXX-1. When gathered in groups of ten or more, SCP-XXXX-1 will sing SCP-XXXX, inducing a steady increase in local temperature in a 3km radius to a maximum of 28°C.

All known instances of SCP-XXXX-1 reside in a swamp covering 9km2 of the Antarctic coast with SCP-XXXX being the form of fauna present. Due to a lack of predators, SCP-XXXX-1 instances are neither afraid of, nor hostile to Foundation personnel. With the exception of this behaviour and their knowledge of SCP-XXXX, SCP-XXXX-1 behaves in a similar manner to other members of their species.
