Dark Watchers

Item Number: SCP-5000

Object Class: Safe (possibly Euclid)

Special Containment Procedures: Full containment is not needed as no known instances of SCP-5000 are known to wonder beyond the Santa Lucia Range in California. However, Foundation personnel posing as either law enforcement officers or Fish and Game wardens are to enforce adherence to marked trails and roads. Any instances witnessed are to be attributed to illusions, such as a Brocken spectre, or to hallucinations.

Description: SCP-5000 manifests as a series of giant, humanoid silhouettes between two (2) and three (3) meters tall. Instances are often seen wearing a long cloak and wide primed hat. Most are often seen holding a staff or walking stick. Instances only manifest during twilight hours (being either dawn or dust) and always face west, towards the Pacific Ocean. Figures are seen at a distance of [DATA EXPUNGED] meters or more and appear motionless on mountain tops or high ridges for as long as direct line of sight is maintained. Instances generally will mind their own business and will keep to themselves. If any attempts to approach is made, manifestations will immediately disappear.

Entities can to manifest if specific specific prerequisites are met. These prerequisites to SCP-5000 manifestations include:

  • witness is traveling alone or has been separated from companion(s)
  • witness has no technology capable of capturing images or video of any sort
  • witness is walking along any of the coastal trails in the region
  • witness intends to camp along the trail

Eyewitness accounts of SCP-5000

Rumors claim that individuals who venture close enough to see any additional detail are never seen or heard from again and none of the clothing or other small items these individuals were carrying is ever found. However, these claims have yet to be proven. (See addendum SCP-4456-1)
