SCP - Literally Door Signs
Object Class: Safe
Special Containment Procedures:
SCP-1234-1, SCP-1234-2, SCP-1234-3 and SCP-1234-4 are to be kept inside SCP-1234 and locked in a secure foundation lockbox. They are not to be removed unless signed off by a trained researcher for the purposes of testing or ,along with full training on proper usage, for field use.
Description:
SCP-1234 is a 10" X 5" X 3" white single wall cardboard box with "Door Signs" crudely written in black ink across the side. The inside of the box contains a polystyrene insert with slots for 12 7" x 2" x 0.2" signs though thinner signs may be placed in these slots. At the time of retrieval only 2 door signs were found inside the box which have been designated SCP-1234-1 and SCP-1234-2 both signs show Euclidean properties. The box also contained a single piece of rope attached to a window sucker.
| SCP Designation | Description | Effect |
|---|---|---|
| SCP-1234-1 | A white door sign with a black border. Bold black printed text on SCP-1234-1 reads: "Open" and on the reverse side "Closed" | When the "Open" side is placed on a door either in a locked or unlocked state anybody who views the sign will be able to open the door. If the sign is flipped to show "Closed" the door will appear locked to anybody who views the sign and will be unable to be opened by conventional means. A secondary effect compels the viewer to resist any further attempts to enter the building in any way if the sign shows closed. |
| SCP-1234-2 | A thin blue metal sign with two holes for standard size screws. Has the word "Pull" written vertically, bold and in white along with a drawing of a stick man pulling open a door. | When the sign is screwed to a door anyone viewing the sign will be able to pull the door open to gain entry regardless of the actual way the door is meant to be opened. The door can still be locked and will remain locked unless enough force is used to break the lock or the door. The viewer will be unable to comprehend the idea of attempting to push the door open and if asked will state that it would be pointless as the door says "Pull" |
Testing has shown that the signs themselves are not the origin point of the Euclid properties but rather the box can generate the properties on any sign that is placed inside the box in one of the 12 appropriate slots. Testing has also shown that once a slot has bestowed the Euclid effects on a sign it can then only be used on signs that contain the same text or meaning.
Two signs have been purchased via conventional means and given Euclid properties by foundation researchers to test the effects of SCP-1234
| SCP Designation | Description | Effect |
|---|---|---|
| SCP-1234-3 | A thin blue metal sign matching the description of SCP-1234-2 but with the words "Push" written vertically | Any door regardless of it's placement can be pushed to gain entry. If the door has something behind it blocking movement, such as a wall or other object not connected to the door frame, it will not open. It will also not open if it is locked. The viewer will be unable to comprehend pulling the door. |
| SCP-1234-4 | A Thin red sign with white text stating "No Dogs" | When the sign is attached to a door any attempt to bring any member of the Canine family through the door will result in protest from the animal. The member of the Canine family will use any method available including violence against it's owner to prevent any passage through the door. If successfully forced through the door the animal will attempt to escape whatever room it is in. If no escape is available the animal will enter a panicked state until it is released (Potential uses as a form of containment for SCP's belonging to the Canine family have been submitted to O5) |
Addendum-1:
SCP-1234 was found inside a barber shop after a foundation wire tap picked up a call between Dispatch and an Officer checking on a report that the lights in the shop had been on for over █ months while the shutters were down.
<Begin Log>
Dispatch: Officer ██████ you have been missing for a few hours now is everything ok?
Officer ██████: Hi Karen Can you do me a favour and check the opening times of ███████ Avenue It's been closed for a while now and I need to leave.
Dispatch: Officer ██████ can you repeat that it sounded like you needed the opening times of the street
Officer ██████: Yes please the opening times for ███████ Avenue in ████ theres no opening times on the door
Dispatch: I think theres been some miscommunication. Do you need the opening times of Mr.██████ Barber shop?
Officer ██████: No i'm already inside the shop i need the opening times for Outside. The sign on the door says it's closed but I can't see anything to say what time it opens.
Dispatch: Oh…this is a joke right. You're having me on. Just come back to the station and we can all have a big laugh at how funny it is to waste my time.
Dispatch puts the phone down <End Log>
Closing Statement: [Foundation agents were dispatched to Mr.██████ Barber shop to check the status of Officer ██████ and after a single agent entered the shop and confirmed that the sign said that ███████ Avenue was closed so he couldn't leave a second foundation agent with training regarding cognitohazard's entered and removed the sign while blindfolded. Officer ██████ was dosed with a Class A-Anesthetic and delivered to a foundation plant at the local police station]
Addendum-2:
During a full examination of the premises following the removal of SCP-1234-1 the foundation agents found SCP-1234 along with the body of the owner who had taken his own life using a sharpened shaving blade. A note was found taped to the lid of SCP-1234:
Dad, Stop taking life so literally.
