Doctor Mathews: Hello Agent Marcov. I am Doctor Mathews, how are you doing today?
Agent Marcov: I'm great aside from this crink in my neck. Do you got anything for that?
Doctor Mathews: Yes I do but were not here for that. Are you aware of what happened on your most recent assignment?
Agent Marcov: Doc, I was shipped here in a steel crate then put in quarantine for the last 2 weeks. I can't speak for the others but the bed I was given was comparable to a bag of potatoes.
Doctor Mathews: Do you want some ibuprofen?
Agent Marcov: No.
Doctor Mathews: Well that's all you're going to get.
Agent Marcov: I guess it's better than nothing.
Doctor Mathews: Here are two 800mg ibuprofen. There is water in the mini fridge behind you.
Agent Marcov: Whoa! Do you just carry around those little packets in your pockets?
Doctor Mathews: As a matter of fact I do. It's one of the most common request from agents in the field. Now then, agent do you recall your most recent assignment?
Agent Marcov: Yeah. It was supposed to be pretty cut and dry. As per SCP policy, an agent is to be dispatched when ever possible to shadow exploration of any unknown territories. I was assigned to shadow [Redacted] while they surveyed some land for a potential resort location. One of their drones went missing. An investigation revealed a gravitational anomaly containing roughly 4 square kilometers of land. It was only accessible by the mouth of the anomaly which maintained a constant horizontal position approximately one hundred meters above the ground. It was an absolute fluke that the drone even found the opening. At this point agent Franklin and I requested backup then moved in to cease operational control.
Doctor Mathews: Good. I'm glad you remember that much.
Agent Marcov: Are you implying that I should remember less?
Doctor Mathews: Agent Marcov, I am aware of the details contained in the field reports submitted by agents on site who not affected by SCP-XX03 or SCP-XX04. You are the most senior agent affected by this anomaly and should understand what I am looking for. Five people including you vanished from SCP-XX03 while under electronic surveillance then simply reappeared twenty three minutes later. We don't know where you went, we don't know what you brought back with you, we don't know what affects the artifact had on you or the others, we need to make sure any threats remain contained.
Agent Marcov: As far as I could tell, there are no threats. Just a weird place with red sky's.
Doctor Mathews: Please start from when you discovered SCP-XX03.
Agent Marcov: After obtaining operation control we entered the anomaly and discovered what appeared to be a Mayan temple. Analysis revealed a single chamber located at the top. We followed protocol. Things were going smooth till our remote drone went offline for about 30 seconds. We checked the cameras we setup and the drone was gone. The team freaked out. While rolling the footage back to see what happened the drone reappeared and continued to survey the room as if nothing even happened.
Doctor Mathews: What happened next?
Agent Marcov: The analyst reviewed the footage of the room and figured the totem in the center of the room triggered some sort of field or energy that blocked visible light when removed from its platform. After reviewing the footage on the drone several times they changed that theory, saying the drone physically went somewhere else. When comparing the footage of the platform from before, during, and after picking up the totem they could see visible differences in the degradation of the platform. Both rooms were so dark even with the light from the drone we almost missed it.
Doctor Mathews: That is when you should have called a HQ to have a proper team investigate the anomaly. Why didn't you follow procedure.
Agent Marcov: An agent with operational control over containment of an anomaly does not need to escalate case if it has been determined no immediate threat exist. Plus, I personally called HQ and spoke with [Redacted]. He said SCP-RDS were notified and we could continue remote observation until they arrived. The anomaly wasn't a treat and was still contained so we programmed the drone to hold the totem till its battery fell below ten percent while sending high energy radio pulses through any detected opening every few minutes.
Doctor Mathews: I see, [Redacted] gave you permission. That tidbit was not included in my report. Continue agent Marcov.
Agent Marcov: The drone was gone for a total of three hours and fifty-five minutes. We got back that data and found indications of weather present on the other side. Intense burst of light, wind, and humidity. Organic compounds were detected but no micro organisms were present in samples tested. Air pressure was 105.20 kilo pascals with a composition of nitrogen, oxygen, argon, carbon dioxide, and small amounts of other gases. The percentage of the gases was a little different but the analyst though it meant the drone was on earth or an earth like location.
Doctor Mathews: I can see that it was very exciting for you. But there were a lot of questions that needed to be answered still. Probably the biggest one being the anomaly its self. Given the location of the anomaly I would expect folklore to contain the most clues. Did you conduct any research to speculate on its origin?
Agent Marcov: Of coarse I did, the locals were not aware of the anomaly. I also got an earful from the locals present for the discovery of SCP-XX01 before we ceased control of [Redacted] operation. They were spooked saying were disturbing the domain of an ancient god and we would be punished greatly if we continued to mess with things.
Doctor Mathews: What do you think it is? Did you hear it speak to you in your head?
Agent Marcov: I think it was left here by someone or something and no i'm not crazy.
Doctor Mathews: Just need to dot my t's' and cross my i's. Other agents have reported artifacts speaking to them so it's necessary to ask. What do you mean by someone or something? Was there any evidence to suggest as much?
Agent Marcov: There were ceramic tubes embedded in a couple walls, possible a means of storage. The drone collected samples and we were able to get them dated using Trapped Charge Dating. The samples were a little over 10,000 years old.
