Item #: SCP-XXXX
Object Class: Safe
Special Containment Procedures: All known instances of SCP-XXXX-1, with attached SCP-XXXX are to be contained at Site-XX. Instances of SCP-XXXX-1 are to be housed and cared for as appropriate for Angus Cattle, with the provision that all water sources must be in contained formats, i.e. troughs, buckets.
When an instance of SCP-XXXX-1 expires, the corpse should be incinerated, and the ashes disposed of as conventional waste. The total number of SCP-XXXX-1 should be maintained at a level that does not threaten the future genetic diversity of SCP-XXXX, as deemed by the current researcher assigned to SCP-XXXX. Additional cattle should be purchased from public sources as necessary. At the current time, 647 individual SCP-XXXX-1 are in containment.
The consequences of SCP-XXXX becoming endemic in the world cattle population would include a complete collapse of beef production, as well as severe damage to the world economy. For these reasons, any instance of SCP-XXXX-1 found outside Foundation containment is to be transported to Site-XX for containment or incinerated.
Description: SCP-XXXX is a terrestrial bivalve whose life cycle parasitizes Aberdeen Angus cattle, though it will also infect other breeds. SCP-XXXX-1 refers to the host of an instance of SCP-XXXX, typically Bos Taurus, but SCP-XXXX has infected canines, felines, and in one instance a human.
Hosts typically contract the parasite through consumption of water where SCP-XXXX eggs are present. Once the eggs enter the host's intestines, they hatch and the larvae migrate through the host towards its reproductive organs, where they begin growing to maturity. The larva will begin secreting a local anesthetic and, over the course of several weeks, consume the hosts' reproductive organs, eventually growing to a similar size as the organs it is replacing. By this point, the instance of SCP-XXXX will have attached itself to the hosts' vascular system, and will sustain itself by consuming the hosts' blood.
Upon reaching sexual maturity, the instance of SCP-XXXX will begin producing either eggs or sperm, which are released through the hosts' urine. These are extremely hardy, and can survive for extended periods in acidic, caustic, and/or saline environments. Standard Foundation sterilization procedures have been shown to be effective at eliminating all forms of SCP-XXXX.
An instance of SCP-XXXX-1 infected with a mature SCP-XXXX is made sterile.
Addendum: As of ██/████, a total of 68 instances of SCP-XXXX have been found outside of Foundation custody. Attention must be paid to wild stocks of cattle, which may harbor SCP-XXXX in limited numbers, or to other ungulates that are similarly vulnerable to infection.
