Special Containment Procedures: The Location of SCP 5XXX is to have a perimeter of no less than 5km around it at all times. Due to issues of agents being lost and the nonlinear nature of agents being returned, only agents with HyperLoop-71.11 training are allowed within the perimeter, with anyone without this training [or civilians] being shot onsight. Animals are as well subject to being shot on sight if seen around the location of SCP 5XXX
Description: SCP 5XXX is a black orb floating about three feet off the ground, discovered by a local in 1997. It is 20 inches wide and unreflective. Any objects that touch its surface are sucked into it, with slight ripples seen emanating from the location that it was touched for a few seconds. It produces no sound and based on current understandings can not be moved, even with high explosives or heavy weapons being fired at it.
After initial research it was discovered that it was a portal to a new dimension, a dimension that is now being called “The Lobby” by most who have seen it. This new dimension is pitch dark, with the only light coming from the floating orb that the person or items in question fall out of when entering into the Lobby [the orb looks exactly the same within the Lobby with the exception that it has a faint glow as described, sending soft white light about 3m out in all directions]. The Lobby is completely and utterly flat, with the ground being made of what looks to be black and white tiles perfectly one foot square in a checkerboard pattern that goes on as far as any exploration has yet seen. So far the Lobby is empty except for six identical orbs spread around in a circle around 500m away from the orb that allows entrance into the Lobby. These additional orbs have yet to be explored, nor have any additional orbs been found. Off in the distance the sound of what appears to be an old phonograph playing the song “Ragtime” on loop can be heard, but the exact location can not be determined as the sound seems to come from all directions and never decreases or increases in loudness.
Off in the distances, just outside the reaches of any light that is brought into this dimension appears to be what has been described as “Floating Eyes” by some. These eyes have never been captured on camera or other median of recording and if real appear to leave agents alone, even when said agents venture into the darkness without a light [though reports of a heavy uneasiness beyond what you would expect in the dark have been noted, bordering on the edge of panicking after just a few moments in the darkness]. For now these reports have been noted, but placed to the side as more research. Beyond these “eyes” nothing appears to live within the Lobby.
In addition to the above comments, agents who return from the lobby have noted finding themselves deposited at a random location on earth, and even several times at random times, with one agent being sent back four weeks in time. This effect seems to be random, as even agents who leave the Lobby at the same time or who are in contact with each other have completely different experiences, with about one in three being transferred beyond 10km away from the portal and one in ten being transferred to a new time. Generally only one in around 20 are deposited beyond 1,000km, and one in a hundred experience time shifts greater than a year. Generally while it is rare for both to happen, nothing has stopped this. The exact way this happens is still unknown, nor the maximum distance or time shifting that can happen [23 agents are still reported as “missing” and have yet to reshow up].
