Item#: SCP-XXXX
Object Class: Euclid
Special Containment Procedures: SCP-XXXX is located in Site-██ in a temperature-controlled, secure room. The room is under 24-hour surveillance of video, audio, temperature, and humidity; excluding thermal video as requested by [REDACTED].
Description: A 1980's-1990's era dixie cup, capable to hold a volume of approximately 148 mL (5 fl oz). Inside of the cup is a liquid with the consistency of pure water, which, when the liquid is in the SCP-XXXX-A (dubbed "Alpha") form, it has a density of 1.001 grams per milliliter squared, and a density of 1.201 grams per milliliter squared when in the SCP-XXXX-B form (dubbed "Beta").
The liquid in question is observed to look like aged, yellow ruled paper, with the lines always parallel to [REDACTED], despite the observed qualities of its density while in Alpha form. When the liquid comes in contact with any writing utensil (as observed in Addendum XXXX-1), it immediately enters its Beta form, to which it will stay in until all markings are either erased, or a total of 1 hour has elapsed since the last time a marking was made.
SCP-XXXX was found in the abanded Dixie Cup factory in ████, Pennsylvania. The building was being cleared out to be turned into a residential house or a potential mall. An inside agent of the Foundation was part of the cleanup crew and found a room with three cups like SCP-XXXX. The agent immediately contacted foundation personnel who successfully contained SCP-XXXX, but was unable to locate the other two cups.
The anomalous properties were found during transportation of the
Addendum - A Testing Log
No matter what writing utensil that was used, the same effect was observed. It has been observed that a writing utensil is only considered a "writing utensil" if it can make a mark on a piece of ruled paper. This does not include It should be noted that each time that the writing utensil touched SCP-XXXX, the user of the writing material reported feeling a slight chill, as well as feeling nauseous.
Test A
Subject: Standard Number 2 Pencil manufactured by ███████
Procedure: D-Class touches the tip of the pencil to the surface of the liquid, and proceeds to make a line perpendicular to the rulings. Then, D-Class is instructed to erase the mark.
Results: SCP-XXXX entered its Beta state. Within 0.3 seconds of the utensil touching the liquid, D-Class shivered and asked for a cup of water. Request denied, to which D-Class vomited onto SCP-XXXX. After D-Class cleaned off the vomit, he erased the mark to which SCP-XXXX re-entered its Alpha form.
Analysis: Also, after entering Beta state, SCP-XXXX was noted to disappear from thermal scans. Reasons why are unknown. Further testing on thermal anomalies authorized by Dr. ████████
Test B
Subject: Dr. ████████'s Pen
Procedure: D-Class touches the tip of the pen to the surface of the liquid.
Results: SCP-XXXX entered its Beta phase with similar characteristics to the last test. Temperature readings of the room lower by 10 Kelvin, then raised back to NTP. D-Class showed no signs of being cold. D-Class did show signs of nausea, including feeling light-headed and reporting feeling sick. It was later observed that SCP-XXXX re-entered its Alpha form after 1 hour.
Analysis: When SCP-XXXX entered its Beta phase, it again disappeared from thermal readings. When analyzing the video logs, small lights were seen near and on SCP-XXXX. This could be what was causing the thermal readings to disappear, but more testing on that is needed. More climate readings of the room are to be required.
Test C
Subject: A charcoal stick used for art. This was suggested by Dr. ████, who is a known art enthusiast.
Procedure: D-Class attempts to drop charcoal into liquid
Results: SCP-XXXX entered its Beta phase before the charcoal could enter the liquid. Thermal results the same. D-Class reported feelings of nausea, as well as a horripilation of skin near the hands. SCP-XXXX returned to it's Alpha form after exactly 1 hour passed, with no trace of the marking.
Analysis: The change of forms is observed to be instantaneous, as the charcoal did not dent the substance, nor did it become embedded in the substance.
