SCP-5039

Item #: SCP-5039

Object Class: Euclid

Special Containment Procedures: SCP-5039 should be held in a containment chamber designed to look like an American 1960s suburban household. This has been proven to be the only containment SCP-5039 will accept. Researchers can be allowed in, but only as long as they observe SCP-5039 through a modern camera, otherwise SCP-5039 will cause the person viewing to suddenly suffer a cardiac arrest, and their face will appear deformed.

Description: SCP-5039 is similar in design to a television made in the 1960s. It is worn, as if kept in a household for some time, but the television was first reported in the middle of ████ woods. The television's controls are not functional, it appears to turn on at random intervals. When the television is on, a man appears in the screen, sitting facing the viewer. The man will say the viewer's name, and a series of images will flash on the television screen. These images have been proven to be different for each subject. Once the images are over, the man will reappear, smiling. His mouth moves, but it is unclear what he is saying. Dr. Stevenson's research states it could be something about [DATA EXPUNGED]. Once the man has finished speaking, his smile widens and the entire room begins to shake. The viewer will then suffer a cardiac arrest, and their face will elongate and deform itself. The man will say, "thanks for watching," before the television shuts itself off.

Addendum: The following is the only interview personnel have been able to obtain.

Interviewed: SCP-5039

Interviewer: Dr. Stevenson

Foreword: This interview was conducted directly after the first subject suffered the cardiac arrest. Dr. Stevenson was lucky enough to happen to be recording this interaction with a camcorder, so SCP-5039 did no harm to him. This is the only instance where the man in the television has said more than the viewers' names, and it is still unclear why.

Dr. Stevenson: Can you hear me?

SCP-5039: Yes, Dr. Stevenson.

Dr. Stevenson: Do you know where you are?

SCP-5039: Why, this looks like the good ol' U.S. of A. But what is that? (The man points to a surveillance camera)
Dr. Stevenson: That is unimportant. How did you get in that television, Mr. (Dr. Stevenson pauses, expecting the man to fill in the blank with his name)
SCP-5039: Oh I don't have a name, Dr. Stevenson. But thank you for asking. I've always been a part of this television. For as long as I can remember, at least.
Dr. Stevenson: What did you do to that man? (Dr. Stevenson gestures to the subject on the ground)
SCP-5039: What I was designed to do, doctor.
Dr. Stevenson: And what is that, exactly?
SCP-5039 becomes unresponsive. He glances at the surveillance camera, and then the television shuts off.

Closing Statement: The man appeared to have been aware he was under surveillance, but no other instance of this acknowledgement has been seen. After multiple attempts of conversation with the man, he appears to have begun to understand what the cameras are being used for. When no one else is in the room, he now talks to them, saying things like "I'll find a way."
